These blokes always get criticized when their man beats them, but rarely get the plaudits when they don't. Who's the best player at shutting opponent small forwards out of the game? For me it's Nick Smith from Lee Spurr and (biased) Mark Baguley

Would have to go with Tom Jonas personally, Nick Smith 2nd.

Bit unrelated but thought I'd ask - surprised though that Dunn and Duryea were named for their clubs? Thought Duryea played further up the ground, and Dunn in the forward line. Is that right or have I just not watched enough of them?

Duryea's basically taken over Guerra's role, and Dunn plays in defence I thought?

Even unbiasedly I'd have to say Baguley, top 3 anyway. They are all unsung heroes though.

Picken struggled last year, but so far this year he's blanketed the small forwards in all his games and kept them to practically no score, while getting 20-25+ touches himself, but I think he goes a bit unnoticed. Would definitely be up there.

Having said that, I would have Smith, Baguley, Picken in that order, but I will admit to not having seen Spurr so can't comment on his game.

Luke Brown quickly becoming one of the best lockdown small defenders but Nick Smith is incredibly good at it.

I really like how hard Stevey Morris plays, he looks like the type of bloke everyone would want on their team

No doubt Atley would surprise a few.

Reinforces just how awesome Corey Enright is.

Out of interest do you have a tall defender reverse coleman?

I saw it mentioned somewhere, from memory it had Scott Thompson, Eric MacKenzie and Luke McPharlin as the 3 least goals conceded last season

Daniel Talia mentioned at all?
I honestly can't remember, I looked for Carlisle and the top 3, outside of that I don't know

Some of those poll options are plain offensive.

Smith with absolute ease for mine. Class act. I'd have Jonas following him (though he's not able to handle every kind of small) with Morris, Picken and Toovey in the next group.

Stratton is the best pure defender at Hawthorn. Support his team mates being 3rd man up, can take intercept marks, plays on anyone (sandilands to betts) and is rarely beaten also In 2013 started to break lines with his rebound.
If you ever wounder why hawthorn is such a good football team you just have to look at underrated guys like startton.
