ALP sends renegages to Syria

The problem I've always had with the deposing of Middle Eastern/North African governments is that we have never known what we will be getting that replaces them and it has now been shown without exception that the new governments are worse than the old ones.

I've travelled through Libya when Gaddafi was in power and whilst I won't say he was a saint, he wasn't as bad as the West made him out to be, he was a hell of a lot better than the Saudi's have ever been. Just as with Iran, Egypt and Iraq under Saddam, they would show no mercy to Islamic fundamentalists and actively looked to clean them out of their countries. The West though used these groups as reason for wanting the governments overthrown and now we are paying the price. Getting rid of one iron fisted government when you know that what replaces them will include radical fundamentalists is complete lunacy, but unfortunately the Western world is currently run by a bunch of lunatics and it will take a generation to clean them up.

Just look at what has happened in countries the West has caused an overthrow (or tried to overthrow) the government in recent times:
Iraq - gone from Shiite run government that was only against Sunni groups who were aligned to Saudi Arabia and want Saudi style laws, where other religious minorities openly tolerated (13% population Coptic Christian) with a successful economy and constantly improving standard of living and standard level of corruption ; to a country near the bottom of the standard of living charts worldwide, no religious tolerance of minority religious (Coptic Christians <1%) and a government hell bent on retribution of all those from the former regime, with rampant corruption that is strangling a collapsed economy.
Libya - was a strong growing economy expanding from just oil products, could lay strong claims to the following compared to other African nations, best standard of living, highest education standards and best health system, corruption was low, religiously tolerant of all and provided you didn't complain about the person running the government you were not going to be harassed. Now economy is struggling to rebuild, corruption is rife and infrastructure badly damaged with standard of living having dropped markedly.
Egypt - religiously tolerant progressive and one of the leaders in Africa/Middle East in trying to seek peace agreements between waring nations/ and civil wars, with the rarest of things in Africa/Middle East an independent press. Now problems with religious violence, economy nearing collapse, any dissenting voices silenced. No longer cares about rest of Africa and only staying involved in Palestinian conflict because of necessity.
Ukraine - overthrown democratically elected government because pro-Russia, installed puppet pro-EU government which has never been properly elected and immediately recognised it despite no election being held. Refuse to accept annexation of Crimea (which was Russian anyway prior to donation to Ukraine administration during Soviet era) which was done in an election, like it or not getting over 75% in a vote was a given no matter how the election was held and everyone knows it. Now have civil war in parts of the country and a government that is no interested in providing any assistance to any ethnic Russian areas. Corruption still rife
Syria - pro-Iranian government that whilst religiously tolerant did have issues with Sunni minority and Kurds (but then almost everyone in history has had problems with the Kurds) with a healthy economy. Now racked with civil war involving various groups including religious fundamentalists of the worst kind who have no tolerance for any with differing beliefs of their own, to the point of enslaving them or execution.

So whilst we say we've got rid of these terrible governments and have sent support to do so, the support (if any) we are sending to get rid of what has replaced it which is in almost all cases far worse than what was ousted is much less. So who is really the oppressor of the developing world?
The US govt?? :)

So he can whiteant the Kurds?

We should send him to work with ISIL. They'll be gone inside of 2 years.
Abbot will be free to go over soon enough.

An excellent post.

I've always had difficulty trying to rationalise why the US have done what they did, in collusion with Israel. Destablising the region seems to be the deliberate aim of the right wing US/Israel forces, & indeed Australia as well. Its the only reason I can see for the systematic destruction of the previous regimes in the ME countries in the way they have gone about things.

If its the case that 'United they stand, Divided they fall', then clearly keeping those nations in turmoil will keep them divided & weak. The death, destruction & misery matters not to the US/Israel coalition. Its become clear that Israel is not interested in any sort of two state solution, or any kind of settlement. Might is right seems to be their policy. Also expansion & consolidation of the 'borders' & townships of Israel itself.

Israel is making increasing noises in Europe regards encouraging Jewish people to move to Israel. IMO that is amajor reason for the current situation.

I would appreciate your thoughts on that.

nah, this guy will turn up like Warren Rodwell who is kidnapped in the Philippines and on the front page of Soldier of Fortune

Blackcat : You seem to really have it in for this guy Warren Rodwell. Are you conclusively saying that he was or is a " A SOLDIER OF FORTUNE " ? An unlawful mercenary soldier ?

THE FACTS :

Rodwell was released almost two years ago, and his biography " 472 Days Captive of The Abu Sayyaf - The Survival of Australian Warren Rodwell " by Dr Bob East (independent researcher) was published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing, United Kingdom ( 2015 ). http://www.cambridgescholars.com/472-days-captive-of-the-abu-sayyaf

Of course, you may well ask what would a bunch of professors and academics know compared to your own ever-changing profile face on bigfooty forum.

HERE ARE THE REVIEWS SO FAR :

“In the current international environment when so many aid workers, journalists, business people and travellers risk capture, Bob East’s empathetic and detailed account of Warren Rodwell’s hostage survival is a very timely publication that will attract a wide readership. Those who have read the account of Australian Nigel Brennan’s experience of 15 months in captivity in Somalia will find the story of Rodwell’s ordeal similarly instructive – and inspiring.”

