List Mgmt. DRAFT / TRADING - Daily Summary

Remove this Banner Ad

Hi everyone,

So the mods and a few of us have decided to create this thread. What one of us will try to do, is just give a one-post breakdown of the main news, core discussions from the trade thread over the last day or so.

This thread isn't really for discussion - leave the actual trade thread for that. This is so you can ENTER that discussion, without having to trawl through twenty pages to do it. Let's keep this thread tight. :)

DRAFT THREAD

Saturday 13 September, 2014, Evening

  • (page 533) Discussion out of Port's win, basically on how we can have a team like theirs.
  • In particular, does Petracca = Wines : older draftee, but still going to be good? Most seem to think the similarity is there. Swaying towards him being our #1.
  • Discussion of Paige's mock draft, which has us taking Tracs with #1, and Barrell's boy Reece McKenzie with our second.
  • Extensive discussion of Tracs' kicking, with many saying the poorness of it has been very exaggerated.
  • Terry Wallace says we should get Petracca - “ABORT! ABORT! ”
  • Questions whether McKenzie is just another project forward, like Stanley, White, Lee, etc.
  • Discussion about the Dogs midfield, and why it wasn’t enough – they needed forwards.
  • Discussion about Hawkins against Kangas, Riewoldt in 09/10 – both very valuable... but both their teams lost, so...

Sunday 14 September, 2014, All Day
  • (page 535) Discussion on Lonie, Paige’s third pick for us.
  • Future stars has us taking Tracs. Then Dees=Brayshaw, GWS= Wright, Lions=McCartin.
  • Jack Newnes didn’t make the U23 All Australian. None of our kids did.
  • Swans want Pick 1 – what will it take? Ried, Mitchell, Jones, 2nd rounder all get discussed. Most aren’t interested. Most don’t like Ried, and definitely don’t want to help the Swans!
  • Visiting Freo fan asks about trading for Spencaaa... it doesn’t end well.
  • Skippos from the Crows comes in: good. Says Payne isn’t a forward, more third tall. Caleb Daniel is a small midfielder, not a small forward – doesn’t have enough tricks. He also thinks Wright is better than Tracs, but concedes its a bit more of a risk.

PICK #1 THREAD
  • A bit of a history debate on whether we scored a bargain in Dunstan, including whether the whole McEvoy trade was good.
  • This became a massive digression on the definition of “elite”, and the exaggerated use of it by the media, especially Luke Darcy.
  • This became an argument about who IS elite... which had very little to do with who we'll pick with #1.
  • Saint Dos asked who the best KPFs for 2015’s draft will be, as this might help us decide whether to take Petracca this yearwith #1, and wait for next year’s draft for a KPF instead.
  • Schache, Weidemann and Burton are all options for KPFs next year, although Burton’s just got seriously injured.

TRADE AND DRAFT THREAD
  • (page 541) More discussion on Caleb Daniel – talent vs shortness. Mention of great games for South Adelaide Panthers in the SANFL Semi-Final.
  • News that Jakshe is very unlikely to come to the Saints, probably to Carlton.
  • Also news that 6 clubs offered to trade for our #1, but none of their deals were good enough.
  • Discussion of Pelchen’s reputation as a hard nosed trader. General support for that.
  • News from Richo in an interview repeating that we want three top 20 picks.
  • News from the TAC prelim finals of various players stats (jump straight there for those stats)
  • Peter Wright played badly, but was apparently injured, so...
  • Why have clubs gone cold on Alex Urban? He’s not been invited to the combine yet.
  • Pies are lucky they’re getting Darcy Moore as a Father/Son.
  • Melbourne poster asks for us to leave Petracca for them. We say no.

Okay, so how about one of us (I hope it’s not always me!) try to do this in the morning, so you can enter into the thread fresh if you missed a day or so? :)

Tuesday September 16
  • (page 544) Discussion about getting another top-20 pick.
  • As part of that, some posts about how great the Pelican is, just trusting he’ll make it happen somehow. Armo is the most common suggestion.
  • So, who would we try to get with that extra pick? Menadue, de Goey, Weller are options.
  • Maybe get McLaren late, he’s a tall defender. Another option is Oscar McDonald.
  • TAC Grand Final will be streamed live. link here
  • Discussion of whether Petracca is better than Mitchell. Most say very much yes.
  • The Combine is on September30 to October 3. link here
  • A Facebook rumour says... wait, I won’t waste your time.
  • Increasing calls that Petracca will be elite, mega-elite, invincible and probably will cure cancer.
  • Jaxons from SS (respected insider), says we are definitely taking Petracca #1.
  • Annual Tayte Pears discussion. Some say yes, some say no. John Butcher the same.
  • Discussion of failed #1s of the past, just to recognise it’s not an automatic win.
  • Discussion that our draft analysis, both in the BF Saints board, and at the Saints under Pelican, have vastly improved since 2008.
  • Maybe we get Wagner from the Recruit? Free, good publicity?
  • Maybe Andrew Harris, Brisbane’s academy pick, may be a better option than McKenzie?

