Saw this on the news tonight and thought it could become a real game changer for the Lions. The plans for the Cross River Rail project include an underground railway station called the Gabba Station that connects to some of the major stations like Roma Street. The plans appear to show it'll be just 500 metres from the stadium. This should result in the club being less reliant on buses to get patrons to games. What do you think of the project?

There currently is a train stop at South bank that isn't that too much further then the predicted underground one thus personally couldn't see it making that much more of a difference.

Is it possible that calling it 'The Gabba Station' would trick people into thinking it is a better transport option than Southbank? 500 metres vs 1.5kms is a decrease of 66% in walking distance so it might work on some people.

500m is a stretch. It's only a piddle longer than the current busway station. More accurate map.

The bus way works really well IMO given it's all (or near enough) dedicated bus roads into the city from the Gabba. I don't think this will change it a whole lot.

Any increase to public transportation availability is definitely helpful in increasing crowds.

For a long time a major gripe I have had with the Gabba is the poor facilities and experience outside of the ground. Being surrounded by main arterial roads means that the “walk to ground” and pre-game experience is terrible when comparing to the MCG and Adelaide Oval.

It would cost a small fortune but I would love to see both Main St and Stanley St next to the ground go underground.

Campbell Newman like tunnels maybe we can drop some hints through our #1 ticket holder
