With 8 KP games this year that will help the 2015 bottom line.

Hopefully the G home games for us will be big. One V Hawks will be good - probably one V Pies….

And of course we ALL have memberships right!!!!!!! :thumbsu:

Seven games at Simonds I think you mean. We hosted home games at MCG and the dome. I wouldn't be too concerned by this result, not enough information provided just yet.
Yes, I momentarily forgot "home games" doesn't mean that anymore.

You're right. No point getting too upset. What it does highlight is what a fine balancing act it is in the AFL, and how important the TV rights deal is

Ive heard that this Joint http://www.thebrook.com.au/brook/website/which the club apparently owns is a massive money pit and is costing the club a bucket load. Cant offload it for anything at the moment but has been trying for a large portion of last year and this year.
Does anyone know anything about this place and its worth?

I think you are spot-on there. Some serious competition has popped up in the last couple of years.

However I believe that a large shopping centre has just been opened across the road and two large developments are being planned nearby.

The Brook may be any asset worth holding onto.

Good point never post a big profit, keep the books tight, and avoid being penalised by the league whilst always spending money that will ensure future returns and economic stability.

Although the tax may be asset based and not income based. If it is then we are screwed because we're the only club with our own stadium.

Think again,Its not owned by the Cub.

Has anyone seen the actual accounts or are we just relying on the stuff that Caro has written in the paper? She's a good journalist, but I doubt she would have much of an idea what all the numbers in a set of financial statements mean. If anyone has seen a full set of accounts for the latest financial year, can they please point me in the right direction as to where I might find them.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for it. Quite often the numbers tell a different story to the headlines. Happy to give an update once I've had a chance to look through the statements if anyone wants it.
Of course we do, Rankin! In fact, we expect a full report within 24 hours of the figures being released by the club!

Yikes!! When a top-four team with their own home ground can't turn a dollar its time to start asking some serious questions. Read right to the end.

Is there anyone on this board who goes to the AGM who doesn't mind rattling a few cages?
I went to the AGM last year for the first time. It was a complete waste of time and almost seemed to be run for the single purpose of being able to say 'yes we had an AGM'.

Those absent included the president (unwell), the coach, the football manager and the players (all absent).

The agenda was rushed and the open questions time were pushed through as quickly as possible. At one point the phrase "I'm just mindful of time so we'll move on" was used.

Now I don't have much experience in corporate governance, but when you have one opportunity per year for owners (club members) to ask questions of the board in a public forum, I would have thought it would be best practice to give whatever time is required rather than lip service.

You do however by spending on capital works...
No you don't. Capital expenditure is also capitalised on the balance sheet. It is an investing cash flow item in the statement of cash flows, however is not seen in the profit and loss statement immediately, rather as a depreciation expense over the useful life of the asset (usually 20 years).

Can't say I'm disappointed to hear that gaming revenue is falling, though. The sooner we're not overly reliant on that income to shore up the bottom line the better, in my view.

I am fairly sure that I read somewhere a number of years ago the Cooky wants to eventually phase the gaming out of K'Park.

Didn't the Catters have a record number of members in 2014? So please, let's not bring that old chestnut out.
Could be the cheaper types of memberships are boosting the numbers, BNF, but not the dollars. Some of the members who can no longer make it to games could be buying 3 game memberships or just "participation" memberships (if there is such a thing! :p).
You'd have to directly compare membership types to see what effect an increase will have on the previous year's bottom line.
