This thread is more embarrassing than the media coverage it alludes to.

How so? It's important that we address these issues and not just let them post these bullshit articles. I think every football fans should be aware of all this bad publicity. That way we can respond back to them and tell them that we're sick of this s**t. It's really pathetic. I swear that Australia is the only country in the world that doesn't embrace the world game.

Just like this morning when Sunrise reported the flare that hit the linesman in the EPL. I would be fine with it as long as they bother to at least show highlights of the game as well as the incident, but they purposely just show that incident as if the game was irrelevant. There's also the other times they have to always show those lower league Sudan/Egypt/Cyprus/Lebanon etc.. league incident that makes you wonder where they search to find these videos.

Did anyone else watch 9 News Adelaide on Saturday??
The report for The United v Victory game was pathetic.
Warren Tredrea was reading out the report and there were so many errors.

First he called Cirio, "Therio". Then he said that Jironimo scored in the 2nd half before Half time. WHAT??

The worst though was when they showed footage of fans walking out of the stadium and the voice over was "Thankfully outside the ground there was no sign of ugly clashes that marred previous United v Victory games. The heavy police presence keeping the rival fans in check".

WHY THE **** do they need to mention that. If there was no trouble, why do they have to mention that???

Because "Sokkah" is foreign and unAustralian and inferior to the good Aussie larrikin AFL culture.

Well, technically he's correct here. The correct spanish pronunciation for Cirio is "Thirio".

But this was low

More pointless made up rubbish journalism, getting real pissed at troll attempts at the game like this article.

Sweet night turns sour as Reds and Victory fans go feral at Coopers Stadium

Victory fans celebrate as Melbourne equalises in the match against Adelaide United. Source: News Limited

IT'S all fun and games until someone gets hurt.

That's a line that many of my high school teachers spruiked to me many years ago and it seems apt in describing the fierce club rivalry between Melbourne and Adelaide on Friday night.

Like high school, it was juvenile, often hilarious but it reached a point when Melbourne struck the back of the net for a second time when the games turned far more serious.

I was perched in no man's land - between the two side's fans.

Throughout the match it was the regular taunting you would see at any reserves football match but when Adelaide lost its lead, its fans lost their cool.

After hurling abuse at the Melbourne crowd with its 2-0 lead in the first half, when Melbourne struck two quick goals in the second, Adelaide fans were dumbfounded,

The laddish singalongs soon turned to disgust and hellish profanities when projectiles began landing in the Melbourne Victory crowd.

Bottles of water, plastic handclappers flew overhead but it was the sound of coins hitting chairs when things became all too serious.

After the game the fans congregated out the front of the venue but with more than 70 police at hand on bikes, horses and on foot, there wasn't much room for the tomfoolery we have seen in the past.

The simple fact is there were people looking for fights.

They said it to my face - disgusted that the Melbourne fans were almost given a police escort from the ground.

It's mob mentality. Strength in numbers with hundred's of young men flexing their muscles but I've seen worse at Adelaide home games with countless fights, flares and bottle throwing.

At the end of the night one young fan was quick to approach me upon realising I was with the media.

"If you think this is bad - you should see what happens when travel to Melbourne," he said.

If that's the case, there's no danger of me cheering along the Reds in Melbourne in the coming months.

Won't provide a link search google for proof.
The Journalist that wrote this tweeted this:
"Glad everyone enjoyed my opinion piece on the soccer'.
What a ******* tosser!
He also posted a pic of a Victory supporter being ejected. He must really hate SOKKAH!!

Also just to add that he's a music journalist and he has no business writing about football. You can tell that he's just making this s**t up.

WSW fans are the biggest w***ers in the A-league. "Who we sing for?? We sing for ourselves!" That's what they should be chanting because if they really cared for their team then they would actually watch the game instead of going to games and boosting your ego by trying to act like some tough European hooligans! * OFFFFF! The Poznan (or whatever it's called) isn't cool, it's stupid. Great way to respect your team by turning your back to them at the most important time of a game.

This is legit the first time that I'm not angry that the media have reported this, because this time it's a legit story! The footage of them both throwing stuff at each other is disgusting.

To say that this crap doesn't happen at other games though is absolute crap. Football is still a safer family environment than both Cricket and AFL! Some comments on the Herald Sun article are laughable!!

Totally agree with everything in this post. Behave appropriately and no one will have any excuse to have a go at you and tarnish the whole sport. It really isn't that hard.

Unfortunately, the core of the wsw support are comprised of croats from sydney united, some of the most volatile and nasty elements sourced from one of the world's most violent and nasty places. Such behaviour is the norm and natural for these people.

The WSW fan base is largely comprised of Croats who are widely known for being violent! I've also noticed that quite a few Arabs support WSW as well. While not trying to sound racist, Arabs in Western Sydney are known to be a violent bunch. Some of these people that I see in the WSW supporters group when the camera is on them, don't even look like they're interested in the game, they're just there to look 'cool' with their ******* tops off and everything. I used to think very highly of the WSW supporters group but not anymore. They're just a bunch of thugs! Someone poster a photo on the 442 forum of a WSW in a black ski mask!! WTF!! They're making football look like a thug sport, which clearly it is not.

