any bid after pick 18 has 197 pt reduction + any bid after pick 56 is free.....

http://www.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL Tenant/AFL/Files/Father-son-bidding-system.pdf

Guess at how the bid system might happen

Callum Mills - Pick 3 (bid) - Sydney owe 1,787 pts (pick 33=563)(pick 36=502)(pick 37=483) these 3 picks goto end of draft, (pick 44=362 - 239) pick 44 drops to pick 61..... Sydney have Picks 54, 61, 69 plus 3 picks at the end of the draft
Charlie Bance - Pick ???
Jacob Hopper - Pick 4 (bid) - GWS owe 1,627 pts (pick 10=1,395)(pick 33=563 - 232) pick 34 drops to pick 46..... GWS have Picks 43, 46, 52, 54, 57 plus 1 pick at end of draft
Ben Kennedy - Pick 10 (bid) - GWS owe 1,116 pts (pick 43=378)(pick 46=331)(pick 52=246)(pick 54=220 - 161) pick 54 drops to pick 68..... GWS have Picks 57, 68 plus 4 picks at end of draft
Josh Minogue - Pick 30 (bid) - GWS owe 432 pts (pick 57=182)(pick 68=59) GWS still owe 241 pts..... GWS have Picks ...6 at end of draft
Jock Cornell - Pick ???
Ben Keays - Pick 15 (bid) - Brisbane owe 889.6 pts (pick 38=465) (pick 39=446 - 423) pick 39 drops to pick 72..... Brisbane have Picks 40, 41, 42 and 2 at end of draft
Eric Hipwood - Pick 25 (bid) - Brisbane owe 559 pts (pick 40=429) (pick 41=412 - 130) pick 41 drops to pick 50..... Brisbane have Picks 42, 50 and 3 at end of draft
Corey Wagner - Pick ???
Nick Weller - Pick ???
Reuben William - Pick ???
Jack Silvagni - Pick 28 (bid) - Carlton owe 480 pts (pick 59=158) (pick 60=146) Carlton still owe 176 pts. no picks left to trade
Bailey Rice - Pick 27 (bid) - St Kilda owe 506 pts (pick 45= 347) (pick 68=59) St Kilda still owe 100 pts no picks left to trade
Dyson Budarick - Pick ???

Pick 1 Carlton: - Jacob Weitering - Height: 195cm, Weight: 90kg, DOB: 23/11/1997 Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays, Draft Range: 1-10

a lot of people have him going pick 1 and so i must conform with that opinion, but i dont think he is necessarily the best player in the draft, i would say he has top 10 potential and is a KPP so therefore is valued higher, but he has been known to play some ordinary games, in fact i believe Kieran Collins is a better defender than he is (which will rile plenty of feathers), he has been named by some commentators the next "Harry Taylor" and i can see some resemblances of this, he is solid in the air, he has a similar body type to Harry Taylor and when he plays well, he is impressive, which is the reason he seems a lock from a lot of people as pick 1

Pick 2 Brisbane: - Josh Schache - Height: 199cm, Weight: 96kg, DOB: 21/08/1997 Recruited from: Murray Bushrangers, Draft Range: 1-5

Schache is the modern prototype of a KPF, he is tall, great read of the ball in the air and can handle the ball when it hits the ground, If it was up to me, Schache or Francis would be pick 1, Schache is a goal kicking machine, he is overly tall, but seems to have the flexibility to also be able to kick goals in general play, he doesnt rely on the mark-kick-goal routine all the time like some overly tall forwards, this flexibility will ensure he goes high in the draft and seems destined to go at pick 2

Pick 3 Melbourne: - Aaron Francis - Height: 190cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 10/08/1997 Recruited from: West Adelaide, Draft Range: 1-5

If you were to recruit on pure talent, Francis would be the number 1 pick imo, this guy is the closest youngster i've seen to a Luke Hodge/Nat Fyfe type of player, has dominated games as a 3rd tall forward who can kick over 60m goals, as a tall midfielder that wins clearances and as a intercept marking defender, this guy can play in any position except wing and Ruck, he should go at pick 3 imo

