Long term I see the team as something like this

.1- Warner
.2- Silk/Carters/ bancroft
.3- Burns
.4- Maddison/ Ferguson ( this is the spot that has the potential for someone to really knock the door down. Could have put 10 names down here. Will be interesting to see who stands up in the second half of the shield season. Might be a real young bloke that puts his hand up like travis head.
.5- Smith (c)
.6- Mitchell Marsh
.7- Sam Whiteman
.8- James Pattinson
.9- Nathan Lyon
.10- Josh Hazlewood
.11- Patrick cummins

Not bad long term but I like the Qld leggie Cameron Boyce. I realise that he does not have a great track record at this stage but he has looked as if he can turn the ball. In a limited over game last year I saw him bowl a delivery akin to Warnie's 'ball of the century'. I hope a quality coach gets hold of him and works on his variety.
Travis Head has more going for him than Callum Ferguson. Head has only just come on the scene and has not made a first class ton yet but he has 3 or 4 nineties and you get the feeling that once he gets the first one there will be many more to follow. Ferguson on the other hand has ability but is not consistent enough. Callum just does enough to make you think he might be a Test player without ever making you sure of it.
Jordan Silk is an excellent prospect and a good player to watch. Not sure how much he has done this year but like Travis Head he has time on his side.

Don't understand why people are like that, I don't care what state they come from, as long as they are good enough. I want the Bushrangers and Stars to win tournaments but what state they come from has no impact at all in who I want picked.

Hughes wasn't even Victorian for example but I loved him.
Couldn't agree more. I want the best player picked for Australia, and I don't care if they're from VIC or from Queensland.

Everyone is different. It feels like forever since a Queenslander got a baggygreen. I think the last one was Mitchell Johnson. Also for the record I was pretty stoked when Hazlewood debuted.
IMO its that reason why Vics are so parochial. Australia were the Greatest side ever and they were offended that Shane Warne was the only representitive....

Boof Lehmann says it has not been decided where Joe Burns will bat if he plays. According to Boof, Burns can bat anywhere from no1 to no6.

Maybe it is worth giving Burns a go at No3 and pushing Watson up to no6. It probably will not happen as they may want to protect Burns a bit but if he is a future opener he has to get used to the sharp end of Test cricket sooner or later. If Burns came off at 3 it would solve a huge problem for us with the Ashes tour coming up next winter.

I think this is what will happen, Burns will play at 3 and Watson will bat at 6.

It actually was very good, the best 9 I've ever seen!
One of the most valuable knocks I ever played in my 25 odd years of cricket was a 9.

Great so the good Marsh has to come out while the hopeless one as well as Watson and our keeper who's about as useful with the bat as Glenn McGrath stay.

Seriously I hope India hold their nerve a bit better in Melbourne and give us the embarrassing spanking our stupid selections deserve.

BTW anyone proposing Faulkner for anything test cricket related is absolutely kidding themselves.

Who should be picked instead?

You don't want Watson, Marsh or Haddin. Which three guys should be there instead?

Bearing in mind the injuries to Clarke and Mitch Marsh, are the above selections really so unreasonable?

Are you really suggesting that we take a team that has just won two Tests and make 4-5 changes?

IN: Harris, Burns, and three others
OUT: Starc, M. Marsh, Watson, S. Marsh, Haddin

That would be a pretty serious overhaul for a winning team. Is that what you're advocating?

If so, you must have three pretty deserving players in mind to fill those vacant spots in the top seven.

So he's basically the spinning version of Dan Christian? Damn Vics
I am very critical of the construction and selection of the Vic squad, too many but part all rounders, very few specialists, anyone complaining about the lack of Vics in contention needs to avail themselves of these facts. Our best potential test bat is forced to keep sometimes!

Victoria design their squad to win domestic competitions, not to develop test players.

Was more an inquiry from western royboy who had the money he was being considered. Quiney I thought was back to good form (although I'm not suggesting he be picked. He'd have to have a Katich like summer back when he was picked to even be considered and that is unlikely).

Just shows thou how desperate the situation was. He's actually performing slightly better (ave wise at least) to what he was 2 years a go but others have developed/found form so he is no where near it.

FWIW I think Burns is a great call and appropriate at this point. Watson lucky as he is bowling and Faulkner could've had a sniff as Wade could've with Haddin but wholesale changes are unlikely with the score 2-0. The fact no additions were made as cover suggests Warner is 100%.
White has played 3 games - didn't bat in one due to its abortment and was playing ODI cricket during the others - his figures aren't terrible. He's still around the mark. I suggest to all of you that selectors have some influential people who they talk to and discuss opinions on. I would further suggest that Rod Marsh talks to and seeks some input from I.M.Chappell and while this happens Ed Cowan is going to struggle to get a look in.

Along those lines, Quiney is flat out getting a game for Victoria and Voges boat probably sailed unless Clarke doesn't go to England.
