Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Sapphire series final is coming up in 2 weeks (final is held over 2 days on the 23rd and 24th of June) prize pool is around the 100K mark and is the 1st 2 day final to be held in WA.

$1100 buy in, or there were 11 satellites (10 freezeouts, 1 rebuy) that you could try and get through for $125

I played my one and only satellite a few weeks back and was glad to get through. 77 runners, top 7 through to final, 8th got $770.

Getting pocket Aces 4 times and not getting cracked once helped (including someone pushing me in with 10-10 and someone having KK another hand vs my AA, where we got all in)

also 2 cash events:

$330 NL on Thursday the 21st

$120 (with $100 rebuys) PL Omaha Hi on the Friday 22nd

Big Final is Tomorrow!!! (Saturday)

Rumour has it, that they have upped the starting stacks from the usual 2K for smaller events to 8-10K, they have added a 150-300 blind level and the levels will be 45 mins and the entrants have been capped at 120, and its meant to be full, so looks like the prizepool will be 120K. Well thios is the info my mate got from one of the poker managers.

Pretty pumped for it, i'll be happy as long as i play my best poker, if i take bad beats, so be it, but i'll be mad if its me doing something dumb.

I'm hoping to make it to day 2, although im not sure how mnay players they want to play down to. Will update it when/if i have time after the days play (if anyone actually cares :p)

Edit:

got 40th, knocked out 15 mins before the end of days play :(

could not get anything going, played for close to 8 hours and didnt see rockets once. had a few small pairs but didnt connect, tried bluffing a pot and didnt get anything. Only real big hand was when i hit nut flush after re raising pre flop and got about a 5K pot with that.

was pushing a lot near the end a lot, as i was short. Got called by a smaller stack when i had AQ and he had KK, and he held up. then i get KK, push, no callers.

Hand i got knocked out on:

had KK in mid possie, push for 5800 (bb was 1400), get a reraise in seat to my left, all others fold, he has AK and flops the A.... night over. oh well. was fun

Re: Experience at crown.

Played at the Burswood last night for about 5 hours. Played 2/3 $100 buy in.

Got some decent hands early on. Got my stack up to $250, after getting trip aces on the turn.

Then i didn't get anything good for about 2 - 2 1/2 hours. Tried to bluff a couple of hands but it was such a loose table i just couldn't find a way to steal one.

Picked up T,T. UTG raises his last $30 all in. I shove my last $100 just to make it a showdown. He flips over K,K. I'm down to $70

Get T,T a few hands later. Lady to my right goes all in for 20. I call, BB calls. Flop T,6,3 with 2 spades. BB bets $50. I shove all in, he calls. He's got a flush draw, lady shows J,J. Turn is a 6, River a blank for the lady. I'm back to $170.

Getting towards the end. I get 7,6 MP, i limp in. Flop K,7,6, BB leads out $15, I raise to $50, guy next to me calls (he's a chaser), BB reraises to $150. He had been playing decently but not great, i put him on A,K so i go all in. Chaser folds, BB calls.

He shows K,7. I don't hit my 6.

The table didn't really suit my style of play. But can't expect much on a Sat night.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Played 5-5 at Burswood Sat Night.

Went intially to play 2-3 but the list was 2 hours long so i thought ____ it.

Bought in well under the 500 max for $200. Most of the table was sitting on $1000 so i was up against it. First Hand i get K-9 suited so i check it to the flop. A-9-3 with 2 diamonds. Asian guy bets out 25 (he's the short stack on about 90) I call. Turn is 5h i think. Asian guy shoves all in, I think and put him on Asian LAG. Probably not a wise move. He has an ace. I don't hit my diamond.

Few hands later get dealt A-8 LP, table was limping so i limped in. Flop A,8,3. UTG+2 bet out for 25. I call. 8 on the turn. He bets out for 50. I put in my last 75. He calls with A,K with an annoyed look. I might have folded preflop if he had made it expensive. Asian LAG also put in about $50 into the pot giving me $250

About an hour later i pick up A,2 two seats from the button. I limp. Button raises to 30, i call. (he had been raising with just about any 2 cards at that point). Flop A,5,A with 1 club. I check. He bets 50. I stare him down, put him on K high, so i call. Turn 7c. I lead out 100, he is stunned by the move, contemplates and pushes all in. I call the rest of my stack. He has K,Jcc. His club doesn't hit. Up to $550.

