I nominated a song just because, but If I was not host I would have gone this one.... The bold part is from 'The Great Dictator' the Charlie Chaplin movie.

Iron sky - Paolo Nutini
We are proud individuals living for the city,
But the flames couldn't go much higher.
We find Gods and religions to,
To paint us with salvation.
But no one,
No nobody,
Can give you the power,
To rise over love,
And over hate,
Through this iron sky,
That's fast becoming our minds.
Over fear and into freedom.
Oh, that's life
Left dripping down the walls
Of a dream that cannot breathe
In this harsh reality
Mass confusion spoon fed to the blind
Serves now to define our cold society
From which we'll rise over love,
Over hate,
Through this iron sky,
That's fast becoming our minds.
Over fear and into freedom.
You just got to hold on!
You just got to hold on!
Ohhh ohhhh oh oh
[Spoken]
(To those who can hear me, I say, do not despair.
The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed,
The bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress.
The hate of men will pass, and dictators die,
And the power they took from the people will return to the people.
And so long as men die, liberty will never perish.
Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men -
Machine men with machine minds and machine hearts!
You are not machines, you are not cattle, you are men!
You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful,
To make this life a wonderful adventure
Let us use that power!
Let us all unite!)

And we'll rise over love,
And over hate,
Through this iron sky,
That's fast becoming our minds
Over fear,
Into freedom.
Into freedom!
From which we'll rise over love,
And over hate,
Through this iron sky,
That's fast becoming our minds
Over fear,
Into freedom
Freedom
From which we'll rise over love,
And over hate,
Through this iron sky,
That's fast becoming our minds.
Over fear and into freedom.
Freedom!
Oh!
Rain on me!
Rain on me!
Rain on me!

Not just brilliant lyrics, a brilliant song.
If you're a music lover and haven't heard it, do yourself a favour!!!

Surprised there wasn't much Dylan.

How many ears must one man have before he can hear people cry? Yes, and
how many deaths will it take 'til he knows that too many people have died?

I really wanted to nominate Dylan, but I made a rule earlier in the contest to not nominate the same artist twice if I can avoid it. :( I nominated my next favourite lyricist.

Bruce Springsteen – Born To Run Lyrics

In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through the mansions of glory in suicide machines
Sprung from cages out on highway nine,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected, and steppin' out over the line
H-Oh, Baby this town rips the bones from your back
It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we're young
`Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run

Yes, girl we were

Wendy let me in I wanna be your friend
I want to guard your dreams and visions
Just wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims
And strap your hands 'cross my engines
Together we could break this trap
We'll run till we drop, baby we'll never go back
H-Oh, Will you walk with me out on the wire
`Cause baby I'm just a scared and lonely rider
But I gotta know how it feels
I want to know if love is wild
Babe I want to know if love is real

Oh, can you show me

Beyond the Palace hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard
Girls comb their hair in rearview mirrors
And the boys try to look so hard
The amusement park rises bold and stark
Kids are huddled on the beach in a mist
I wanna die with you Wendy on the street tonight
In an everlasting kiss

One, two, three, four!

The highway's jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive
Everybody's out on the run tonight
But there's no place left to hide
Together Wendy we can live with the sadness
I'll love you with all the madness in my soul
H-Oh, Someday girl I don't know when
We're gonna get to that place
Where we really wanna go
And we'll walk in the sun
But till then tramps like us
Baby we were born to run

Oh honey, tramps like us
Baby we were born to run

Come on with me, tramps like us
Baby we were born to run

Contains one of the most famous lyrics of all time.

To be serous for a moment, I've also thought this was some of Bon Scott's finest, even though it was only a b-side. Also a little prophetic.

"Carry Me Home"

The bartender's working on a late night shift
She's bonka blonds and Bon aims on a midnight drift
And the dance band's playing the same old slam
I'm sinking whiskey and you're sipping fine wine
I don't know what it is you're trying to prove
Well it should be you but it's me who can hardly move
And I've got my reputation lying on the line
Come on baby, be a good dog and help the blind

Won't you carry me home
(Like a truck, pick me up)

You ain't no lady but you've sure got taste in men
That head of yours has got you by time and time again
My arms and legs are aching and my head's about to blow
And your back's been breakin' and I'd hate to spoil the show
But I've just spent next weeks wages and I'm right out of coin
But you want more and it's half past four and they want to close the joint
But we can't afford a taxi, and it's too late for the bus
But I've been told by friends of mine you're someone I can trust

Carry me home
Won't you carry me home
Carry me home
(Don't let me lie here in all this beer)

You drank all your booze and half of mine
I'm bleary eyed and you're waiting for the sunshine (to come and kill me)
Just like the man who threw me on the floor
Don't matter, while I'm down here I might as well try and find the ******* door
Excuse me, have you seen it? It's about this big
And have you got a plastic bag 'cause I'm gonna be sick
I'm dead drunk and heave'n hanging upside down
And you're getting up and leaving, you think I'm gonna drown

Carry me home
Won't you carry me home (can you help)
Carry me home

Carry me home
Won't you carry me home
Carry me home

"But for the sky there are no fences facing" is one of my favourite lines from anything.

"Where The Wild Roses Grow"
(feat. Nick Cave)

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name is Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name is Elisa Day

From the first day I saw her I knew she was the one
As she stared in my eyes and smiled
For her lips were the colour of the roses
That grew down the river, all bloody and wild

When he knocked on my door and entered the room
My trembling subsided in his sure embrace
He would be my first man, and with a careful hand
He wiped at the tears that ran down my face

[Chorus]

On the second day I brought her a flower
She was more beautiful than any woman I'd seen
I said, "Do you know where the wild roses grow
So sweet and scarlet and free?"

On the second day he came with a single red rose
He said: "Will you give me your loss and your sorrow?"
I nodded my head, as I lay on the bed
"If I show you the roses will you follow?"

[Chorus]

On the third day he took me to the river
He showed me the roses and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he knelt above me with a rock in his fist

On the last day I took her where the wild roses grow
And she lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief
As I kissed her goodbye, I said, "All beauty must die"
And lent down and planted a rose between her teeth

I am so glad Lethal Leigh bashed Nick Cave up.

A blues banger with great lyrics, by a ******* legend:

I gave you a brand new Ford
But you said, "I want a Cadillac"
I bought you a ten dollar dinner
And you said, "Thanks for the snack"

I let you live in my penthouse
You said, "It was just a shack"
I gave seven children
And now you wanna give 'em back

'Cause I've been down hearted, baby
Ever since the day we met
I said, our love is nothing but the blues
Baby, how blue can you get?

Jazny is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

Geez this round was tough to vote for.

it wasn't tough for me because I haven't voted yet, I'll try and get around to it some time this week.
