Team Mgmt. An early crack at 2017 best 22

Not really at all. He doesn't cause any havoc.

The guys issue is simple... he can't run! He can't get up and down the ground. He's an absolute liability and one game next year will be too many.

I disagree with that. He was pretty good prior to injury last year. However, with Chapman and a few kids also in the side it becomes too much liability all around. However, if Laverde and Langford have built up their tank, McKernan and Daniher also get up and down the ground and the rest of the forward line is resting mids then he'll be fine. If we're relying on him to rack up as many kms as a Gunston type then we're screwed!!

The issue for me is when picking sides is our primary goal to win in 2016 rather than developing a side that will be very competitive in 2-3 years time? If it is the former then he'll play. It just means we stifle the development of some players and also potentially have them looking elsewhere for opportunity.

I hope we don't follow Mr Miyagi's philosophy and walk in the middle of the road. Rotating Cooney and fringe players like Howlet along with the youth. That way the youth get AFL games into them but with a more protective loads and we keep those guys in touch with the AFL but also contributing to a strong VFL side.

Wanted to have a crack at this
Baguley Hurley Francis*
Hibberd Hooker Gleeson**
Colyer Heppell Goddard
Zaharakis Mckernan Cooney
Ambrose*** Daniher Edwards
Leuenberger Watson Zerrett

Myers, Hocking, Stanton Laverde

Emg: Langford Howlett Fantasia.

If Melbourne pinch Francis, i expect Gwilt to be our 3rd tall.
I expect Gleeson to play half back over Fantasia.
As much as it would frustrate me, wouldn't be surprised if Ambrose is in our best 22.

Unsure if Bellchambers will be fit for round 1.
Back 6 looking fabulous if we're able to snap up Francis.

Baguley Hooker Hibberd
Myers Hurley Goddard
Colyer Watson Parish
Laverde Ambrose Zaharakis
Z Merrett J.Daniher Francis

Leunberger Heppell Bird

Hocking O.Fantasia Gleeson

Sub. Langford Stanton or Howlett to rotate but only 3 who should be subs all year maybe Parrish and Fantasia as well

Two best kicks in team go to half back flanks , Gleeson to be used through this role and Myers and Goddard can push into midfield also allowing Hibberd to move from bp to HB and option of Francis to play back either bp or HB.

Bag hurls and hooker are locks.

Colyer on wing due to speed a breaking lines between HB hf. Play parish all year on wing let him go.
Jobe and z Merrett to switch roles between deep forward roles through mid as well

Midfield looks one paced but with players like Colyer Fantasia Zaharakis parish laverde there is enough around.

Thoughts........

Sorry what? That seems a pretty damn good reason to follow the middle road?

Can't really understand how so many think that an engine room of Watson, Heppell, Myers, Hocking, Stanton, Goddard all at once has any chance at working.
A large part of our decline this year was the void left by Watson, Myers and Hocking on the inside, but for gods sake we need some balance in the middle.
The rest of the comp will run rings around us if that's what we go with.
Zerrett, Laverde, Colyer, Fantasia, Langford should be regularly running through the middle alongside our bigger stronger guys.

My Miyagi's philosophy was "You walk on right side of road, you OK. You walk on left side of road, you OK. You walk in middle of road, you squash like a grape."

Sorry if it wasn't clearly written.

No speed on the inside does hurt us. However, it's not hard to set up like a rugby side. Have a bunch of inside mids basically play as rugby forwards and then have outside mids and flankers set up like backs/mids. Having said that Stanton's job is not on the inside and we won't have all of them in there all the time. I'm guessing Goddard will be spending less and less time in there also.

Good points. I anticipate we'll see more of Jobe in the forward line and Goddard moving between the flanks. But we can't settle for one paced guys feeding it out to more one paced guys

Ah the myth that we are too slow!... Just keeps on coming around doesn't it? At full strength we have a balanced side in terms of pace. The issue was further put to rest this year with the progression made by Edwards, Fantasia and Laverde, who all look capable of providing depth for Colyer, Cooney and Z Merret.
What i can't understand is how many people think these younger guys are going to walk into the side this year? I'd want most of those guys to be in the VFL doing what Colyer did two years ago when he honed his defensive game. To knock out senior proven players who are in decent form, they need to have a full AFL skill set and i don't think we saw that from them in 2015.

I'd rather they worked on pace and pace alone.

Who cares about skills when you are fast.

Morgan and Francis are well built, look ready made, good defenders, add pace, good decision makers and good kicking skills.

I think a fresh year with natural improvement added again and also post supplements saga will see us easily make the 8. Then the bonus is what we get with the 2 new high end draft picks, 2 very good vfl players and quality ruckman and seasoned clearance specialist.

Surely our depth is comparable to the grand finalists this year. Now just a question if we can match their top 6 talent.

Biggest upside will be when the saga is finally over.

This is going to be very interesting.

Some senior players need to work really hard next year to be playing.

I'm talking Gwilt, Cooney, Dempsey, Bellchambers and even Zaharakis. No slacking out or someone else will replace ya.

People selecting the best 22 players need to take a look at the set up of the line up.

People selecting kids need to take a look at themselves

Depends on whether you are picking a best 22 for the beginning or end of the season. In recent years both Heppell and Merrett have established themselves as safely within the best 22 by seasons end.
