Davis Cup- Australia vs Great Britain

I was actually happy with the way Bernie played in those first two sets. Pretty much shows what I think of Tomic getting higher in the rankings. Honestly, he might get to around 10-15 but I wouldn't be surprised if entering the top 20 next week is his peak

Tomic is having a very good year. I know he got his arse handed to him in the end, but he is finding more and more mental resolve with his game. Probably an unpopular opinion, but I actually love his very unique and passive game style with all the variation of pace, height and spin. You get some players like Ferrer who look like they are fighting for their lives every point, and then you have Tomic at the other end of the spectrum who keeps things minimalistic. He is young still too.

Just a bit worried about his service action. Its an effective serve, probably his strength, but there is no internal shoulder rotation or that classic trophy pose - his back elbow is higher than his back shoulder and he muscles his serve a lot. Could be a recipe for shoulder impingement down the track.

Watched a bit of DC over the weekend and was also impressed with all four players. I knew Andy would win in straight sets last night but what I wanted to see was Bernie compete and he did compete for two sets. Maybe not having his dad around is good for Bernie in the right environment.

I know Andy popularises people but I love him, love his passion.

I dont mind Tomic's game but I think he needs to work on his fitness and be more consistent. Anyway it was good to see him play well, we all knew Murray would win.

I kinda of wish Nick K was playing.

Like I said before the Tomic match, the only person beating Murray in that slow a hard court was djokovic and wawrinka if he was in. Bernard played pretty well for 2 sets.

Well done by the Scottish team, Andy had a brilliant weekend.

wonder who will be the doubles pairing for davis cup next year with lleyton gone. peers is top 10 but has been overlooked.

Kokk plays doubles (did well with Kyrigos), so the odds are probably him unless we are carrying 2 doubles specialists.

Lleyton is groomed to be the next DC captain so he's gone as a player but he will call the shots not Wally.

It's gotta be Peers for sure...By far & away our best doubles player...Maybe Groth or Kokk to partner him depending on form...Not sure who is better at doubles between the two? Either one could be the back up singles player too...Have to have a specialist doubles guy in there now, like The Brits have with Jamie Murray...We all know how important the doubles is in a Davis Cup tie!

The draw for next year is actually on Thursday morning in Chile...The Aussies are seeded 8 this time, which helps.

If Masur is still captain (which I think is a real possibility) I very much struggle to see him naming Peers. He was asked about his non-selection the other day and he said that (1) he's had to use a lot of singles players this year and he loves the versatility picking four singles specialists gives; and (2) he values team chemistry moreso than 'ability' in doubles. Mentioned that it would be ideal for Peers to develop some chemistry with the other Australian options as he wanted a doubles pairing that had experience working/playing with each other.

I think in order to be selected he'll need to partner up with Kokkinakis or Groth on a permanent basis next year, which, frankly, I believe is extremely unlikely. Otherwise Kok and Groth will be our doubles pairing.

That's assuming that Bernie and Kyrgios are both available for the same tie. Peers will get a run if either are on the outs. The next singles player would be Millman? Surely he'd have to pick a doubles specialist before him in that scenario.

Yeah that would be so disappointing. It's one of the things I hate about the US Open compared to the other slams.

There's been no mention yet but i'll bet you London to a brick it will be played on grass

Not necessairly, no Lleyton changes things.
