Yes, that is the exact point. The player coming in doesn't have to be the direct replacement for the player going out. Apart from key position players and ruckmen, every other player is able to be moved around in order to play the best available and in-form team. The 'can't drop Charlie, no one in the 2's has the pace to replace him' is a very simplistic view of the selection process.

Agree, Good player player can diversify their skills and playing positions.

Good AFL coaches can motivate bad players to give a new position a go.

Sorry, I'm not seeing the how that is like for like. That appears to be a rational decision based on form, but it's not replacing the lightning quick player with another. Would you care to try again. Are you a like for like enthusiast?
No I'm not.

It was (one of) the moves I wanted.

I was making a (wrong) statement that he's played well up forward before.

So you don't take into account form when selecting a team. You'd select 22 players with defined physical attributes regardless of whether they're performing their role at a high enough level.
What are you even on about, a poster was comparing Cameron to Petrenko and I pointed out that one has a bit more talent than the other...and tell me this sunshine what small forward are you planning to bring in for Cameron?

Lyons has done a good enough job rotating forward before. It's a change of structure, but Cameron simply wasn't playing well enough to retain his spot and it's certainly not a specialist 'like for like' position.

Hes a long term prospect with much upside and while we are winning and in form best to keep him in. The lad has a pretty damn good teacher in Betts and I just dont see the value in him running around in the SANFL

Last week he had 3 disposals, one was a goal, one was a turnover goal. That's just not enough value to keep him in the AFL side.

Yes he had a poor game but the conditions weren't exactly a small forwards dream out there

You're kidding right? Tall forwards can't mark in the wet, lots of scrabbled kicks forward from rain soaked congestion in the middle, those conditions suit nobody else on the ground better.

Rubbish, tall forwards can mark in the wet and congestion is not really beneficial to players that need space to impact a game
