Collingwood midfielder Dayne Beams has asked to be traded back to his home state, Queensland.
Beams, 24, is contracted to Collingwood for 2015 but explained that for family reasons he is keen to return to the state he was drafted from in 2008.
While sympathetic to the personal circumstances outlined to the club, Collingwood intends to retain Beams and will seek to help him best deal with these circumstances while continuing to play for Collingwood.
Collingwood Director of Football, Rodney Eade, outlined the club’s position.
“We want Dayne to stay,” Eade said.
“We understand his personal situation and will be working with him and his management, as we do all our players, to find an outcome that may give him more time with his family and remain a Collingwood player for 2015 and beyond.”
Out of respect to Grand Final week and the two competing teams, Collingwood will be making no further comment on this matter.
