Chris Masten biting allegation

I'm still in shock that a player can be found guilty of biting and only receive a 2 match suspension. The most bizarre and inadequate penalty imposed by the tribunal in recent memory. Unbelievable decision. Typical of the AFL to downplay any possible controversy and sweep the unsavoury stuff under the rug.

I'm of the school of the opinion that Masten should've been rubbed out for the remainder of the season.

He is very lucky the "biased Victorian media" fixed their gun sights squarely on James Hird after the weekend. It mostly went under the radar due to the Hird business. Had they beaten up the biting incident like they did the Brian Lake choke on Petrie then Masten would be out for 7 or 8 matches.
I'm shocked to be reading this (sorry, need to be active in the HTB Asada thread to appreciate this). Regardless what "school" you are in, unless you were privy to the whole tribunal deliberation then you have no idea behind the reasoning.

i am surprised the West Australian and Channel eagle have not appealed on behalf of the eagles. Good result to see Masten labelled a biter for life. though the eagle supporters will miss those out of bounds kicking efforts from Chris

Dunno...he might get remembered for how a bite becomes biting when someone rams his forearm in your mouth.

Might be time to take your own advice.

The head CH 7 'journo' was leading the calls for 6 weeks. They have zero interest in any side out of Vic.

Masto should send Hodgey some flowers. While the Vic media doesn't seem interested in a witch hunt, the footy fans from all over have certainly moved on from the Suban allegation.

Wingards said this about Hodge after the game:

"I've got the utmost respect for 'Hodgey', he's one of the greats of the game. It was just one of those things. I was a bit clumsy myself and obviously he just followed through. That's the way he plays – he's a hard player, and I've got so much respect for him. It's just one of those unfortunate things. You just get hit and you've just got to take it and wear it. "

Hodge is very lucky that he bumped Wingard and not Nick Suban.

Only complete pieces of s**t bite people anywhere let alone on a footy field and Suban quite rightly pointed it out straight away to the umpire. Get over it, I bet if it happened to West Coast player, yourself trying to play a game of footy or if you have any one of you kids you would be exactly the same.

I don't think so badly of Masten because Suban's arm was, in the tussle, forced into his mouth. There are clearly two possibilities:
1) Masten deliberately bit Suban.
2) Masten involuntarily bit Suban due to the reflex action described by the Eagles expert witness.

BTW, only complete pieces of s**t king hit people with an elbow behind play.

a complete imbecile or perhaps a specialist dental surgeon (Robert Delcanho)

Who was forced to admit under questioning that
a) He was an eagles member and therefore could NOT be regarded as a unbiased witness
b) he didn't know whether hannibal mastiff's mouth was open or closed during the tussle and therefore the so called 'involuntary bite' could even have occurred.

Also, mastiff denied 'biting' but admitted 'closing his mouth on Suban's arm several times' during one of the ever changing explanations. If you can pick the difference I'd be amazed.

If the eagles are so keen on the 'players code' perhaps we could hear some sort of condemnation for Chick's lies about Josh Carr when Carr was off the field.

Seems the hypocrisy at west coast as as rampant as the apologists making up stuff to pretend a dog act didn't occur.

Grow a pair, apologise and move on.

I guess the issue is that a lot of these posters probably were still in Kindy in 2007 and don't know of Chick getting caught out in a deliberate lie ;)!!

Here's a photo of specialist dental surgeon Robert Delcanho turning up to the tribunal.

Am I the only non-Eagle to think this decision was a disgrace? Should not have been suspended at all.

Knee jerk reaction (involuntary).
