After the siren sounded at the end of the 1st Elimination Final, Collingwood fans stood shocked, unsure of how to react to their sides' loss to Port Adelaide, a developing team never expected to make finals. After the match, coach Nathan Buckley said anyone holding onto the past glory of 2010 can now well and truly let go because it is now a new era.

Club stalwarts like Alan Didak, Heath Shaw and Dale Thomas left while recent acquisitions Andrew Krakouer, Darren Jolly and Jordon Russell were delisted among the biggest list changes in the league. The Pies brought in a few fresh faces in Taylor Adams, Jesse White and Patrick Karnezis and four young draftees to try and push themselves back up the ladder.

Scott Pendlebury was made captain with Dayne Beams, Harry O'Brien, Travis Cloke and Nick Maxwell again named in the leadership group. It was the beginning of something special at the Pies.

Note: I have only done the Pies 2014 lists so therefore I won't be trading in any players, only trading for picks.

Collingwood faced off against Brisbane in the opening NAB Cup match with new faces Taylor Adams, Jesse White, Patrick Karnezis Tom Langdon, Matt Scharenberg and Jonathan Marsh all in the team. After a slow start, the Pies regained momentum to lead by 28 points at half time. Jesse White had 20 disposals and four goals by the main break in a dominant display, but injuries to Steele Sidebottom and Dayne Beams were a concern.

After the main break it was like the injuries hardly affected them, running out huge 65 point winners as Jesse White booted six goals, one of 11 goal scorers for the Pies. White and Scott Pendlebury both had 25 disposals while Matt Scharenberg was handy with 21 disposals, seven marks and two goals off a half back flank and through the middle. Despite the huge margin, Collingwood only had five more scoring shots.

Collingwood 25.14 (164) defeated Brisbane 13.21 (99)

Goals: White (6), Marsh (3), Macaffer (3), Cloke (3), Witts (2), Adams (2), Scharenberg (2), Elliot, Blair, Goldsack, Grundy.

Collingwood took on North Melbourne in the second round of the NAB Cup in wet conditions minus Steele Sidebottom and Dayne Beams. With Dane Swan and Luke Ball still rested, they looked to Nathan Freeman and Ben Sinclair as inclusions. The first half was a tight affair with the Pies being inaccurate, booting just five goals from 16 scoring shots and led by just nine points despite having nine more scoring shots. Freeman had 13 disposals off a wing, only behind Travis Cloke with 14. Scott Pendlebury and Jesse White had two goals each at the main break.

After the break, Collingwood kicked the opening three goals to look like they were going to run away with it. But for the next 40 minutes it was an entertaining contest with North Melbourne drawing level twice before the Pies eventually shook them off and kicked the last four goals of the game to win by 24 points. Nathan Freeman was great on debut with 23 touches while both Travis Cloke and Jesse White were strong up forward.

Collingwood 15.12 (102) defeated North Melbourne 12.6 (78)

Goals: White (3), Pendlebury (3), Cloke (2), Reid, Marsh,. Williams, Sinclair, Macaffer, Young, Karnezis.
High Possies: Cloke (27), Freeman (23), Young (20), White (20), Pendlebury (20)
Injuries: Nil.

Collingwood found themselves battling against a much more experienced Essendon side, down by 15 points at the main break. Despite having Dane Swan and Luke Ball back in, the Pies couldn't seem to stop the rush of Essendon goals with the wind in the second quarter. Brodie Grundy was the most impressive with 12 disposals and 13 hitouts while Cloke, Marsh, White and Reid all had ten disposals.

At the end of the match it wasn't any better as the Bombers booted nine goals to five in the second half to run away with the match. Despite Brodie Grundy being solid in the ruck and White providing a target up forward, there wasn't too much to write home about for the Pies.

Collingwood 13.9 (87) defeated by Essendon 19.16 (130)

Goals: White (3), Cloke (2), Swan (2), Reid, Macaffer, Pendlebury, Thomas, Young, Adams.
High Possies: Cloke (22), Swan (21)
Injuries: Jonathan Marsh - Twisted Ankle (1)
Reports: Nil.

Taylor Adams breaks collarbone in final hit out

131024_adams300.jpg

New Collingwood recruit Taylor Adams has broken his collarbone in the final hit out before the regular season, meaning he joins other midfielders Dayne Beams and Steele Sidebottom on the sidelines. He is expected to miss seven weeks, with fitness staff hoping he can be back to his best by mid-season. Collingwood are training hard in preparation for the start of the 2014 season.

Collingwood came into round one against Fremantle full of confidence that its young side could get the job done. New Lions recruit Patrick Karnezis didn't take long to fit it, kicking the opening goal of the match in the opening few minutes. At half time, Collingwood had managed to hold onto a narrow 16 point lead. Clinton Young had 12 disposals while Luke Ball was sensational with 16 disposals and five marks. Brdy Grundy had 13 hitouts to go with his eight disposals. Nathan Freeman was ok with four disposals while Matt Scharenberg had seven. The big concern was the injury to Jarryd Blair in the first quarter.

The second half almost mirrored the first, with the Pies managing to hold onto a 19 point win but never looked safe. Matt Scharenberg broke his hand in a disappointing result on debut after 15 disposals, two marks and a goal. Nathan Freeman managed 14 disposals, three marks and kicked the final goal of the game just on the siren. It was Luke Ball who was the best though with 26 disposals, six marks four clearances and two goals. The Pies managed to have 14 individual goal scorers and surprisingly, one of them wasn't Cloke.

Collingwood 17.9 (111) defeated Fremantle 13.14 (92)

ROUND 1 -THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY

The Good - Brodie Grundy

It's hard to believe this kid has just played his eighth senior game. He collected 22 disposals, had 20 hit outs and took ten marks. It will be scary when he reaches his full potential because he could very well be one of the elite rucks of the competition.

The Bad - Scott Pendlebury

Having Pendlebury in the bad is like LeBron James not scoring over 20 points a game. He had just eight disposals and three marks in his worst performance of his career. Unfortunately it was his first as captain which makes it worse. He's really determined to make up for it next week.

The Ugly - Injuries

Injuries to Jarryd Blair and Matt Scharenberg have again thrown the team out as we have a number of players in rehab. We'll shuffle the side around and bring in some fresh faces to take on Brisbane.

Collingwood's season of hope came crashing to reality, going down to the Brisbane Lions by 42 points. A terrible first half saw them boot just two goals to Brisbane's nine to trail by 47 points at the main break. Luckily an improved second half saw 10 goals to seven scored in favour of the Pies as the Lions inaccuracy cost them a huge win. Again the midfield didn't do enough for Collingwood as it was left up to the second tier players to try and ignite them. Brodie Grundy was against amongst the best with 17 disposals, 17 hitouts, eight marks and a goal.

Collingwood 12.6 (78) defeated by Brisbane 16.24 (120)

ROUND 2 -THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY

The Good - Brodie Grundy

For the second week in a row, the kid earns his place in "the good" chart. He was impressive with 17 disposals, 17 hitouts, eight marks and a goal and leads the best and fairest as it stands.

The Bad - Midfield

The midfield was shocking and despite breaking even with clearances, they were cut up on the rebound and allowed too many inside 50s. Numbers wise they were slaughtered and no doubt changes will be made.

The Ugly - The first half

Collingwood was lifeless and looked all out at sea early on with only two goals in the first half. The second half covered up some serious issues.
