The slow burn of reducing 12 teams to 8 is now over and the competition becomes vaguely interesting.

I think Argentina play Colombia in what will be the tie of the round. Neither in any form but winner should be favourites.

Chile through. Two blokes sent off for Uruguay.

Uruguay were never gonna defend their title though, not without Suarez.

Who was the other sent off? Presumably with Cavani sent off Hernandez got a decent run?

After all that, Chile win 1-0, and play either Bolivia or Peru, so almost a guaranteed final spot for Chile.

Jara grabbed Suarez by the balls last year while competing for a corner, pretty sure Suarez head butted him in response. This guy is an absolute pest. Haha if Suarez gets 9 months for biting what do they hit this multiple time sex offender with?
With that kind of history, jail would be nirvana for him

Suarez punched him in response. Considering it is Suarez it was a very restrained reaction!!

Fred is shocking.....how he gets a game is beyond me.
You obviously don't watch much Brazilian football. He was top goalscorer in the league last season after being harshly blamed for Brazil's world cup exit. (Not sure how you can blame a striker in a 7-1 loss). Also joint golden boot winner in the Confederations cup with 5 goals including two in the final against Spain. He still dominates for Fluminense today and is the only Seleção player from that semi-final who plays in the domestic league. After being branded the scapegoat you have to pay him some respect for staying and facing his critics when he could've been forgiven for taking his career elsewhere.

Why would I. It's s**t and Fred is s**t.

What a ridiculous little creep that bloke is. Cavani should have nutted him.

unfortunately. What a horrible team.

Tournament is now starting to get interesting after a sleepy start. Chile far from convincing over Uruguay last night but have the weaker semi-final opponent in Peru who just beat Bolivia 3-1. Flamengo's new signing and top scorer of the last tournament Paolo Guerrero impressed scoring all three goals. You would expect Chile to secure their first final appearance since 1987, where they lost 1-0 to Uruguay.

Neymar-less Brazil have a tricky assignment against Paraguay Saturday night, the 2011 finalists are one of three undefeated teams left in the tournament. Will be interesting to see whether Dunga turns to Robinho again who was instrumental in the victory against Venezuela. Dunga has won 12 of his 13 matches since taking over after the World Cup.

Tata Martino's Argentina have been far from convincing in wins over Jamaica and Uruguay, as well as squandering a 2-0 lead against Paraguay. Messi has looked sluggish and unbelievably hasn't scored in the knock-out phase of an international tournament since 2007. Colombia, who managed just one goal in the group stage, are more than capable of causing an upset and will look to Falcao and Rodriguez to exploit Argentina's vulnerable defence.

Would love to see the Brazil v Argentina clash we were denied at the World Cup with both managers eager to secure silverware early in their tenure before the qualifying campaign for Russia kicks off in October.
