Perhaps, but this game, and the one in which Jimmy kicked the point, are worth it just for the dismay of Hawthorn Supporters who thought they had it won.

From 6 minutes in....final quarter v Collingwood....Round 10 1989

What more can you say?

It was a great win

However one of Geelongs best wins ( given the calibre of the opposition ) would have to be the home win 95 against the West Coast Eagles . The 1st times the teams had met since the Eagles flogged the Cats by 86 points in the previous years GF

At half time it was about level - then in the 3rd qtr Geelong kicked something like 8 goals 8 behinds - and the Eagles didnt score - and then in last qtr just kept piling on the goals for a huge win

Of course Gary Ayres gets no credit for that victory( from big footy posters) - even though it was one of Geelongs best and most enjoyable wins in the last 20 years

Yep, and Ablett kicked 5 of them in that quarter.

Great call, it was an awesome win. It meant a lot.

What a great vid, brought back a lot of memories, watched the whole thing ..

the Prez with two terrific grabs up forward at around 5m25s and then again at 5m 55s :thumbsu: seemed to play back, a la 89 GF, in the last quarter and looked good.

Mark Bos solid as a rock as per usual, toweled Michael Christian up, as you'd expect. A bloke with Bos' skill set could probably get a game today; defensively excellent, and quick in getting a disposal off under pressure, too.

Bruns always a great competitor.

Bruns was even better before the 'Matthews incident'

Yeah Bos retired after the 1989 Grand final, and had tons of good footy left in him. Lindner played the same position as Ablett - swapping between wing and half forward flank.

Agreed Bos had good footy left in him. Watching him again in that clip was a timely reminder (to my fading memory!) as to just how good he was. Went back-to-back B&F's of course which speaks volumes (even though we were a fairly ordinary unit around that time).

Bruce Lindner was hugely exciting, I think it was 1987 when he first started showing Geelong what he was capable of after an injury-riddled couple of seasons after recruitment. Had all the tricks, a lot of fun to watch.

Meh I'm sick of focusing on just these two games. There were so many other classic games during the streak. Can we focus on some of those as many were better games. They just didn't involve a kick after the siren.
Sure.

Time for a blowout in one of Geelong's most comprehensive wins in its history.

Geelong 8.3.51 20.4.124 28.8.176 37.11.233
Melbourne 0.3.3 1.4.10 5.4.34 7.5.47

Wasn't at this game but remember listening to it on the radio and being disappointed in the fact we didn't break the record for biggest margin in a single game. Instead we equaled the amount of goals and was the 2nd (?) highest margin.

Correct on both, we would have beaten the record but the ground was pitch black from about 5 minutes left.
If we had lights we would have kicked 39 goals.
