Bishop's 2015 Draft Thread

You have a new top 10?
Thoughts on Bailey Rice and SOSSOS stocks?

My only change probably would be Matheison up to St Kilda's pick and push Tucker/Partington down- I'll make changes to the Phantom Draft at the completion of the champs.

Rice had a good game yesterday in defence, got a good kick on him. I'd still keep where he is for the moment. At the end of the day, he probably falls between 25-45 just depends on the rest of his year.

Silvagni was what I expected of him, I don't 'rate' him- However he is a December born lad, so he's almost bottom aged. Would have liked more from him especially against WA (after his 6 goal haul), 40+ range for him.

I think we'd take Nate Dennis over Mabior Chol and perhaps rookie Chol.

Will be interesting to see how the academy guys fall, whether they'll need to bid on all of them/will just take them in the draft.

I liked Chol today, Dennis is a good prospect for the ruck. Tasmania didn't have too many talls so can see why the taller players played well, so the game vs NSW will be better to gauge them from.

A guy like Matthew Flynn might dominate Dennis, but will be a good contest to see.

There seems to be a few father/son prospects that have shown very little, this kids need to earn it like all the other kids

West Coast finishing 2nd! If we can get top 4 we'll be looking at possibly 4th otherwise mark us down for 6th and Ah Chee with our first rounder, unless it ends up at GWS in exchange for Coniglio!!!

Like it, love the hard work, but don't see us passing on McKay if we could get him in the 3rd round!
I did all that before the recent round of champs mind you :p

I agree with you, he'll be up there. In saying that, I'm not sold- But I'll be a minority here: Speaking with a friend of mine who works at a certain AFL club, reckons he'll be pushing first round.

I heard the same, albeit most likely from a different source. You'd think Fremantle might be keen for example.

You have a new top 10?

Bishop can you give me a list of Metro players you feel will be in strong contention to get drafted or Rookied? They were very poor against WA last Friday and strong players like Clarke and Balic were very quiet, I think Metro need to have a big game against SA on Wednesday to bring some of them back on the radar of recruiters.

The recruiters would be looking at the TAC Cup games, not just the Metro U18 champs- players do get drafted that don't make the Vic Metro squads (mostly rookies)

The players with the best chance would be
Balic, R.Clarke, O'Kearney, Gresham, Weideman, Silvagni no doubt will be on lists next year.

The next 'batch' that you'd think will end up on AFL lists are

B.Crocker, Hardwick, T.Thompson, Fiorini, Parsons, Kerbatieh,

The others that appear in my "Power Rankings" have the chance to be drafted, yes Vic Metro might be weak overall- but they'll still have a decent representation overall.

I think they'll have a fair few rookie players and drafted players overall, I'd be thinking 20+, but it will depend on how many picks each club want to use.

The percentage of TAC CUP kids taken as rookies each year is quite low, at around 20%....Usually it's between 10-12 out of approximately 60 selections

That's true, but they are still well represented, when you take out those rookie drat players that have been in the AFL system (From 2014, McKernan, Ahmed Saad etc) about a 1/3 usually come from TAC Cup.

(Rookies are "generally" speculation picks)

Each club certainly rate players higher than others, Derek Hine is on record saying he prefers WAFL/SANFL players who have played senior footy rather than players who just play TAC Cup.

With the National Championships complete, I'll be working to re-adjust my Power Rankings as well as getting "small" profiles for the players in my first round of the Phantom Draft. It will be complete in the next fortnight!

Bish, great thread!

Thoughts on Dunkley and Rice as to highest rated f/s.

Thoughts on how the new system (r.e. f/s bidding, whether people overbid to force rivals to give more...) will be manipulated and whether it will affect their value?

Also they started the year looking like 30 picks apart, but I think they will be less than 10 now 15-25 ish.

At this stage you'd think Dunkley is the best F/S prospect. Based on last year and his recent form (coming back from injury) he'll be close to a top 10 pick. Depending on whether he nominates/Sydney take him is another question- Wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't nominate, but we've got a while for that to play out. Rice played pretty well for Vic Country this year, you'd think he'll fall outside the first round, but yet again it will depend on bids and what club he picks.
Dunkley for me falls around pick 10-15
Rice for me would be 25-35

I don't think clubs would bid more to force rivals- You have to remember that there may be a chance a club doesn't match an offer (More likely on academy kids, rather than F/S mind you). If Geelong with Pick 10 put a bid on Jack Silvagni (Father/son at Carlton) as hard as it may be Carlton probably wouldn't match that bid due to it being "too" high for his value.

Richmond last year bid on Liam Dawson & Nth Melb bid on Jack Steele, so I still think clubs will adopt the same process only bidding on players that they value higher than others. I think everyone will be watching closely to see how it all plays out this year, even the clubs aren't sure!

I'd rip my hair out if Essendon went small first round again. We need young KPP's desperately.

The Dons need a fair few players, but when you look at your spine
Hurley, Hooker

Daniher, Carlisle

It's not horrible- If Carlisle goes there is no doubt you do. But the talls in Essendon's range Weideman/McKay, they will need time, they aren't going to play for two years after they are drafted.

I'd be hoping Essendon try to go down the St Kilda path (from the last few drafts) to get as many picks as possible it would be favourable..

Bishop if Blues get pick 3 in the draft and Schache and Weitering are taken, who should CFC take at 3?

If Bombers, Saints & Melbourne finish with picks 4, 5 and 6. How would that order look in your opinion as still weighing up if Blues should try trade for another top pick