Pick 4 Essendon: - Jacob Hopper* - Height: 186cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 06/02/1997 Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels, Draft Range: 4-10

GWS will probably bid here if they have enough points (Picks 10, 34, 43, 53, 55, 58, 63, 64, 65, 70) they will probably lose a couple of picks, if not Essendon will get a tall mid that wins the contested ball in tight, stands up in tackles and can step up when his team needs him, i saw a game where Hopper, grabbed his team by the scruff of the neck and nearly carried them to victory single-handedly, this is why he is rated highly, its not just his footy ability, its his ability to lead and inspire others

Pick 5 Essendon: - Darcy Parish - Height: 181cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 25/07/1997 Recruited from: Geelong Falcons, Draft Range: 4-10

The Vic Country were dominant this year and Parish was one of the reasons for that, good contested ball winner, dislocated a finger and still performed very well, runs all day, very busy type of midfielder and one of the stand-out mids in the draft, Essendon are likely to pick him here at pick 4

Pick 6 Gold Coast: - Callum Mills* - Height: 186cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 04/02/1997 Recruited from: Sydney Academy, Draft Range: 8-20

Skillful midfielder, he is more of a handball receive, link player, than a contested ball winner, he uses the ball well, he might go higher in the draft as clubs might try to make him too expensive for the Swans, if there were no academy ties this is about where he would go imo, with Sydney having Picks 33, 36, 37, 44, 54, 69, i expect them to bid and win Mills, but they might lose anywhere from 2-4 picks to land him

Pick 7 Melbourne: - Darcy Tucker - Height: 184cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 23/01/1997 Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels, Draft Range: 5-15

Darcy is a quality midfielder, i dont know how many times i've seen Tucker in a tight spot and he gets a quality handpass or a quick kick to a team-mate, he isnt a quick player, but he is quick of mind, so he is never caught or in trouble it seems, he also has great poise for a midfielder under pressure, he has a lot of potential and would be a great pick up here, idk what Melbournes draft philosophy is here, but im assuming all teams are going for best available, from here on

Pick 8 Carlton: - Charlie Curnow - Height: 191cm, Weight: 95kg, DOB: 03/02/1997 Recruited from: Geelong Falcons, Draft Range: 8-20

was injured for awhile, but came back and showed that he is a genuine tall talent, can play at both ends of the ground and shows leadership qualities on the field, missing the championships hasnt done his chances of being recruited any harm

Pick 9 Adelaide: - Sam Weideman - Height: 196cm, Weight: 91kg, DOB: 26/06/1997 Recruited from: Eastern Ranges, Draft Range: 15-30

has had an injury interrupted season, but has done enough at the AIS and in previous seasons to get picked up in the 2nd rd, Jack Gunston type, gangly tall that leads well and is flexible in the way he plays/moves, accurate in front of goal also

Pick 10 GWS: - Tom Cole - Height: 185cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 28/08/1997 Recruited from: Bendigo Pioneers, Draft Range: 8-20

another of the Vic Country midfielders that were so dominant in the championships, he hasnt been talked up as much and might go lower in the draft, but i like how he plays and so i put him in the top 10, Tom impressed me with his quality disposal and decision making against Vic Metro, he also moves well and brings team-mates into the play

Pick 11 Carlton: - Harley Balic - Height: 186cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 05/01/1997 Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons, Draft Range: 10-25

Balic is 1 of the better Vic Metro mids in the draft, inside and outside mid, wins clearances and also loves a run, flexible, probably make a good midfielder/half back flanker, his disposal needs a little work, but he has the ability to win the ball and usually uses it well, just needs to clean up his disposal to get to the next level

Pick 12 Richmond: - Kieran Collins - Height: 193cm, Weight: 94kg, DOB: 14/12/1997 Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays, Draft Range: 5-15

Kieran deserves to be in the same conversation as Weitering/Schache but for some reason is seen as going slightly lower, so i have him going here in the draft, commentators have said he is a Brian Lake type and i agree with that assessment, which is why as a Hawks supporter i like this guy a lot

