I reckon anyone lacking kicking skills is definitely at risk of losing there spot. I wouldn't say curnows spot is safe now we have a guy like boekhorst being a mature age should be ready to go, tutt also possibility to start.
"Me fix it" Everitt seems capable to tag players and be effective with the ball as well
Also trying to fit these young big body mids into the team will be interesting.

I think well be very competitive with Richmond come round 1

Even though Curnow's skills aren't elite. His work as a tagger clearly is. One gun tagger who runs all day is a valuable commodity. His spot is safe.

Boekhorst and Whiley will slot straight in. Graham just needs an opportunity.

Some say Cripps has the makings of a player...

My general point was I don't think the altering of the game plan with minimal personnel change is suddenly going to take us from the lowest amount of possessions per game to anything much higher.

I'm not expecting Whiley, Cripps, Boekhorst, Graham, Tutt to all start game 1 but if we go into next season with basically the same 22, we shouldn't expect much to change.

I think you are wrong, its all about the game plan, we could play the stupid keping off that Melbourne play just so we arent the last on the disposal ladder.

We will get more out of Murphy this year I have no doubt and I reckon clubs will now send there number 1 tagger to Bryce so should free up Murph a bit, also will have more players rotating through the guts this year.

Any chance Tutt gets a starting gig? And with Kruezer being groomed as a forward, would Hendo now go back?

Can't see Hendo, Kruezer, casboult and Jones fitting into our forwardline.

Tutt would be a very good chance to get a starting gig if he has a good preseason. We lack players of his type so he may even have his nose in from of other options at this stage. Love his defensive forward pressure more than anything.

Kreuzer will still mainly ruck for mine. When he goes forward I think Casboult will ruck so it would still only be the 3 talls up forward at any one time. Hendo/Jones/Caz or Kreuzer

Names are one thing but the ability for those those names to perform at optimal levels can change a lot.

We may well see the names Henderson, Walker, Thomas, Docherty, Judd, Kreuzer, Tuohy etc appear for round one but given they've had better preparation than they had last year, the output could be/should be considerably different.

We may, but I'm saying I don't think we will. The good thing about this season is that if someone in the middle is not performing, we should have strong candidates to take their place.

I do like the forward line of Thomas, Henderson, Menzel, Jones, Casboult and Walker; that should be a lock for round 1.

Do we get the ball significantly more with full season Judd, second half form Gibbs, load relieved Murphy and uninjured Thomas?

The personnel needs to change.
I am guessing yes. What do the stats say. First half 2014 v second half 2014?

Wouldn't surprise me if BB or Clem perform well this preseaon that they will find themselves in the forwardline. Clem for the obvious and BB for his speed and silk. The highlights package of BB showed he knows where the goals are.

Menzel and Cas imo are the only locks for our forwardline. Hendo may start down back, daisy and Walker hbf/mid and who knows if Jones can fit into our starting 22. I hope he does, but don't want to go too tall.

We really cant have BB playing reserves for the entire year. He has to be pushing for a spot in round 1, he's already played senior WAFL. He's had the best possible foundation to push for senior afl selection. Especially for a 21 year old.

Was surprised we didn't draft a ruckman with our rookie picks, but I like the guys we've brought in.

We've got some selection pressure coming up which we basically haven't had in years. If Kreuzer is playing forward alongside a Cas and Hendo, as suggested Jones may not be an automatically starting 22.

Yeah being 21 you think he should be right to go. We've definitely seen something in him.

I think casboults kicking will be a big decider in selection also.

F Thomas Jones Boekhorst
HF Walker Casboult Menzel
C Gibbs Cripps Docherty
HB Simpson Rowe Yarran
B Buckley Jamison Henderson
R Kruezer Murphy Curnow
Int Judd Everitt Graham sub Clem

Something different. I'm sure I'm missing someone.

The way I see it, Casboult gets a game because he can play the forward/ruck role, as a sole forward his kicking and goal kicking numbers let him down in a massive way.

