Dayne Beams offers a ray of sunshine to Brisbane Lions

IT TOOK a tragic situation off the field to get him north, but the acquisition of superstar onballer Dayne Beams is turning out to be everything the Brisbane Lions had hoped for.

With dad Phillip having been diagnosed with bowel cancer, Beams' decision to leave Collingwood and head home to Queensland was black and white.

Though he grew up on the Gold Coast, and his family still lives there, Beams was happy to overlook the Suns - just as he did in 2008 when opting to take his chances in the draft - and join the mob just up the road at the Gabba and play with younger brother Claye.

Really reminded me of Aker on Sunday. That left foot is awesome. When he marked 40m out but decided to play-on and make the angle tougher only to kick it on his left was Aker-esque. The day we get our midfield fit and playing together will be a great one

Barring more injury chaos; potentially rounds 15 - 22 we'll see what these blokes can do as a unit:

D.Beams
Hanley
Rich
Rockliff
Redden
Christensen
Zorko
Taylor
Mayes
Robertson

Have they even played a game together....all those above?

Hanley's first game with D. Beams was this week (obviously), and Rocky, etc, were out, so nope.

Beams has no regrets about move back home to Queensland

IN so many ways Dayne Beams is a complex character.

After six largely successful seasons with Collingwood, the 25-year-old put his hand up for an off-season trade to the battling Brisbane Lions.

Beams was a best and fairest winner and premiership player for the Magpies, yet few people outside his family and teammates know much about him.

He is now the highest-paid player on the Lions' list, but is quietly spoken and stays out of the limelight.

That's just the way he likes it.
