Lance Franklin
Lance Franklin is a giant of the game. The star Sydney Swans forward has played 300 AFL games, won two premierships with Hawthorn, is the seventh-greatest goal-kicker in VFL/AFL history, is one of just five men with eight All Australian blazers and is the most recent player to have kicked 100 goals in a season. The Western Australian is also one of just two players in the game’s history, along with former Swan and Saint Tony Lockett, to have booted 300 goals for two clubs. Franklin was added to a leadership group for the first time in his career ahead of season 2020, joining co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Callum Mills. But the 33-year-old, who was named captain of the 2018 All Australian team, has long been considered an exceptional unofficial leader, so great is his impact on Will Hayward, Nick Blakey, Ben Ronke and the rest of Sydney’s young forwards.

Lance Franklin
DOB: 30 January 1987
DEBUT: 2005
DRAFT: #5, 2004 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Dowerin (WA)/Perth (WAFL)/Hawthorn

Happy to be corrected

But its the same for all contracts unless the afl give you an exemption eg clark at the dees or if there were something tragic to happen, eg player died

Only Buddy being forced into retirement whilst playing for Sydney could possibly qualify as a non-tragedy or fail to be seen as an unforeseen circumstance, I guess?

I posted somewhere else on BF the reason why the AFL's warning to Sydney made sense. Their draft/FA rules would be pretty useless if clubs could run around offering nonsensical contracts whenever they liked with no intention of honouring them.

But if Buddy left footy (a true tragedy at this stage I refuse to contemplate) this simply has nothing to do with draft/trade tampering concerns of the League.

If Sydney were held to account in their cap regardless of this unforeseen circumstance, are we to assume that all the other clubs that tried to sign him would have millions counted against their caps as well? Would the Hawks have lost access to $3million in 2016. 17 and 18? Would GWS have lost even more than $4m< in 16/17/18 and 19?

Would the Bulldogs with Boyd? Would Geelong or Melbourne with Dangerfield?

I doubt it.

But in Sydney we are special, I guess.

Yep. Totally agree with you there.

But this cap thing gets thrown around as if it's L.A.W. law, when it' not as simply as that. Needs to be countered occasionally.

WTFDWFT = Where the **** do we find them - added extras by some from this board

Bedders created both

Dont take that away from him :p

Yeah I was there. He seemed pretty much ok, maybe a bit distracted but I just put that down to pre-match tension. He didn't really stop to talk, he said he was in a hurry but was happy to pose for the pic and then move on. Him and drex were heading out but came back a little while later.

http://www.sydneyswans.com.au/news/2015-10-06/longmire-confident-of-franklin-return

Swans Coach John Longmire is confident Lance Franklin will return to the club for pre-season training.

The fact that Longmire has made that statement is very positive, considering how knowledgeable is he about the treatment of mental health issues, and how close he is to what's going on.

MB will still be talking about how he's been abducted by Aliens from Mars, of course. If/when he runs out for us, they'll be accusing him of being replaced by a pod from the Body Snatchers movie.

Hopefully that ends the rumors.
