yeah, had a few beers so decided to go and play for an hour or so without $250 before i drove home. nek minnit...

just checked online and i earned 7 credits yesterday. unfortunately i assume silver parking is the same as bronze without the necessity to validate at the poker room?

i also tried checking on one of those VIK things, and whilst i was in the queue i could see someone else checking their t "player activity report" which i assume would tell them what their average bet/turnover etc is. however for some reason i couldn't find the option to do it on the machine (or online just now) and people were getting pretty restless behind me so i gave up.

wouldn't mind just grinding upto gold for the underground parking, ability to access teak.

the activity statement is only for pokies theyre required by law to track all your pokie play so you know what you win/lose it wont tell you anything about table games though

7 credits is a great result, like I said volume is everything and spending that many hours there will produce good credits

yeah you wont need to validate for the free parking its just an unlimited ticket now, sometimes underground will be gold and above only and sometimes silver and above only but usually especially weeknights its open to anyone

you'll have silver and your 7 credits from now until end of march so between now and then you can go for gold and then on march you'll keep whatever level you are for another 6 months but your credits will reset and you'll start again to get silver/gold etc

Hadn't been to Crown for a couple months. Thought I'd grab some pizza. Those who can recall, they used to have Pizza Head with big fat quarter slices. That went when Crown decided to further Asian-ise the eateries (Burger Edge also went).

So we're left with that over-priced Italian place. I'd had a slice or two in the past there, nothing special, but I'm not overly fussy. Expensive though, most slices were $6.90.

Well now it's a mere $9.90 for a single ******* slice of pizza!!! $9.90 for what is really a fairly shitty slice of pizza.

It's a ******* joke.

My one regret of not playing much poker in Melbourne before the last few years have been the stories of various awesome eateries that have been closed or changed.

Also, I know its fairly standard in most casino's and reasonably controlled markets but Im also preparing to light a lot of money on fire on soft drinks the next few weeks as well.

Over here its $4.50 for a 390ml which is a joke.

you'll save 50c. 390ml is $4.

there is a dude in the poker room now walking around with menus of three associated eateries upstairs. you can order from the menu and he'll arrange to have it delivered to your table.

prices are apparently extortionate.

i also agree that those pizza slices in the upstairs food court are terrible. the dough is so sugary it's basically cake. wouldn't pay $2 for it.

For cheaper soft drinks, there's a 7-Eleven at the corner of Spencer St and Flinders St (eg. 2x600mL for $5.50). Also some Coles Express outlets in the CBD, one or two on Spencer St.

Well done to him. I think i read he took a big hit at some stage with about 6 left with A6 vs Q10 and the villain turned a Q

Will he come in and tell us or will he keep to himself? ;)

Was it a qualifiers only thing?

It would be the 2nd biggest cash i've seen on these boards from someone who posts here (behind Judds last year at the Millions)

Or am i missing someone?

Ash12 may have a bigger one than me, I'm not sure of his exact amount but he has one around mine from ANZPT melb a couple years ago

Hey guys,

Was a good day absolutely destroyed the final table was playing super aggro which is what you have to do with those structures. JuddsABlue I qualified via a sat, which was $120. It's probably the softest $1200 tournament you will ever play, just its hard to navigate the mine field which i did then proceeded to run good at the right times coupled with playing well.

The thing I'm most excited about is it gives me some wiggle room for USA/Vegas in June & also I get to play in the Aussie Millions main next year which was part of the package.

Notable Hands -

145 Players left 110/145 Blinds 4/8k I had 99k folded to me on the btn I shoved A4o the SB folded BB proceeded to tank for 3 minutes then call off with AKs which tilted me the most out of the whole tourney, I flop a 4 then hold for 200k.

33 players left 24/33 blinds 25/50k I had 675k folded to me in MP I jam with 55, guy behind snap calls rest fold rolls AA.

Window 5 and hold on for 1.4m

6 left blinds 150/300k 3m folds to me on the button I shove K10o BB snaps AA

flop QJ9

But I was picking up soo many uncontested chips that I was bound to get caught.

Good effort. I've also binked (a minor) APL thing for a Vegas package and as you say, the fields are very soft, though as you say it is a minefield because of the randomness of a lot of the play and the turbo structure. The only way to get into it for a good player is to satelite into it, as to buy into it you had to win the BI's worth of APL prizemoney in the previous 12 months.

great stuff

with the buyin what i meant was is it possible to directly buy in? I wanted to play it but because Crown didnt have it on their tournament schedule I figured the only way to get in it was to play through the APL circuit thing

If I could walk up and pay cash then I wouldve played for sure but I couldnt find any info on it at all and I didnt want to drive in to Crown to find out I couldnt or it was held somewhere else

Have you been to Vegas before?

ah ok so I couldnt just pay cash, I'd need to play APL events?

Have you been to Vegas before?

Pretty much as Matt said.

No, haven't been to Vegas before. The event I binked was a pro-open thing in Sydney, think its run every two months or something? (I live in regional NSW, am closer to Melbourne, so have only played it 3 times) Its the most top heavy tournament I've ever played, as second basically gets nothing - first is worth something like 17/18k (paid flights/accom/ticket into the ME) and second gets under 2k with most of that made up of tickets to other APL events.

Its roughly equivalent to a hyper turbo online in terms of structure. When I won all the chips I had something like 12 BB and roughly speaking (apart from binking/fading in the right spots) its a a fairly easy field to negotiate, and I would imagine the APL ME wouldn't be that much tougher given professional/semi-professional players are shut out from playing it (I have played a single APL ME on the Gold Coast). The pro opens/APL ME I've played would be what I would imagine playing in the year 2004 would be if you had a time machine.

Thus if you ever get the chance to satelite into an APL ME its well worth your while to do so - I left my run at it this year too late, and only tried a single satelite in Albury the week before (which obv I didn't get) and I don't play pub poker by and large so couldn't buy in. Having said all that I don't mean to demean Matt's success as it is still no easy feat negotiating a field as random as an APL one. You see some real head-scratching play that basically make no logical sense on any sort of level, and sometimes that randomness stacks you.

Not sure when the next APL ME is though I'm pretty sure I recall they run them about twice a year? Well worth looking out for.

Just talked to a mate who played it, he was pissed of the play was 11 handed (!!).

He said by and large the players were (as usual) awful. Some hands he described: older player who hadn't played a hand for two hours opens to 7 X, gets 4 callers, flop is Axx rainbow, older player ends up stacking one opponent with an obvious top set that improved to a FH on the river. Opponent had mid pair on the flop. Next hand same older guy opens to 7 X, 2 callers, flop is Kxx, bets same amount as first hand on the flop into a smaller pot and ends up stacking another player with a set of kings, opponent shoved flop with a double redraw, no pair. Older player ends up cashing in the event.

They ran 11 handed tournaments for the last series I was there for that wasn't the Aussie Millions (cant remember exactly, might have been APPT) so that isn't a big drama, congrats to Matty for taking it down.

A number of good players I know of were trying very hard to find a way into the tournament anyway they could, not sure if they got to play or not.

Apologies if I gave the wrong impression - not knocking Matt for the win, its fantastic - this board has some players with excellent credentials behind them in terms of results and I'm the last person who could criticise anyone in poker. I think Matt would agree however that the standard of an APL event by and large isn't that high and for this reason these events are worth playing - you still have to make the right moves and fade/bink in the right spots but overall you have a much better chance to run deep if you have a skill edge on the field, clearly Matt had this edge on the rest of the players he was up against (ie his description of the FT play) and hence the reason he won it.
