2nds Crows in the SANFL Round 7

North won! :D

Both teams only had 1 on the bench for a lot of the game so I guess that explains players slowing down. In no order:

Craig - not his best game, but rucked quite well. Should be able to use his athleticism to be better around the ground, but not today.

Johnston - as I said before, usually very good when he gets it but he dropped a few marks today. Smart and skilled, but not a contested marker. Kicked a huge goal in the last. Forward all day.

Martin - loads of possessions as normal, but got less damaging as the game went on. One of Sturt's best though. Kicked 3.

McIntyre - only appeared for the 2nd half but he impressed me during it. Helped spark Sturt's comeback.

Kerridge - solid game. Got the job tagging Allan during he 2nd half and kept him to only 13 touches (after 24 in the 1st half) although this is partly because Allan was dead on his feet by the end.

Jenkins - kicked 4 and looked very imposing as a giant full forward, but didn't actually take many grabs which was disappointing.

Tambling - injured half way through the first. My guess is a bad corkie because he was still walking around after the game, but with a limp.

Johnston forward all day because Alleway is out suspended. When he's got it he's been decent but he's dropped a few marks that he should've taken.

Kerridge has been solid. He's tagging Allan atm which is a tough ask for anybody.
I would draft Allen from Nth Adelaide , who cares what his body looks like or if he doesnt look like a footballer( look at Dane Swan)as every week he nearly gets 40 possessions .
Great game by Brodie Martin. Crows play him in the midlle please .
Rory Laird will be a gun, my prediction.

All our list neads now is a Toumpas and a Kennedy type and a couple of good tall running defenders and we will be close to a perfect list.

Thought Jenkins was by far the best of the Crows at Unley today. Yes he dropped 2 marks but took 5, all contested, kicked 4 goals and was a real presence in the forward lines. Having said that Sturt looked better when he was in the ruck so.......

Brodie got the ball a lot and kicked 3 but was a bit disappointing for mine. Too many handballs to the wrong option.

I think Tambling did an ankle in the 1st qtr and only went back on when Stephens was off with a knee. Was put at full forward and couldn't lead at all.

Johnston had a good first half but was quiet after half time.

Kerridge was very ordinary. Worst I have seen him play for Sturt. If he was tagging Allen he did a poor job as Allen had 37 disposals. Woudnt be surprised if he found himself in the Maggoos if he continues on that form.

Oh and back to Jenkins one of the dropped marks bounced off his chest and he followed up and tackled 2 North players.

Grigg, Ellis-Yeoman and Dowdell were namds in the best players for their respective reserves sides in today's paper.

I also noticed Stefan Jarman made the best players for the Roosters U 18 team. They mentioned him him on the ABC last week.

Has anybody seen him play? As our first potential Father/Son pick I'm keen to see how he goes.

lairdy was ****ing superb. absolutely love him. had a hand in most things. expect him to play for the rest of the season

Such a balanced footballer, bloody small but really clean with everything he does. Knows where the goals are and is a pretty good kick.
NFGKizza I think Lairds inclusion into our midfield has really helped the team thrive. That extra bit of class around the stoppages has improved us immeasurably.

Crouch must be due back soon which will also help but he needs to get a left foot if he's going to be elite. Haven't seen him once kick with his opposite side.
Still he has some talent.
PS Daniel Caire really should be looked at seriously to be drafted.

Jenkins could very well make his debut if Sando sticks to a second ruck.

Drummond - care to explain your Laird comment?

P.S. Grigg was average again tonight.
Made the best players (in a side that clocked up a 80 point win), which means that he's impressed the coaching staff. Because 'best players' in the lower grades are picked by the club, they're a fair indication of how a player's going in the club's eyes and how close or far they are from promotion. They're obviously hard markers of Mitch, b/c Fri was only the 2nd time in 5 games that he's made the best players. He'll need to improve on that to push hard for a league spot.

Mind you, he never gets picked until the final straight anyway. He seems to be regarded as an end-of-year specialist. He first played for Norwood league as a 16yo near the back end of 2009. Since then, he's played just a total of 8 league games. But the amazing things are:
  1. he's played in every year (bar not 2012 yet), with no more than 4 games in any given year
  2. all bar one of those 8 games, has been in late August or later.
It's like he's an expert finisher, uninterested in dealing with the trivia of Apr/May/June.

If you're small, which Laird most definitely is, you need to either be extremely quick or extremely skilled. He's neither. He's James Ezard.
Drummond , watch his U18 highlights on Youtube real closely . Is there something about him thim that makes you think he moves like Graham Johncock, maybe the kicking action and the way he reads the ball in the air and his marks. Maybe take a look at this highlights package in this link below .

he's really, really classy, that's what's stuck with me. he's consistently getting 15 or so touches a game after only making his league debut 6 weeks ago. his game against port was great, set up so many plays off half back/wing, has a fair bit of pace, and will hit the target probably 9/10. also got a big kick and knows where the goals are when he decided to play attacking football. way too early to make a call on his future when he still has so, so much development to go. but he's started off well. cant wait to see how he goes against top class opposition on friday.

He'll be on our senior list next season. Has a lot of talent, will be the type to play on players like Ballantyne/Betts maybe even Cyril.

Your very harsh comparing him to Ezard.