—Richard Gehrmann, Senior Lecturer, School of Arts and Communication, University of Southern Queensland, Australia

“Bob East’s 472 Days Captive of the Abu Sayyaf: The Survival of Australian Warren Rodwell is a well-researched and well-documented—but easy to read—account of this protracted kidnap-for-ransom in the southern Philippines. It is based on East’s exclusive access to Rodwell. I recommend it as an important addition to any strategic analyst’s library.”

—Clive Williams MG, Adjunct Professor, Centre for Policing, Intelligence and Counter Terrorism, Macquarie University

_____________________________

“On 5 December 2011, Warren Rodwell was kidnapped from his adopted home in Ipil, Zamboanga province in the southern Philippines by the notorious Abu Sayyaf Group. Rodwell survived 15 months as a captive – a rare feat given the organisation’s reputation for beheading captives whose ransom is not quickly paid. This is the story of Rodwell’s ordeal, and how he survived against the odds.”

—Dr Damien Kingsbury, Professor of Asian Political and Security Studies, Deakin University, Australia

_____________________________

“Warren Rodwell's story is one of modern day survival. Kidnapped by Islamic extremists while living in the Philippines, Warren survived for 15 months in captivity being moved from location to location. How he maintained his sanity let alone his life is an incredible feat of courage, guts and determination. Warren’s story proves that where there is life there is definitely hope. A true inspiration.”

—David Richardson, Senior Journalist, 7 News Investigations and Features, Australia

did Rodwell go to Syria?

Is that rhetorical, blackcat?

If you possess inside knowledge of clandestine activities by this infidel, then perhaps
in the sake of national security, YOU should promptly pass such intelligence on to any
of the Australian government bodies involved in the multi-agency kidnapping taskforce
set up to assist the efforts by Philippine authorities.

All of these blighters had over 15 months to check Rodwell's background. When released, they shovelled Easter eggs down his throat, and politely escorted him back to Australia without laying any charges. Two years later ... are they still monitoring his movements, his contacts, his connections via telephone and internet?

Right about now Tony Abbot is looking like a human weapon of Mass destruction.
Send him.
It achieves two worthwhile purposes...

Bob East is a quality academic and author.

you should see his wikipedia page HolyBobafett holybobafett

its like, he almost contributed to his own Wikipedia page. It never ends well when you contrive your own wikipedia page, like Hamish McLachlan and Lord Rompingwins, it never ends well. When will these people who do their own wikipedia page, not understand, that you can have you own webpage, just pay an ISP to host it. or whatever acronym they are called, internet service provider.

Bob, some advice. you are struggling with these memes thingies. just leave it to the kids okay? take it as professional advice, for nix.

you dont even know how to play curling. its like, you play curling like Alan Jones plays glory holes in hyde park. #FAIL

crows.jpg Well, gag me with a spoon. Blackcat has returned with a vengeance (three posts in rapid succession) from his hiatus, while someone else responded on his behalf during a rather conspicuous absence. Seems the dear chap didn't catch the double entendre with respect to "nicks". It's British slang, but has nought to do with pocket billiards nor hanging around inner city public conveniences like a drooling stud.

Hamish McLachlan nix.jpg

Champion reference to the younger brother of Gillon McLachlan , Chief Executive Officer of the AFL. Any chance they are Adelaide supporters? :drunk:

St Kilda Gillon
Romping Wins is Geelong

Good to see someone with their nose close to the ground with celebrities.

BTW ... Anyone heard the rumour that Australian kidnap survivor Warren Rodwell has married again BUT this time in Afghanistan? It seems this middle aged dude divorced his Filipino bride after he was released, and now knows the difference between a hijab, niqab and burka. If you have ever been to Afghanistan you would have noticed that the majority of them are light skinned and Persian. Senor Rodwell was quoted in 2013 as saying that he was thinking Caucasian next time round.

WHAT ABOUT THE WHITE GUY?

When will a candlelight vigil be held for former Tamworth man Warren Rodwell? It seems he has indeed been FORGOTTEN.

A government media blackout was enforced during his captivity. The kidnapping victim said he was a 'little bitter' this year that other Australians trapped overseas have obtained considerable attention, including Kalynda Davis, the Bali Nine drug smugglers and journalist Peter Greste. 'I got no attention because I wasn't female and I wasn't a convicted drug smuggler and I wasn't a recognised person in society - just one of these ordinary people.'

ASIO has officially declared (ISIL and Al Qaeda-linked) Abu Sayyaf as a terrorist organisation. A spokeswoman for the Attorney-General's Department said it does not comment on individual cases relating to the Australian Victims of Terrorism Overseas Payment (AVTOP).

This thread is strange.

How wonderful is the affair of the believer, for his affairs are all good, and this applies to no one but the believer. If something good happens to him, he is thankful for it and that is good for him. If something bad happens to him, he bears it with patience and that is good for him.