Pick 13 Adelaide: - Rhys Mathieson - Height: 185cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 10/01/1997 Recruited from: Geelong Falcons, Draft Range: 8-20

Impact player, i was more impressed seeing him play a full game than i was with his highlights, he's a part of the Vic Country contested ball winning machine, works hard when he is in the midfield, laying tackles, bumping, grabbing the hard ball, running off half back or the wing, he is a solid all round player, mids who can win their own ball are what clubs are looking for and Rhys does that

Pick 14 St Kilda: - Matthew Kennedy* - Height: 187cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 06/04/1997 Recruited from: GWS Academy, Draft Range: 15-30

Solid Utility player, great overhead mark for a tall mid, plays flanker/inside mid a lot, has clean hands and uses it pretty well, i see him going 1st rd, but im not sold on him being a top 10, but GWS will get a free hit here with 2 guys worthy of going 1st rd

Pick 15 Hawthorn: - Clayton Oliver - Height: 187cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 22/07/1997 Recruited from: Murray Bushrangers, Draft Range: 10-25

Inside clearance winning beast, the Hawks are looking for tough quality midfielders and the Morrish Medallist fits their criteria, he missed the championships, but has still been on peoples radar, dynamic player and the Hawks would be happy picking him up here

Pick 16 Gold Coast: - Ben Keays* - Height: 185cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 23/02/1997 Recruited from: Brisbane Academy, Draft Range: 10-25

Keays is a possession accumulator, he is always running past a team-mate for a handball or getting in and shooting a handball out, his disposal by foot seems to be more about getting distance than passing the ball to the advantage side of his team-mates, good thing about him is he is a hard working mid always buzzing around packs, but he lacks that bit of class that others have in the first rd and might slide to the 2nd rd, Brisbane will probably bid on Keays here with Picks 39, 40, 41, 42, 78, it might cost them 2-3 picks to land him

Pick 17 North Melb: - Josh Dunkley - Height: 189cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 09/01/1997 Recruited from: Gippsland Power, Draft Range: 10-25

Another Father-Son, but has chosen to go into the draft pool, has been on peoples radar for some time, was seen as a top 10 pick at various stages this year, but is likely to go late rd 1, early rd 2 at this stage, is a country lad with AFL pedigree that will help him acclimatize to AFL

Pick 18 Hawthorn: - Riley Bonner - Height: 191cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 07/03/1997 Recruited from: West Adelaide, Draft Range: 10-25

Probably the best kick in the draft pool, Hawthorn love their players to be able to use the ball well and Riley is one of the best in the draft, he can kick the ball over 50m in general play accurately, which is a skill the Hawks would like to make use of seeing as Suckling has moved on

Pick 19 Carlton: - Mitch Hibberd - Height: 191cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 23/09/1996 Recruited from: Clarence, Draft Range: 20-30

Hibberd is an interesting player, he has a good size about him and seems like a smooth mover, but he seems to be only an outside player mostly, plays mostly as a winger, for a guy of his bulk should play more as an inside mid, but doesnt, also seems to go missing at times, but his physique and use of the ball makes him a 2nd rd pick option, 1 of the best from a decent Tassie crop this year

Pick 20 Western: - Callum Ah Chee - Height: 182cm, Weight: 71kg, DOB: 09/10/1997 Recruited from: South Fremantle, Draft Range: 15-30

Callum was the best WA player in the championships, he is a skillful versatile player, he is great overhead, a solid inside and outside mid, has a lot of skill, but was in a poor WA team in the championships, he has AFL standard abilities and would do well at an AFL club

Pick 21 Western: - Ryan Burton - Height: 191cm, Weight: 90kg, DOB: 31/01/1997 Recruited from: North Adelaide, Draft Range: 10-25

Nice size for a 3rd tall, or CHF, good overhead and a beautiful kick on him, he also knows where the goals are and should be a first round pick, played really well in the SANFL last year and looks a likely type to make the grade at AFL, might go higher depending on clubs recruiting preferences

Pick 22 Fremantle: - Luke Partington - Height: 182cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 05/03/1997 Recruited from: Port Adelaide, Draft Range: 20-30

