Mod. Notice Carlton Board Questions & Suggestions

Would be good to have thread where opposition supporters are welcome and can say whatever they want to say (to a point) without having concerns of being banned.
Sort of like a banter thread but a "Do not enter sign" for Carlton supporters who take things to heart, too readily.

I very much like this idea, particularly the bolded.

I saw on the hawks board that they have a 'HFC Official' account where someone from the club answers questions and responds to comments about things in one mega-thread. i think it'd be great to have a connection to the club here on Bigfooty.

Can Mods please give merging threads a little more (less) thought.
Nothing we haven't covered before but a topic has more life as a stand-alone than mixed with topics of coffee, dad jokes and dating requests. :)

i understand the conundrum: single posts getting lost in a mega-thread VS the forum being drowned in threads for every opinion/story/rumour.
i think threads should be given time to see if they generate discussion before they are dumped into a mega-thread. i think mods are quick to pull the trigger sometime.

re: the off-topic chat, obviously everyone has different views and it annoys a lot of people but i find it more annoying to have threads policed heavily by mods, threats constantly dished out, posts deleted en masse without explanation etc. etc.

I like this. a permanent banter thread would be a lot of fun.

Perhaps a Bay 13 style banter thread, where it is less moderated and people can vent with a little more freedom.
You wouldn't last an hour my very good, well-mannered friend.

I guess that's why I was looking for the feedback. The rumours thread creates angst for everybody it seems. When we don't delete, it upsets those who want to read what they went there for, not conversations they are not a part of. When we do delete, we get asked why and what was the harm in it. It's the fine line between being over officious and a little apathetic. At least this way, people can see that consensus rules.

Why dont you just lock down the old rumour thread and open another with some ground rules and a few of the more recent rumours for people to discuss and go from there..Sorry if I am overstepping the mark, but that thread is massive to read and I am sure would be so much bigger with out all the moderation it takes.

I'm thinking we could launch a new rumour thread each year, so start afresh for 2015. Thoughts?

Sounds good...But I think the etiquettes and rules so to speak need to be clear,this way if posts get deleted posters can refer to the opening post to see why.I am sure over all the deleted post most would fall under 1 of 3 categories;
- denigrating
- nonsense
- off topic

Just a suggestion.

Yeah, and we need to decide if we allow any humour that breaks out along the tone of the thread and snip the off shoots of that, or just play it straight and delete anything that isn't a rumour or discussing a stated rumour. For that we probably need more input. Don't want to kill the camaraderie on the board and over moderate it if we can help it.

The rumours/scandals in the main board have their own sub-board which allows people to start a thread with whatever rumour/info they have. This means all discussion is (generally) limited to that topic. It works very well, but of course there is more content there to work with.

Is there any change we can do the same inside the Blue Room? Perhaps call it:
The Blue Room (General Chat, Rumours and News) - In honour of The Cranium

Blue Room is generally non-footy related and people are not really restricted from starting threads on any random thought they have. Are you saying you want to use the Blue Room to discuss individual football rumours? It might blur the lines between the general chat forum and the footy forum a little too much.

Maybe we can have hot topic breakaway rumour threads such as the Boyd one, and then merge it back again when it loses its lustre?

Hey BigFooty Blues

BigFooty is seeking an opportunity for its audience, you the Carlton board posters, to provide feedback about the state of the Carlton Board. This is distinct from the questions and suggestions thread we opened yesterday as this one has a limited shelf life and we moderators won't touch or reply to this thread for 7 days to allow everyone the chance to offer their feedback unimpeded by our interaction.

For those that want to, feel free to continue to use the permanent suggestions thread as well. These threads are being run all over BigFooty. Bad timing on my part has seen an overlap so my apologies for any feedback fatigue.

If you would take a few moments to vote in the poll above, that would be useful. More importantly though it would be appreciated if you could post your thoughts about the forum in this thread.

Everything is fair game; from us the moderators, to the quality of the discussion on the board itself, to the structure of the forum and anything else you can think of.

How can we improve the board, what we are doing right, what we are doing wrong? Some insight into how you use the board, what you visit for and what you avoid would be useful to.

Please be mindful of the board rules before posting, as they also apply to this thread (keep it polite, keep it civil, refrain from getting personal regarding other posters). If you have problems with other users please contact the moderators privately. We reserve the right to delete posts that breach forum rules.

The floor is yours. Go for it!

Your Mod Team

Silly little thing but you did ask:

Can the prefixes all be of the same length?
Much easier to run the eye straight down than to have it zig zag when scrolling.

I'll put it on a list to go to admin with.

Can I have my own thread?

Hmm, like your own thread to post in? For you only? Would be interesting watching your steady decline ... a social experiment of sorts. Maybe I could have a sock puppet account named Wilson and a volleyball avatar and could interact with you once in a while.

I voted for Good but I don't know what it would take to be great.

Probably some more scope for other teams fans to come in.

Also don't think it looks particularly good if a mod gets into a slanging match with a poster.

I agree with this completely.

I know that the mods request for any feedback from posters to be via PM, maybe the same could be done in reverse? It can be a bit intense to see an essay (sometimes dripping with sarcasm or passive aggressiveness) written in response to someone's questioning of a moderating decision, or several digs back and forth from both sides. Those posts only contribute to clogging up the threads and it's not really a good look.
