That article in the courier seems like the sort of leaked info an agent drops to squeeze a bit extra out of a contract. Doubt Brisbane has really put a million on the line.

Tippett is the best forward/ruck in the AFL by a long, long way. He's kicked as many goals per game as Pavlich while spending 30-40% of his time playing in the ruck.

Doesn't change my opinion there at all. Not exactly many good names to compete with in that category either.

For the amount he is paid and his output at Adelaide in the same role, he should be doing a lot more.
When he is on, he is quite good, but far too inconsistent

You should try reading the whole article. He's literally the best player in his role in the AFL, and furthermore the best in the last 4 years.

He kicked 2.65 goals per game when played as a pure forward. Now he's playing as a ruck/forward and still kicking 1.8 goals per game, which is nearly twice as many goals as the next best ruck/forward in the league.

Twelve of his 28 goals this season have come from 11 games.

But here’s the issue for many: He’s a solid — at best — forward-ruckman being paid between $700,000 and $800,000 per season.

But he's not. He's the best forward-ruckman in the league, and the numbers clearly show that.

A lot of people are denigrating Tippett expecting him to kick 60 goals a year while also playing in the ruck. That's just impossible.

If I were the Swans, I would hope he is the best ruck/forward in the league by a long measure. He sure is the highest paid.

Would you really pass an opportunity to become a multimillionaire and winning most weeks for an extra few hundred thousand and losing every week?
I absolutely would. It's a job. Sure winning is nice, but these guys have an average working life of a few years (at most about 20 but very few go that long) and most have very little in the way of marketable skills outside of footy. They are trying to provide as well as they can for themselves and their families. I don't begrudge any professional athlete who moves for more money.

There are not many good FWD rucks in the comp, so he kinda wins by default.
Sydney no doubt would have wanted more out of him. Not only talking about this year.

If Sydney wanted more out of him they would play him as a permanent forward. He kicked 2.65 goals a game in that position until he was moved into the ruck this year.

He's head and shoulders better than anyone in the league at that position - which is coincidentally the hardest position on the field to fill. Only about 3 teams have a forward/ruck that's even marginally useful. Tippett is nearly twice as good as the next best forward/ruck - David Hale.

So you think he has been worth every penny since crossing to the swans? He has been a disapointment in comparison to what they are paying him.

So you think he has been worth every penny since crossing to the swans?

Yes? He's clearly one of the best players in the competition. Nobody else in the AFL can do what he does. He plays the same role for Sydney that Clarke or Griffin plays for us. And he's kicked as many goals per game as Pavlich has this year while playing that role.

So, just to recap, Tippett has kicked the same amount of goals per game as Pavlich this year, while also averaging nearly 16 hitouts per game.

In years previous when he hasn't rucked and has played as a forward only, he's averaged 2.65 goals per game, which would put him in the top 4 in the AFL this year behind Josh Kennedy, Jeremy Cameron and Buddy Franklin.

He wouldn't be in the top 100

I don't think they'd regret getting Tippett and Buddy at all before the AFL cut the COLA and imposed trade sanctions.

Not true. Any team would take Tippett if they could fit him under the cap.

We just found Tippett's mum

That someone else using stats to show how effective he is can be turned to show how inconsistent he is too.

16 games, 28 goals and 13 came from four games. My mental maths was off a bit before.

Pavlich's stats would be pretty similar. 16 of his 32 goals this year have come from 4 games. He's also gone goalless 5 times. That's how kicking goals works. You tend to kick more of them when your team is winning.

Tippett has only gone goalless twice this year for his 28 goals, and he's also had 245 hitouts.
