Well if anything all this proves is the measures to "even out" the league have completely and utterly failed in doing that.
The competition is more uneven now than at any time I can remember. There was a time when bottom rung teams would quite often upset top teams, yet nowadays, you might see this happening a couple of times a year, at best, & it will more than likely be in the early stages of the season.

The AFL have stood by & watched the likes of Hawthorn & Sydney stockpile experienced talent, while at the same time compromising the draft to try & ensure the expansion teams don't experience the same sort of failure that was seen in the early days of the Brisbane Bears & Fremantle. Added to this is the ridiculous Academy concept which prevents the majority of teams from having access to some of the best available talent. A draft system can only work if all the available talent is available equally to all 18 teams (and don't get me started on free agency).