It will get very interesting if our experiment with Kreuzer forward is successful. Might squeeze Casboult out which would give us great strength in the ruck as Warnock/Wood would be our main ruckmen changing with Kreuzer. At this stage I don't think it'll happen but you never know.

Our big forwards will be keen to do well at practice and in the nab cup. Plenty to chose from. Trying to make Kreuzer a forward, Watson showing plenty as a forward, Henderson likely to be the number one forward, Jones an almost certain starter, Casboult looking to make improvements and even young Foster will likely have his moments in the VFL.

You can't actually rule out that Henderson may possibly return to the backline if we have a heap of big forwards succeed.

Things getting real interesting, can't help but feel we're going to be like a new club in 2015, very exciting.

Play Kreuzer predominately in the midfield. He's so much better when not having to chase his rebounding defender and he's not the best mark. The times I've seen him play well forward are where he's drifted forward and lost his defender. He's also probably our smartest tap ruckman and although he probably won't win a majority of the hit outs his effective taps would be of more use....I just can't get that Sydney game from a few years ago out of my head.

But agree with gbatman in that Casboult will shape our forward line to an extent. He definitely looks to have trimmed down this preseason and noticed he had the fluro best trainer cap on the week before Kreuze.

On another note, I really hope we see Dylan Buckley or Sam Docherty getting serious midfield time right away in the preseason games. Buckley would be my choice for the role but Docherty is probably a step ahead in his development. This will also depend on how we see Boekhorst transitioning to AFL but at the moment our wings are a weak spot on our list. We could have Cripps, Gibbs and Curnow do the bulk of the inside work to have Murphy and Judd more outside but even with McLean we didn't really end up following through, maybe Cripps will be an elite clearance player that Brock wasn't *fingers crossed*.

There's also a spot in the forward line up for grabs if we decide we need a specialist type crumber so it wouldn't be totally unbelievable if Clem or Tutt see good senior footy.

I think that we recruited players that have a chance to play. I think that we would have recruited differently if we didnt want to use the majority of our new recruits to play this year.

Jaksch will be groomed for KP defender but will take the third tall this year behind rowe and jamieson>Expect to play.
Whiley will be ready to play no question. A midfield spot beckons
Boekhorst will be able to play- still underdone like say menzel was but should get a game
jones ready to play and probably will
DVR probably a development year
Clem could slot into a forward pocket role. Obviously has limited fitness
Jayden Foster. Probably wont play
Tutt ready to play. A half forward spot looks likely
Dick ready to play if good enough

I think that the football department have penciled in Jaksch, Jones, and Tutt as starters in our best 22.

Like most years there will be surprises. Players that excel in training and just demand a spot eg Buckley in 2014. Hopefully of the 6 remaining recruits another one or two can surprise and demand a spot. I suspect Whiley will be one of them.

C: Simpson Gibbs Yarran
HF: Thomas Henderson Boekhorst
F: Menzel Casboult Walker

R: Kreuzer, Murphy, Judd

IC: Cripps, Jones, Bell Sub: Curnow

Curnow a tagger? Unlikely. Why waste a prolific ball-winner in a negating role?

We have Buckley for the Aaron Joseph little-guy roles and Holman for the Ling/Crowley big-guy roles.

Curnow is ideal for tagging. Apart from his athletic attributes, he isn't damaging enough with his disposal (or is very damaging, depending which angle you come from!) to warrant running free as a link-up creative type or whatever.

I'd use him in the Sewell role and have him go head to head with an opposition prime mover while still being able to get his hands on the ball.

Curnow is first picked every single week - no two ways about it.

I posted in the Toast Curnow thread around round 10 or something - according to Champion Data Curnow is one of the best taggers in the comp - better than Crowley and only slightly behind Picken or whatever his name is

He is essential - absolutely essential. Everitt etc dont tag the central midfielders that Curnow cuts up

Curnow is great for the medium sized inside mids like Ablett and Cotchin.

He can also do a great job on the outside runners but Curnow doesn't have the strength to stop a Watson, Fyfe or Pendlebury unfortunately.
