their is not as many specialists double players in the womens side of the draw, hence not as many good volley players. that is my guess anyway.

that is due to the fact that a lot of women double up in singles and doubles, so the depth just isnt their throughout the year.

there used to be some good women's double teams in the past
eg. mary jo fernandez and gigi fernandez
Lisa Raymond

but nowadays most women dont play at the net, so weak volley players

You could watch Hingis play for ages. She is so bloody smart on a tennis court and has the skills to match her tennis brain.

Shows up every single woman in the singles at the net. She has 'feel' on her volleys and you rarely can teach that.

true, most couldnt volley to save themselves nowadays. but the mens game has gone the same way. their is still some good(not up to hingis or navratilova skill, but capable) players at the volley still in singles. Mladenovic and Vinci are very good doubles players. i liked Mladenovic volley skills when i saw she play Gavrilova. sure, she has other aspects to her game, but it was refreshing to see someone capable of not just using the volley as a put away shot.

If only power didn't become a deciding factor in women's tennis, she could have won more grand slam titles and not retire early.
Agreed. It's not just Hingis either; those classy types have pretty much been forced to develop into defensive grinders in order to compete with the power game. You can't argue with the results/accomplishments of the likes of the Williams sisters but it's a massive shame that the Hingis "type" has been lost as a result.

These things go in a cycle though so I'm hopeful we'll start to see the women's game transition again soon.

Why I enjoy watching radwanska and kerber, they use angles and get the opponent second guessing the next shot.

Raonic impressed me in Brisbane as well, he was clinical. Has continued that form here and I've seen him play twice this year and against robredo he was fantastic.

The next level though against Murray, will be a very interesting match.

Interesting match simply because this is the ultimate test for Raonic. I think he has a shot, will have to serve very well and obviously try (as hard as he can) to not let Murray in a rally.

Holy s**t incredible depth in the rallies after 5 1/2 hours. Just insane.
It has to be Djokovic's greatest ever win I think. What he was able to overcome in this match (particularly in the fifth) and still pull off the shots he did...just obscene. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the fifth, and when I wasn't I was standing on top of the couch screaming at the TV. Would have been phenomenal to be there.

If I could have been at one match in my life that I watched on to, this would be right up there on the list. Incredible. I was tense just watching that small replay then.

I watched the two teams heading to the court last night for the ladies doubles. Goergas & Pliskova were in front & I couldn't see Hingis & Mirza until they reached the court. They were just towered over. Even at 35, Hingis just gave a lesson in doubles tennis.
