Reckon you've missed a good one in One More Time by Diesel.
dare say I have missed heaps. Had to cut it down to ten. Thought I'd put some from left field in there to accommodate a wide variety of tastes.

That Kevin Bloody Wilson song is actually pretty smart. Comedy songs don't get the serious praise they should

The Lucksmiths were great raconteurs. They were a great Australian band. They liked singing about the sunshine and the rain and geography; mostly the small things, but suburbs too. Everything that's important happens in the pub. Beautiful stuff

Good Friday and I’m miles away
And missing you already
From a backyard in Balmain
To the post office and back again
I bought a postcard
I’m getting close
But I haven’t got around to it yet
I know I said I’d write
And maybe I might

You know I’m thinking of you
In the bookstore, in the laundromat
Guess how much I love you
Much more, more than that
More than that

Better Saturday
It’s been that way since I spoke to you this morning
From a pay-phone in a pub
Here’s the rock’n’roll and there’s the rub
And when I spoke to you
You said ‘I’ll see you soon’
But I won’t see you for ages
And your voice sounded so small
The loneliness of the long distance phone call

You know I’m thinking of you
In the bookstore, in the laundromat
Guess how much I love you
Much more, more than that
Guess how much I love you
More than that

Here’s me
Here’s you
Draw a line between the two
This is cartography for beginners
On a map the gap’s three fingers
But it’s more than that
It’s more than that

This song reminds me of my first end of summer in Melbourne and my first winter. It reminds me of nice suburbs and going for a stroll, waiting for a reply from her or wondering how long is long enough to look cool between texts. This isn't just a good song about liking someone, it's a good song – the "under where your underwear" line is amazing, you have to listen to it a few times to make sure he's actually saying something. But he does. I like everything about the imagery here. But more than anything, I like how this song always seems to make me think he's more romantic than the lass, which I think hits every bloke every now and often. I don't know, this is just a very special song... it makes me so glad to be young and Australian in a climate where that seems insane

You can't keep a secret
But you keep a diary anyway
And you get away with murder
Because you've got a way with words
Yeah, and I know where you keep it:
Under where your underwear is meant to be
But usually it's all over the floor
I can't see the carpet anymore

If you arose by any other name
You'd smell as sweet
And you'd look just the same

I could never understand you
Hating music to hold hands to
Sometimes something you can dance to
Is the last thing that you need
Yeah, and squandering a Sunday
On a 499-piece jigsaw puzzle
Doesn't trouble me one little bit
One little bit!

I feel like going visiting this evening
Across the rooftops of North Carlton
While the suburb is asleep
My friends live in renovators' dreams
It's as euphemistic as it seems

However, my favourite is probably this Triffids song. The only thing that shows how good girls can be is talking about how good a girl used to be. The lyrics about being on the other side of the world, the sentimentality of what she touched, and the idea of going out – I always loved songs that use the idea of "going out tonight" (it's a post-punk staple!) because it seems to deflect from the issues of your life and give you some optimism... even if it's just for the night. I always love thinking about why people drink; how many people at this club tonight are just lonely? How many people at this club want to be with someone, not at this club tonight?

I knew him as a gentle young man
I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes
And years before his time

Surrounded himsef with shiny things
First night tickets, ermine, pearls upon a string
And disappeared in all the pestilence
That sudden pleasure brings

He never asks after her anymore
He made a point of losing her address
And every trinket that she ever touched
He keeps locked away
And just burns up in the furnace of his chest

Well I spoke to a man who says he's done it all
And the only thing that pleases or excites him now
Is hurting, hurting then hurting some more
There's someone I want to forget tonight
Don't you want to forget someone too?
I left him, and I can leave you too

Baby let's go out tonight
It will all turn out all right I'm sure
Don't want to drink at home again tonight
So let's go out
Let's go out tonight
It's getting dark earlier now
But where you are it's just getting light
Where you are it will just be getting light

I think that anyone who had a girlfriend at the time 1927 released this song will always remember them because of it.
I was going out with a girl, only lasted 4 months but this song came out and it became "our" song.
25 years later, still think of it as our song but haven't seen that girl since we broke up.
