When do they decide whether the hearings are public or not?

I think the tribunal will rule on that next week but I'm betting they will make the hearings closed.

If for no other reason than to protect the players who have not been proven guilty of anything at this stage. I would think they would lean towards giving them a measure of protection as the public's right to know can be satisfied after the hearing but the players could potentially suffer loss of reputation if the were named prior to any determination

We'll only get five minutes into the first quarter and they'll adjourn for Xmas drinks.

Anyone know what date are they reconvening in the New Year?
David Jones Statement - Chairman of AFL Anti-Doping Tribunal
December 1, 2014 3:16 PM
The Australian Football League Anti-Doping Tribunal held a directions hearing today relating to proposed hearings in the cases of past and present Essendon Football Club players and a former employee of the Essendon FC who have been issued with Infraction Notices.

The directions hearing was productive and was able to resolve pre-hearing matters.

A further directions hearing will be held on Monday December 8, 2014, to review the progress in preparation.

It is anticipated that the ruling on whether the hearing should be held in-camera or be open to media will be finalised and released by that date.

The hearing of the proceedings was confirmed to commence on December 15, 2014, to continue for a number of days prior to Christmas and then resume on January 12, 2015. A suitable venue for the hearing is being finalised.

The AFL Anti-Doping Tribunal panel for these cases consists of Chairman Mr David Jones, a former County Court Judge, Mr John Nixon, a former County Court Judge with extensive experience in sports tribunals, and Mr Wayne Henwood, a barrister and former VFL player.

I missed by a day, the link above, final directions hearing on the 8th.

Love the chest pumping, each side more ready than the other for the biff.

Great theatre.

Utterly fake.

But great.
I disagree, ASADA obviously prefer to say nothing, but they've been given no choice.
We've had everyone from Rohan Connolly to Shane Carter drumming home the message that ASADA is incompetent, their case is falling apart, they are fabricating evidence etc. all rising to a crescendo in the past week.
ASADA had to get on the front foot and fill the airspace. Have done it calmly and professionally too, lot of respect for these guys.