Got A,Jhh in Btn-1 (or w/e that seat is called). Guy in MP raised it to $30 preflop. I called. 9,8,8. Checked down to the turn. 9. MP lead out $50. I thought for a long time and only put him on A,K, A,Q, K,Q so i thought i was going to tie atleast. I call. River Ace. He checks, I Check so i don't get trapped. He shows K,Q suited. Hooray i made a good read :)

Barely got anything for a while. Asian LAG went all in for like $60 after the flop and i had open end straight draw. He had high card Ace. I didn't hit any of my 13 outs.

Few hands later get Q,Jhh in position. Some guy had raised it to 30 so i just called. UTG+1 called. J,J,7 was the flop. Checked to the turn. Ace. I thought perfect, i put UTG on an ace so i led out with a $50 bet. He raised it to $100. I thought hard but called. River was 5 i think, I led out $50 again. He raised to $250. I only put him on A,K or similar so i called. He showed 7,7. I should have picked it.

Next hand get 8,8. Push the rest of my stack all in preflop (about 100) because i was tired and tilting. Get called by Q,Q. Lost $200. Was happy with my play for the first 3 hours. Last 30 minutes i got lost.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Welcome to the thread :thumbsu:.

BTN-1 is the cutoff (CO)
BTN-2 is the hijack (HJ)

Can you give us some preliminary info on Burswood? How many poker tables? Opening hours? What games do they run and at what limits? Buy-in min and max? Rake? Hourly charge?

For many years I've wanted to go to Perth for the Hopman Cup. I often try to include sport in a holiday. One day ...

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Thank You. I'm no good with poker terms. All i know is I should only play on the button and any other seat i should only be playing Rockets. ;)

About 8 tables. Don't have an hourly rate i think, Standard rake I think. Open 24 hours.

2-3 is a flat buy in of $100

5-5 is $100-$500

They have like a 5-10 limit game on there aswell. Haven't been many times so i'm not sure of all the ins and outs. Only ever seen Texas Hold Em. Only ever been Friday and Sat nights.

I'm going in tomorrow after work because i'm working near by. I'll try and get some more info.

I like the Crown Casino thread because it's just a much more developed thread and you get advice from the right people. But I guess it's time we get this one going.

Incorrect.

For many years you have wanted to go to Perth to play poker, and see the Hopman Cup as something else to do while you're over there. :)

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Incorrect.

I really wanted to sneak into the Hopman Cup party and shag Amanda Coetzer senseless.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

For those who dont know Burswood has been running their sapphire series the alst few weeks which will continue into early June IIRC.

Buy-ins range from 50-10 through to 500-50 for the heads-up tournament, with satelites for the NZ poker champs a highlight.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Went to Burswood to play poker for the first time in a while on Thursday night.

Played 2/3 as per usual and got a few good hands early, in particular making a set of 3's to win a pot of $220 against trip queens. Table turned nasty when my mate, who hadnt won a hand for over an hour, called a raise and showed as he called with pocket 6's to make two pairs. The initial raiser, not knowing someone had called his bet after the river, through his cards toward the muck pile, showing a 5 that had made trips. Spent 10 minutes debating who had won the hand, and in the end they chopped the pot off the table at the end of the night.

At about 2 o'clock i was going to leave, sitting on about $250. They made an announcement that all tables were shutting down at 2:30 for ANZAC day. I decide to stay on and first hand lose $40. Next hand on the button, I get 7c 8c, and call a $15 raise. Flop the nuts with a 4c, 5h, 6s board. He raises 30, i put him all in for $140 he calls with top pair, ace kicker and goes down like a $2 hooker.

Next hand 10, 2 suited. Limp in, flop the full house and make another $130 from the tables big stack who was on about $700 at the time. next hand A Q and flop a queen. Raise 15 and called by 3 people on both pre-flop and post-flop. Turn is an ace, and big stack, knowing I hadnt looked estatic by the turn, bets $40. I call and the last card is rag. He bets $100 and I call, his AK not standing up. Ended up about $480 up for the night:thumbsu:

Went last night as well because I was bored. Won a few early hands, nothing special, got to $150 when I got bullets in the BB. Everyone limps to right of the dealer, who was now to the table, who raises 15, dealer and SB call, I raise to $45 total, and only the initial raiser and dealer call this extra bet. Flop is K, 10, x. I bet $60, new guy goes into the tank, eventually calls, and dealer folds. He has K9 suited and makes a 9 on the turn. The river brings a 10, giving me aces and tens and the pot. New guy cracks the shits because I over-celebrated the river, and goes on to criticise my hairstyle, age, personality as he loses about $300 in 30 minutesetc... Made me laugh:D.

