Probably think that maybe Joyce playing for his Crows future in the finals and disappointed Ellis Yeoman
did not do enough to stay in league team.
I know poor draft but not great result from Rendalls last draft with only Kerridge playing more than a handful of SANFL games.
But looks like Laird as a rookie was a great pick up.

Anyone know if the Norwood vs Crows reserves game is going ahead?

Last I heard no, Norwood to have an internal trial with all three grades (all of whom finished Minor Premiers). Presumably Grigg and Brown are running around in that.

Kind of annoying for guys like Lynch, Lyons, Otten, McKernan, Jenkins, Martin, Jaensch who would all like to press their claims (assuming the Crows can go further).

Johnston has had a bloody good year in the SANFL, has kicked plenty of goals. Unlucky not to get more games really. You'd think if Tip leaves he'd get more opportunity next year.

Laird and Crouch have been outstanding this year too.

Kerridge has been alright, the other first year draftees have been average, although Grigg hasn't had as much league time as he deserved, has been dominating in the reserves.

Ellis-Yolman and Joyce were always going to struggle to be consistent league players this year. Ellis-Yolman has the talent, but will take a couple of preseasons to work off the puppyfat and develop the maturity to be a genuine AFL player. He's a bit like Armstrong was, tuck him away for a couple of years, let him develop at his own pace and in a couple of years time he should start pushing for a spot in our AFL side. Joyce had injuries all through last year which effected his preseason, was going to take time to get up to speed again. Watch him next year, from what I saw in the preseason has a bit of the Rory Sloane's about him, without the long, flowing golden locks.

It really isn't the end of the world for 1st year draftees to be spending time in the Ressies, there's a reason why these guys got drafted later in the draft. When you're drafting beyond about pick 30, the guys available are either ready to go, but lacking in talent, or have talent but will take time. We're at a point in our list management where we can afford to give these guys a little bit of time to develop. Next year we will have a good group of at least 30 players who will be more than capable of playing AFL, we don't need to be cutting them in favour of guys who could potentially play straight away.

Great post James, I feel Mitch Griggh is also in this category although the reasons for his late elevation to league seem a bit mysterious. Looks to be on his way now though.

Grigg's a tough one and I suspect if he were at any other SANFL side he would have played league all season. There was clearly something Basset saw in his game that required fixing or addressing and considering Norwood's dominance Basset had no need to play him in the seniors whilst he addressed this.

The other Mitch Grigg issue is that he was playing Seniors when he was 16. The possibility that he has gone backwards is obviously concerning.

There was always a worry that he would be a bit of a Jace Bode clone, although I think we've seen some reasonable improvement this year. He has a real weapon in his kicking so he's worth persevering with, at least for another year.

Sounds like Knights had another ripper game. Think he can play a good role next year for us.
Coburg need a forward flanker?

Nah, reckon he'll be a good pick up. Needs a decent preseason and a change of scenery.
