Discussion on Pick #14 - Jake Lever

Jake Lever .....first season has taken out 3 Crows players with friendly fire

Just imagine how many players we could lose when Jake bulks up
He has taken out some opposition players too ;)

I'd love to lose this argument and Wigg turn out to be a gun. Then we can say it was a success.

Have you at least conceded we weren't a lock for Lever and by swapping our picks we potentially could have missed out on him? Which then makes your initial post from yesterday a bit silly.
We know the club has said there were a handful of players we would have been equally happy to end up with and knew at least 1 would be available at our pick rather than them thinking it was lever or bust but still taking the risk.

I would love if it turned out we actually preferred someone who went between the 2 swapped picks but were happy to settle for lever.

THEN the trade would be a masterstroke in hindsight by forcing our hand!

For those who might be interested - Emma Quayle has a new book coming out on last year's draft. One of the 5 kids she follows through the year is Lever, the others are Peter Wright, Isaac Heeney, Tom Lamb and Clem Smith

Her similar book she did on the 2007 draft was very good in which she followed Cotchin, Rioli ,Ben McEvoy, Brad Ebert and Patrick Veszpremi (she really did poor in not picking Danger!)

Word is that he's a bit sore. Maybe all those steam train moments are taking their toll?

I'm not surprised.

He's been hard at it and hasn't been backward in stepping forward. ... or steamrolling players.

Given he was slated as unlikely to debut this year he has done well. I thought as soon as he was subbed out he might have a rest.

Love:
"To Jake, it was funny how instantly he felt like an Adelaide player. He was wearing a red, blue and yellow polo shirt within minutes. He was out in a back room talking to an Adelaide radio station not long after that. Phil Walsh, the Crows’ new coach, sat next to him at dinner, asking him all about where he had grown up, telling him what training would be like.

He had phone call after phone call: from Rory Sloane, Taylor Walker, Nathan van Berlo, Scott Thompson, his new teammates all of a sudden. He was due to fly over on Sunday, to move in with Patrick Dangerfield and get started the next day. He wished it could happen sooner. ‘It’s been fourteen months since I’ve played a game of footy and I really want to play a game of footy. The sooner I’m over there, the closer I am. I can’t wait. I’d fly there tonight if I could.’

Her chat on AA about it the other night was great. Highly recommend finding the audio.
I'm very curious to read the book. I have a ton of respect and a little bit of envy for Emma ;)

Her Hird apology articles lost some respect from me. She couldn't take the Essendon Hird love blinkers off in order to attempt to be an impartial journalist. She's great when talking about draftees etc but other than that she should stick to the draft stuff.

She annoyed me during the Tippett stuff but in hindsight she was pretty accurate with all her reporting. Her draft analysis and commentary is first rate.

Not seen her hird articles. May sway me as well. Gotta linky?

A quick google brought these up. Nothing as blatant as Robbo or Chip at his most pro-essendon but there is a def slant towards poor Essendon and they did nothing wrong attitude that just seemed to prevail in them to me. I know there have been some more from her as well that were fairly pro-Hird.
