Peter Lalor just tweeted that ISIS shot an Italian tourist in Bangladesh on Monday night, and that he thinks there's no chance the tour goes ahead.

Waleed Aly on The Project a few days ago was saying that Dhaka is pretty much a no-go zone.

Cricket Australia's security delegation is on its way home from Dhaka, with no decision yet on the postponed two-Test tour of Bangladesh.

CA's Head of Security Sean Carroll, Australian team manager Gavin Dovey and team security manager Frank Dimasi had spent Monday in high-level talks with Bangladesh's top security and intelligence authorities.

They will brief Australia's Test players and CA officials on their return to Melbourne. A CA spokesperson said there was currently "no change to our position on the matter".

"Following yesterday's meetings, our Head of Security, team manager and team security manager are on their way home from Bangladesh for further meetings with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and to brief our Board, Management and players on the situation."

DHAKA, Bangladesh — The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the shooting death of an Italian aid worker in this city’s diplomatic quarter. If the claim is verified, the killing on Monday night will have been the Islamic State’s first attack in Bangladesh, a country that has been grappling this year with a series of attacks on bloggers who have written critically of Islam.

The aid worker, Cesare Tavella, 50, was shot about 6:15 p.m. as he was jogging. The police said he appeared to have been ambushed by three men who had pulled to the side of the road on a motorcycle. The men fired at Mr. Tavella at least three times before fleeing on the bike.

“We think it was a preplanned killing,” said Mohammad Abdul Ahad, a police official in Dhaka, the Bangladeshi capital.

According to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors radical Islamic websites, the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, issued a statement later Monday claiming that a “security detachment” had tracked Mr. Tavella through the streets of Dhaka and then killed him using “silenced weapons.”

No arrests had been made, and police officials cautioned that they could not immediately confirm that the Islamic State was behind the shooting.

“We have seen news about this claim, but we will have to examine how authentic this claim is,” Muntashirul Islam, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said.

According to police officials, Mr. Tavella came to Bangladesh in May to work in Dhaka as a project manager for ICCO Cooperation, a nongovernmental organization based in the Netherlands that works to eradicate poverty throughout South Asia. Mr. Tavella directed a project called Profitable Opportunities for Food Security, which offers business training to small farmers. In a statement, ICCO Cooperation called him a hard-working professional “committed to help the people of Bangladesh.”

On Friday, Australia’s Foreign Ministry announced that it had “reliable information to suggest that militants may be planning to target Australian interests in Bangladesh.” This prompted Australia’s cricket team to postpone a trip to the country. And on Monday, hours before Mr. Tavella’s death, the British government advised its officials in Bangladesh “to limit attendance at events where Westerners may gather.”

After the shooting, the United States Embassy in Dhaka ordered its employees to “shelter in place” for several hours and to otherwise avoid “large gatherings in Bangladesh.” It urged precautions for American citizens in the nation.

The American International School in Dhaka was closed Tuesday, and security was tightened in the diplomatic quarter.

For the Bangladeshi authorities, Mr. Tavella’s death raises the possibility that both the Islamic State and Al Qaeda are active in Bangladesh. In July, the security forces arrested the chief of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent, which has said it killed Bangladeshi bloggers critical of religious extremism.

They've been told to return to the squad, no idea what will happen as a result. Ideas being thrown around over in the thread, but you'd presume we'd get an announcement on what's happening with the teams etc as soon as the call of the tour has been made/announced.

I suspect CA will claim they lived up to their deal to jointly take control of the game along with BCCI and ECB, and they will go back to ignoring Bangladesh for the next ten years.

Bangladesh make final appeal as Cricket Australia announcement looms

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has made one final attempt to convince Australia to continue with what now appears to be an unlikely two-Test tour.

Cricket Australia (CA) is expected to announce the series, slated tostart on Saturday with a tour game, will be cancelled in the wake of threats of militant attacks.

In a statement released earlier this morning (AEST), Nazmul Hassan, the president of the BCB, revealed an unprecedented level of security for a touring nation would be supplied.

"We have left no stone unturned in providing assurance regarding security for the Australian team," Hassan said.

"The Bangladesh Government has committed additional security on top of the substantial and elaborate arrangements in the BCB's standard Security Plan for international cricket.

"For the team (Australia) the level has been confirmed as VVIP which is equivalent to security accorded to Head of States and is unprecedented for any international side.

"We are still hopeful that a fresh date for arrival of its team will be declared by CA and we will see some exciting cricket on the ground soon.

"It is worth mentioning that during the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014, when the risk which was assessed by Australia was of a higher level to what is at present.

"Safety and security was successfully provided to 24 men's and women's teams including the Australian men's and women's squads as well as to officials and guests who arrived for the event."

We shouldn't have to. Not our fault that the country is deemed unsafe.

It's not the BCB's fault either.

As one of the ten test boards, and more importantly one of the big 3 running international cricket, we have a moral duty to help grow the game and look after the smaller nations.

BCB could play at a neutral venue though, which may not be a bad thing in the future if this isn't just a one off. I hope Bangladesh fix it, we don't need tours being cancelled.

South Africa and SL are good too. Not terribly fussed about the other tours personally, although I will watch it as I love cricket
