All this "green top" rubbish, the ball did a little bit, sure, as it should first session of a Test match, but we had nobody (other than Rogers) who was willing to dig in during the tough period and reap the rewards of a great batting deck. Our top order is fragile at best, and shithouse the rest of the time. Anderson bowled well, but the ball was hardly hooping around and jagging off the pitch. Serious flaws in the technique of our batsmen, hard hands and fishing outside off. Warner's eyes well outside the line of the ball, Smith back and across prodding at a full ball wide of off, Voges fishing, Marsh doing his best Shane Watson impersonation and driving hard at a wide ball first up...

We bowled under basically the same conditions, and bowled poorly. Didn't make them play, and they could leave the ball alone outside off. Hats off to the English bowlers, performed very well yesterday. Our batting lineup is Buck and Smith, and when Buck goes at the end of the series, we are in all sorts.

Ah ashes in England. When it's overcast and rain delayed when we're batting and a batsmans paradise when England come to bat.

Rogers was great but he still played and missed a heap of times and skewed balls just wide of gully. Could have been out at any stage. No one looked comfortable.

It was a stupid decision to bat. We could have got through the most difficult period with some grit and luck but unfortunately didn't have any of either.

Going to be a tough day here. Ball no longer new, pitch will be flatter, weather better. Could get ugly unless Nathan Lyon has a good day.

Some captains live by the mantra bat first at all costs. Wouldnt surprise me if Clarke has decided to captain that way.
