Bill Shorten - how long?

KIERAN GILBERT: In terms of the merits of this argument where do you stand in terms of seeking a conviction before citizenship is stripped? Do you believe that there needs to be conviction through a court of law whether it be a foreign fighter overseas or in Australia before a Minister should have that discretion?…
MARK DREYFUS: But a conviction which is what the law presently says before it is looked at by a Minister....

KIERAN GILBERT: Does that apply to both those convicted of supporting terrorism offshore as well as those here?
MARK DREYFUS: It should not make any difference at all. We are talking about the potential to strip Australians of their citizenship.

KIERAN GILBERT: So, someone who is fighting in Al-Raqqah in Syria?
MARK DREYFUS: Well, you get them back here. Right?

Spectacular own goal by Dreyfus. The idea is not to let these fighters back into the country.
He is a pretty highly credentialed lawyer who quite rightly sees it as an illegal and unethical act to take someone's citizenship away. And he is correct. His belief in the legal process means he wants them brought back to stand trial and be given a legal hearing and such. Again he is correct.
Ofcourse it does then fit into your view-these stateless people can go somewhere else and be someone else's problem-we absolve ourselves of responsibility, just as we do with the increasingly complex and not going away issue with people seeking asylum.
Suspect the solution is going to be hard to find for all these issues, but to put head in sand is unhelpful to say the least.

If you want corrupt, deceptive, disingenuous look no further than the reactionaries.

As far as Tanya goes the fear among the ratbag right on this board is almost tangible. She'd wipe the floor with Julie Bishop. Can't wait for Bishop to get the reins so Labor can revisit the stuff-up she was as opposition Treasury spokesperson. Also revisit her time in WA politics and why she was forced out after being the anointed one to take over from Court.
Yep they are all big haters of Plibersak but when you ask why they have actually got nothing.

By the way, Shorten won't last the year.
They should be clever and install Bowen, but Labor being Labor they will probably go for the unelectable plibersick.

Worth watching 7.30 tonight. I'd say Bill could be in for a bit of strife NB comments by that QC.

"There's a very large payment to the union one would have hoped that was fully disclosed to the union members," Jeffrey Phillips SC said. "Otherwise it just does raise very serious questions in relation to the propriety or the appropriateness of such a thing, also whether there was a serious conflict of interest."

Mr Phillips said there may be aspects of it which "offend parts of the Fair Work Act".

"Or [they] may even offend, at its very worst, aspects of the Crimes Act with respect to matters such as misleading statements of a dishonest kind — if these weren't matters told to members," he said. "Or indeed it might even amount to a secret commission. And a secret commission is a matter which is very much under the province of the criminal law."

I don't think Plibersek is unelectable, given that we have elected Rudd, Gillard and Abbott.

It's just that she is as thick as pig s**t.
Uhuh-of course, any evidence in support of said claim though? And really, given your very poor track record with making predictions, you can hardly expect me to give this latest theory of yours any cred either Rotto.

Good, because I did predict on here that Plibersek would be next PM.

As for Plibersek, what glittering jewels do you recall from her ministerial days. IIRC she was a shithouse housing minister.

Anyway, this thread is about Showbag Bill.

Well given the title of the thread, suspect that means his demise is being discussed, so that probs leads onto his replacement.
How was she no good as housing minister please?

National Rental Affordability Scheme is a good place to start. That's gone well.

SOCIAL Services Minister Kevin Andrews has flagged a major shake-up of the National Rental Affordability Scheme in the wake of revelations the program has been manipulated to build student housing that is being let to wealthy foreign students.

Mr Andrews has moved to close the loophole that has seen international students become key beneficiaries of the flagship $4.5 billion Rudd-era social housing scheme, which had been aimed at providing affordable housing for low-income Australians.

Also see if you can Google a Jenny Brockie SBS program where then minister Plibersek shows her foolishness with the first home buyers grant and Ross Gittins just laughing in her face because he's arguing with a thick as pigs s**t party apparatchik spouting rehearsed lines the silly bitch doesn't understand.

Leave you to it.

She is brainwashed. She doesn't have an opinion except for the scripted party line. Speaks absolute fairytale dribble that doesn't belong to the real world.
Watch her when she talks. Tanya is off with the pixies!

Ok have just had a quick look and no luck. Couldn't find the Brockie episode. Couldn't get the link to the Australian. Couldn't really find any other enlightening articles on google about the NRAS.
Am reluctant to accept Kev Andrews as the last word on anything though.
But thanks for the pointers and will have another look at it soon.

Ah well thanks Lebbo-that's it then-you've won me over!

So he wants a ISIS headcutter to be caught then dragged back here for his day in court then bundled on a plane and kicked out.
Why don't we just trial in absentia. They won't appeal.