Left about square after losing $160 in one hand after raising with AdKd. Being called by one, and him going all in on a flop of Ks, 10d, 9d. He had flopped the straight, and after an ace on the turn, couldnt hit one of my many outs:mad:.

Good few nights overall though, and am looking to go back on Tuesday

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Sounds like a plan.

Im also looking to play in the $50 + $10 tournament next month. Should be fun and because its only a $60 compared to the usual $100 buy-in for casino poker a few of my mates should be up for it as well.

I read that as you flopped a set, he flopped a Q and turned or rivered trips, meaning you booked up.

goes on to criticise my hairstyle

Are you sure he wasn't right on this point?

Point 1 - I think you are correct. Board paired, Ash has book.

Point 2 - Probably like one of those english chaps with too much of everything in their hair.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

My best recollection of the hand in full.

ash12: 3 3
Him: Q, J

He bets $15, called by 4 people

FLOP: 3, Q, 7 rainbow. I check, he bets $30, I call. Turn 5. I check, he raises $50, i go all in, he calls. My 3's full of Q's, his top pair queens. He hits another queen on the river, but I make full house.

Hope that is a bit clearer.:)

Your wording was throwing me off.

You have a set of 3s with Q kicker on the flop and turn.

You don't make 3s full of Q's until the river.

He was never going to win that hand after the turn. Interesting play him calling your all in with Top pair, J kicker.

He makes trips, but the board pairs to give you the book.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

The guy was on tilt after apparently losing a big hand just before I had gone on the table. From what I heard from the guy next to me, he had been raising an incredible number of hands pre-flop, then after the flop, and had taken down an awful lot of pots. Was the tables big stack, and lost a $500-$600 pot when he flopped top pair against a guy who flopped a straight, who was the tables second biggest stack.

There was some angry players the last few nights anyway.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Registered for the $50-$10 NLHE event tomorrow. Was going to play the satellite to the main event during the week, but was busy and missed out.

I will inform you of my horrific bad beats later tomorrow.;)

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Tournament was very interesting to say the least. Me and two mates went, one of whom was an exchange srudent from the US. First hand, QJ suited first to act, I limp, raised folds to me I call. Flop a full house and after sitting on 2000 to start, am up to about 3000. All seems good, except for the fact my Aussie mate had gotten eliminated first hand. He had AJ suited in the button. He raises from 50 to 250 total, two callers. Flop is AJ8 rainbow. He checks, bet, call, re-raise from him, fold, call. Next card is a 7, mate checks, other guy pushes all in, my mate calls, thinking only a set could be in front, as no-one would call that kind of raise with 10,9. He turns over 10.9.

I finished up about 50th out of 100, twice running into bullets, first pre-flop with AQ suited and second with 99 which was an overpair of a board of 7 4 2. Dumb woman never even raised pre-flop:mad:. Pretty happy with my play on the whole, considering it was my first ever live tourney.

American mate finishes up 2nd and pockets a cool $1000. Last hand of the tournament, 3 remaining, raised pre-flop by the small stack, called and called. Flop is As Kc 10s. Small stack is all in, called by biggest stack, American friend goes all-in over the top and is called. Other blokes A10 holds up against my friends Ks Qs and takes out the tourney.

Again, happy with my play as a whole, but with a bit of luck after the first break could have had a lot more....

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Went in to Burswood this afternoon.

Played 5/5.

Bought in for 500. Lost about 100 when short stack rivered a 5 to give him a 3 of a kind.

Lost bits and pieces having to fold 2 pair on the turn because i knew the bloke in the first hand caught the flush.

Then finally get KK UTG. limp in knowing someone would raise. Lady who couldn't fold a picture to save her life makes it $50, guy in the SB calls. I shove in the rest of my $310, lady calls quickly, SB folds. She shows JJ.

Flop Jxx. Turn 4, River 2. I mutter ____ing 2 outs, how the ____ did she call that after i played it like an obvious QQ, KK hand. etc.

Really pissed off now.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Ouch. PFR to $50 seems strong. Be some time before I play higher than 2/3!

At least you won some Sklansky bucks :(
