Given the impact Garlett and Robinson have had at their new clubs, as well as Carlton's pretty miserable performance against Richmond, was it the right move?

Or are those two guys only doing so well as being pushed out was the kick in the backside they needed?

If they had stayed they might have taken it as they could continue as they were with no repercussions? Then their lack of application, discipline, etc could hurt the rest of the list?

Its a sliding doors moment for both the club and the players for sure, but its hard to say that in the long run the form they are showing would have continued at Carlton

Where's the "It doesn't really matter, Carlton would still be up s**t creek without a paddle" option?

If they stayed at Carlton, I guarantee that their form would not be as good. New coaches/cultures/game styles would have re-energised them and made them perform better.

They're not great players. Good players, sure. But not good enough to make a huge difference.

Disagree on Garlett not being a great player. He kicks more goals than you'd think.

He had some lengthy periods at Carlton where all he did was kick his couple of goals a match, and was missing otherwise. His game last week, he had 20 disposals, 6 tackles, 5 inside 50s, a couple of bounces, a goal assist, along with six shots at goal. He's always teased, but he just needed to genuinely add more strings to his bow, and he may have done that at Melbourne. Roosy appears to be a bit of a "recuit whisperer", dating back to his time at Sydney, getting the most out of underachieving/middling players from other clubs.

Still very early to judge though, for both Garlett and Robinson. I'd like to see them succeed, but I'd want to give it a full season at least before saying they've really turned things around, and that there should be any regret on Carlton's part.

Do find it interesting how little tolerance Malthouse seems to have had with "wayward" types at Carlton (Garlett, Robinson, Eddie Betts, Jarrod Waite), given how much of a free reign he apparently gave a lot of the "scallywags" at Collingwood.
