I reckon they'll let him see out the series.would it hurt to tap clarke on the shoulder and advise its best for his health that he step aside and retire?

A selectors masterstroke in dropping Watson!
Could really use his help right now.
I understand. There's slim pickings. I actually wouldn't do anything because I don't think anything will be an improvement. We've dropped Watson so he needs to remain dropped for this series at least. Voges has been very disappointing; however, he was given a role for this series and he should be given the chance to see it through. If Shaun Marsh was a good player waiting I'd probably feel differently, but he's only been a serviceable domestic player for a long time; he's no star. Our soft underbelly has just been exposed by Smith not scoring runs.I really don't know what else to do.
So we drop Voges for Marsh? No one is exactly banging the door down are they, remembering Marsh averages 36 in Test cricket and 39 in FC cricket. What was the point in blooding Burns, only to play a 35-year-old?
Can't see that achieving much tbh
Extremely disappointed in Voges considering his experience in County cricket. Will get dropped
People need to show Finn a little more respect.
He was young the last few Ashes series and people are quick to forget how bad Johnson was a few years ago when he was banished to first class cricket.
Fast bowlers can actually improve you know.
He's got pace, he's got great bounce and he actually bowled a consistent line all day, unlike Starc.
Shouldn't have been there in the first place.
Who are they to tell him what's good for his body.would it hurt to tap clarke on the shoulder and advise its best for his health that he step aside and retire?
I agree . He's got some serious tools at his disposal too. Quickish with bounce and a bit of seam will get a lot of players out at test level. He fell apart a bit when he had to change his delivery because he kept knocking the stumps over with his hand. It's taken him a fair while to get his game back.Finn: 24 tests, 97 wickets @ 28.13. These are NOT the stats of a spud.
There lies your first problem. A mouthpiece for those with little of worth to say.Calls for Watson or Haddin to come into the side are seriously misguided. I've seen people on twitter say we should bring Haddin in for the next test as a specialist batsmen .
Who are they to tell him what's good for his body.
Ever the problem with some Australian cricket fans - looking for a scapegoat after losing.
Forcibly retiring a captain mid-Ashes series (to bring in who, exactly?) would be a national embarrassment.
We're poor right now because most of our guys are out of form.
England are playing well because they're in form.
See the correlation between Lehmann out coaching Flower by man managing, and then Bayliss out coaching Lehmann by man managing. Such is the cycle. We're a better side, but we're out of form.
That might not be a bad move.Getting S Marsh to 4 and Clarke back to 5 may be worth a try. It shouldn't make so much difference but the facts are that Clarke performs so much better at 5
My player rankings
Root 6/10 - went on to make solid fifty, which is a good return on this pitch
Bairstow 2/10 - brute of a delivery from Johnson that would get most batsmen
Stokes 4/10 - got same sort of deliver as Bairstow, bowled well and tight in his two spells.
Butler
Moeen Ali 8/10 - At 7/190 Australia was well and truly back in the game fast forward an hour and momentum is back with England and Australia are frustrated
Broad 7/10 - showed again that his batting is at a bowling allrounder level, bowled well again to add.
Finn 9/10 - we've heard before how good he is going to be and now we've actually seen why for the first time as he destroyed us pretty much single-handedly.
Anderson 6/10 - kept his bowling tight as usual until injured. Question now is how bad it really is, personally think it is the series over.
Australia
Warner 7/10 - Root and Ali showed there are only two ways to bat on this pitch, cautious and straight or hit out. Warner paid attention which is more than I can say for most of the team rest.
Rogers 2/10 - played down the wrong line.
Smith 2/10 - what was that shot, terrible choice especially from someone supposed to be best in the world.
Clarke 2/10 - dreadfully out of form, but will though say in his defence it was a good ball and good catch to get him.
Voges 0/10 - had his bat in no-man's land like the first inning and like the first innings got an edge. Time to go.
Marsh 1/10 - played all around it.
Nevill 6/10 - someone else who is batting properly for the conditions, if he and Starc can stay in we might have a half chance if England collapse.
Johnson 5/10 - his first over was brilliant, two brutes that got Bairstow and Stokes, then went completely missing. Really only knows one way to bat and when tied down for a while will always try and hit out, but he is here to bowl not bat.
Starc 5/10 - just kept bowling the wrong length.
Hazelwood 5/10 - also bowled the wrong length way to often. Our bowlers need to sit down and look at the line and length England are bowling and learn
Lyon 6/10 - easily pick of the bowlers, just needs to bowl in one over spells maybe.
That might not be a bad move.
We need to do something with him.
As Ian Healy correctly said last night. White ball cricket is different to red ball. Batsmen dictate the way a bowler plays. If they are attacking you fire in more yorkers. If they are defending you throw in more enticing balls up and it happens a lot quicker than test match cricket. Starc is like the Warner of bowling. Doesn't have the temperament to play tests. He's all over the shop and doesn't know what is coming out of his hand, but unlike Johnson who is the same, doesn't have the fire spitting short ball.We all know Starc can bowl 140-150km/hr and deadly accurate with a swinging ball. We saw it all way through the world cup. We've seen this rubbish time and time again from him in test matches. Warney called him out and rightfully so and he responded last summer. It's hard to watch him bowl 140km/hr all over the place. Injuries or not he needs to go out there and have a go and really push through his spells.
He really doesn't look right. So maybe his foot injury is troubling him more than we know. Its hard to reconcile him as the same bowler as the world cup.
Not sure if recalling Siddle is the answer either. He's only been a medium pacer for the last couple of years, and doesn't do enough with the ball at that pace