Classy midfielder, 1 of the best for SA in the championships and won All-Aust selection, he has good hands and can do all the tough things in the clinches, tackling, winning the hard ball, disposal is decent and he has good athleticism

Pick 23 West Coast: - Josh Schoenfeld - Height: 186cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 03/07/1997 Recruited from: Peel Thunder, Draft Range: 22-40

Pure winger, nice sized player, can run hard and has good hands, seems poised and can use the ball pretty well, with Ah Chee and Petrevski-Seton was a highlight of a poor WA group of youngsters this season, WCE or Frem will snap him up first chance they get

Pick 24 Essendon: - Nick O'Kearney - Height: 180cm, Weight: 71kg, DOB: 13/02/1997 Recruited from: Calder Cannons, Draft Range: 20-30

Another accumulator, O'Kearney was the ball winning machine for Vic Metro this year, once he developes physically, he is a chance to be a decent AFL player, 2nd rder, because he has the talent to win the ball and use it well, but needs a bit of meat on the bones

Pick 25 Essendon: - Jack Silvagni* - Height: 190cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 17/12/1997 Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers, Draft Range: 20-30

i have him going mid 20's, so by the time the bids are put in this pick will be around pick 24 approx and so this range seems about right to me for an opposing team to make a bid, Silvagni is a versatile player, he plays tall for 190cm like his father before him, i wouldnt be surprised if SOS the 3rd becomes a champion, he has a lot of potential, Silvagni might drop to rd 3 in which case Carlton can use their later picks to pick him up

Pick 26 North Melb: - Jade Gresham - Height: 177cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 24/08/1997 Recruited from: Northern Knights, Draft Range: 25-40

another accumulator of possessions, speedy midfielder who likes to switch play, is a 2nd rd quality player, can win the ball, but can be sloppy with disposal and also can go missing for periods, i think 26 is about right as to where he will get picked

Pick 27 Collingwood: - Ryan Clarke - Height: 186cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 17/06/1997 Recruited from: Eastern Ranges, Draft Range: 25-40

running midfielder, more an outside type of player and an accumulator, will be a good fit for any team looking to add quick wingers to their team, looks ready made

Pick 28 North Melb: - Bailey Rice* - Height: 184cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 10/02/1997 Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays, Draft Range: 25-40

Bailey Rice was a solid contributor for Vic Country whom dominated the championships, he will be bid on by St Kilda as they have him as a F/S pick, Rice had a choice between Carlton and the Saints and choose the saints, even though he has picked the saints the Blues are hoping he changes his mind, that tells you that he is in demand

Pick 29 Gold Coast: - Eric Hipwood* - Height: 200cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 13/09/1997 Recruited from: Aspley, Draft Range: 25-late

i generally dont like 198cm+ players who cant play Ruck or KPF at the highest level, he seems to rely on being quick and being overly taller than his opponent in the NEAFL/championships, 2 things he cant rely on in the AFL, i think even pick 29 is too early to draft him, talk about speculation, but Brisbane will probably snap him up with a bid

Pick 30 Western: - Kieran Lovell - Height: 174cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 16/05/1997 Recruited from: Kingston Tigers, Draft Range: 25-40

hard working midfielder, 1 of the better Tassie players in the draft pool, 2nd or 3rd rd will be where he most likely drops, slightly less polished version of Keays and a bit smaller, busy midfielder always buzzing around packs

Pick 31 West Coast: - Josh Minogue* - Height: 189cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 09/10/1996 Recruited from: Murray Bushrangers, Draft Range: 30-late

classy Midfield/Winger for the NSW/ACT, i didnt know much about him before i watched a Championship game and he stood out as the best speedy long kicking winger on the park, i like him a lot and i hope he slips to pick 48 for the Hawks, but will likely get bid on by GWS

Pick 32 Port Adel: - Maris Olekalns - Height: 182cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 28/08/1997 Recruited from: North Adel, Draft Range: 25-40