Since I'm of Greek heritage and follow Panathinaikos, I follow a lot of Greek football and trust me, we don't want to see the crowd behavior at Greek league games happen here. Everything from flare throwing, to Molotov cocktails, Petrol bombs, knifes etc.. is seen at weekly Greek league games. At Panathinaikos v Olympiakos games, players don't want to take corners in fear that the opposition fans will throw things at them. Things are so bad over in Greece that Opposition fans aren't allowed to be in the stadiums for Panathinaikos vs Olympiakos games (So say it's a Panathinaikos game, Olympiakos fans aren't allowed in the stadium and vice versa). We don't want anything like that happening here, but when I was hearing explosion during the MV vs WSW game, it reminded me exactly of the explosions during Greek League matches. Not a very good sound to hear during a football match.

I still stand by my point though that this is just a minority here in Australia. It's still safer than other sporting events in Australia. In saying that though, something has to be done to prevent future incidents. If I was in charge of the FFA I would impose stadium bans. Not just to the individuals but denying entry to every supporter of that club. It seems harsh to those not involved but in the long run would be the best option in stopping this crap.

I'll quote some of the user comments from the Herald sun article on the WSW-MV brawl:

The final straw for my family attending soccer games at AAMI Park, off to the shop to buy AFL gear

Cya, don't let the door hit you on the way out

To assume violence only happens at football matches is ridiculous. I have seen violence at almost every single sporting code in this country. I've been stuck on a train in the middle of stations while waiting for police to arrive while rival afl fans belted the suit case out of each other including the elderly. I have footage to back this up! Cricket, nrl, tennis ect. .. There is a minority of trouble makers no matter the sport. Ban the minority, increase the fines. But don't say it's only a "world game" problem, because that is an absolute lie.
:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Let's be blunt. This is LESS about club rivalry and far more about racial hatred between young men who are fed hatreds by their families. raised to hate. Sadly, soccer suffers too
:thumbsu:

it is frustrating that this season the crowds at the soccer have been great and that a group of thugs from Sydney not interested in the game can cause such an affect. It was clear to all in the stadium who they were and the A-league should not allow them at any matches ever again.
:thumbsu:

So 2 individuals have been banned...........better that the A-league is banned! Soccer will never be a real Australian sport. Just as well we invented our own Australian Football.

So what does this person classify as a real AUSTRALIAN SPORT????

Strangest game on earth. Static game with minimal fitness required. There's too many players on that tiny field to ever score. This game will always brew this type of discontent with un-Australian people.

It's UN-AUSTRALIAN. An UN-AUSTRALIAN sport like soccer will never be accepted in Australia. UN-AUSTRALIANNNN!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Seriously though, The term UN-Australian has to be the most frustrating term ever. Seriously what exactly is UN-Australian??

I dont know whats worse, the over zealous hatred NRL media (AFL down south) or the supposed "fans" of football (or soccer whatever) defending these euro thug wannabes.
What happened was disgusting and in no way defend-able. These people should be booted from the game permanently. I love the Sky Blues. Always have (from their beginning) always will.
But how can you defend fan violence, Flares (incl smokers and bangers) and general non social behavior. All of the things ive mentioned are illegal. Its not like the FFA are just saying no for the hell of it. They are illegal via the federal and state courts.
Yes the media beat it up, but we keep giving it to them on a platter. We arent that stupid surely.

I really do hope we see an end to it. I love my sport and want the A-League to prosper (just like the AFL, cricket etc)

Personally think its unaustralian not to follow it. We are a sports nation. Its the biggest sport in the world... The more sport the better I say.

With teams like WSW how can you say it is a safer sporting event than going to the AFL, cricket or basketball?

There is more violence and aggressive behaviour at a soccer game than an AFL and if your don't think so you are truly ignorant. When was the last time AFL supporters needed to be segregated in fear of violence? Or the last time two AFL teams supporters meet up in the middle f the city and went on a wild brawl?

FWIW I regularly attend MV matches and enjoy the soccer immensely, however it can definitely feel like a more hostile environment at times. Yes AFL has its moments with aggressive dheads in the crowd, but for some reason at soccer games it becomes a mob mentality with some of these idiots and to me that always seems a lot more aggressive and intimidating

Spot on. I've also been to hundreds of AFL games over the years and can't remember a single time when an entire section of the crowd was chanting for the opposition club to '**** off back to ...' which is pretty much along the lines of one of my club's active supporter chants ('We are Melbourne, we are the best, we are Melbourne, **** all the rest. **** 'em all, **** 'em all'...very witty stuff). It doesn't especially bother me now, but would I take any future kids to the same environment, where such aggression and segregation of supporters is clearly condoned, if not encouraged? I honestly don't know.

It's a completely different mentality to going to an AFL game, where part of the fun is meeting up before the game with your mates who support other teams and their mates, whom you may not even know, and engaging in some good-natured banter and a couple of drinks before the game.