Clever skinny kid, is what i wrote down in my notes, has a high football IQ and just does the right things at the right times, doesnt get a ton of possessions, but when he gets the ball he does something

Pick 33 Sydney: - James Parsons - Height: 189cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 12/04/1997 Recruited from: Eastern Ranges, Draft Range: 25-40

very skinny lad, but he has so much potential, is a great height for a mid, so when he fills out will be great, reminds me a bit of Jordan Lewis/Pendlebury, a bit laconic, but can use the ball well and looks like a good prospect mid draft

Pick 34 GWS: - David Cunningham - Height: 183cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 30/03/1997 Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers, Draft Range: 30-late

i liked what i saw from Cunningham, he stuck out in my mind in the Vic Metro V Vic Country game, just worked hard and was one of the leaders in the Vic Metro comeback from being 6 goals behind, really good youngster and something to work with

Pick 35 Fremantle: - Alex Morgan - Height: 180cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 28/01/1996 Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers, Draft Range: 30-late

one of the better half back flankers in the championships Div 1, provided good run and carry and hit targets most of the time, should get drafted at some stage and i think rd 2-3 is most likely where he will go

Pick 36 Sydney: - Corey Wagner* - Height: 180cm, Weight: 71kg, DOB: 23/03/1997 Recruited from: Aspley, Draft Range: 30-late

one of the better half back flankers in the championships from Div 2, provided good run and carry, basically similar to Alex Morgan, but a Brisbane Academy player

Pick 37: Sydney: - Jaydn Brind - Height: 181cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 08/10/1997 Recruited from: Wst Adel, Draft Range: 30-late

Nuggety midfielder from SA, has a cool head, moves well and uses the ball well, he would make a good centreman, retaining possession and linking up with forwards, has a decent kick on him and had a solid championships

Pick 38 Brisbane: - Hugh Haysman - Height: 178cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 26/02/1997 Recruited from: Wst Adel, Draft Range: 30-late

Haysman just keeps going and going, another SA youngster that caught my eye, not highly rated, but i think he'll get drafted and could be a nice surprise if he keeps showing the desire and heart he showed in the championships, (P.S. i just saw he crushed it at the state combine, not surprising, but that makes him a certainty to get drafted i would think)

Pick 39 Brisbane: - Harry McKay - Height: 200cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 24/12/1997 Recruited from: Gippsland Power, Draft Range: 30-late

McKay is a weird 1, i like him in some respects, but dislike the fact he is basically a 200cm winger/flanker, as i said before i like the 200cm guys to either be Rucks/KPF's or at least have the attributes, he and Hipwood i believe are similar in that they are 200cm flankers and i'm not a fan of that

Pick 40 Brisbane: - Matthew Allen - Height: 193cm, Weight: 97kg, DOB: 18/10/1997 Recruited from: Glenlg, Draft Range: 30-late

Allen is your typical leading solid forward, nothing special, but could fit into a system nicely, former cricketer that is trying to make it in the AFL, he is a good size for the 2nd tall/leading forward in a team and should get picked up somewhere in the draft

So you think the teams with academy players won't match the bids?

I like the Schoenfield pick Davo-27, great player to have running the wings at Domain, but at 23 it might be a bit early on him. If available I hope that Ryan Clarke comes under strong consideration here.

As for Minogue his a big no from me. Not a required player right now. We will continue to build on outside midfield run in the draft I think.

Just a small correction, hopper is actually a gws academy zone player, so Sydney won't be able to bid-match on him.

Wayne Milera not getting picked inside pick 45??

Look I'm not as sold on him as some seem to be but surely it's an oversight on your part??

the reason behind this is because he fumbles way too much and his disposal/decision making can be iffy at times, i have him going anywhere from 40-late, i dont rate him as highly as others do obviously, i watched a couple of games with him as a player i kept an eye out for, he did not impress, so thats why i have him going later

Who'd make that kind of bid on Rice?

Rice might be bid on in the 20's, but i'm not sure if you have the points to pick him up, so i just had you guys pick him a little earlier, but i cant predict the players being bid on... i also rated SOS as a pick in the 20's and had Carlton just pick him at 19...