Wednesday September 17

  • (page 548) Freo fan came in to ask what it would take to trade Joey to them. Maybe their first rounder? Certainly not any of their more second-rate midfielders.
  • A little reminder that McCartin is another great option for #1. Wright and a downgrade, too.
  • Hypotheticals around us getting the winner of the Rookie – but then in the end we didn’t anyway.
  • More discussion around whether to get Mitch Clark. Considered too risky, damaged goods.
  • Richmond supporter asked about what it would take for them to get Steven. The answer was, “way too much”. Vickery was thrown up... then thrown out.
  • This sparked a larger discussion of how “untradeable” somebody like Steven is.
  • Sam Blease is leaving the Dees – any interest? Not much. Maybe a rookie spot.
  • Rumour that we might take Richmond’s Brandon Ellis.
  • Continued rumours we’ll trade picks or players to get 3 top 20 picks.
  • The Dangerfield rumours start flying in the wake of Sanderson’s sacking. A wide variety of offers, most around whether #1 is enough to get him. Him being only a year away from FA complicates things. Is he too old at 24?
  • Rumours that Carlton are trying to poach Pelchen. Most don’t believe them.
  • Any interest in Alex Carr, winner of the Morrish Medal, for a rookie spot?

Thursday September 18
(Deja Vu yes its the 18th)

  • (Page 555) Agreed Pelchen moving to Carlton would be a massive downgrade in responsibility for him
  • Discussed that finishing last is not winning the wooden spoon, but rather finishing first on the grid for the Draft, PSD and Rookie Draft. Great strategic driving move
  • Note to Tigers fans that Vickery is not wanted in a club that is rebuilding. Known that all recycled rejects belong in Freo with Ross Lyon
  • Discussion on Saints Rookies elevation. Will it be 3 or 4 upgraded? Are internationals counted in the 4? What other factors are in play, that will influence promotion of all rookies? What is a rookie?
  • Thoughts on Melbourne delisted 23 year old player Sam Blease. No interest. Then a flicker that with our development team in place, we can turn any ex-Melbourne spud into a line breaking champion. Was that the ghost of Ross Lyon posting?
  • Queries on both the recruiting of Saad and the elevation of Minch from the Rookie list. Then lots of love shown for Minch, finishing with several posters guarantees that the Minch upgrade, is not up for discussion, as its a done deal
  • Draft thread bus pulled up for a quick wayside stop, to drool over GWS's Adam Treloar and agree that he should be at the Saints
  • What we do best, wild speculation and multiple draft options, showing clearly how Treloar is to be traded to St Kilda. Clear cut really
  • Discussion on DFA and how Saad is at the draft this year and not DFA
  • Agreed Percys draft summaries are outstanding
  • Missed opportunities with McEvoy initial draft choice instead of Rioli or Dangerfield, the trade to Hawthorn discussed and Port ruck man Matthew Lobbe who was selected after Big Boy, who no one wanted for that drafts, Pick 7
  • Draft thread bus stopped again, to drool at Adam Treloar some more
  • Agreed Carlton were worse in that draft by using Pick 1 on Kreuzer
  • Consensus that discussing McEvoys draft and rucking ability may be a sign that we have little to talk about today
  • SaintsSeptember admits that he has been mentally and emotionally damaged by previous drafts and St Kilda's selections in these, starting with Brad Howard. Hopefully with several more successful blockbuster drafts and intense draft thread reading, he can work his way through this

Friday September 19th
(yes we have moved on from the 18th)

  • (Page 558) James Gwilt has now met with both Melbourne and the Gold Coast. Speculation on what compensation, if any, we might receive, if he is picked up by another club
  • Clarified that Gwilt is still on the Saints list until end of October (so compensation is possible if he is taken as a free agent, albeit players have moved for no compensation in the past)
  • Carlton confirm they don't want Pelchen, which in reality means he was not interested in the position there
  • Carlton supporter came in to say that Saints are interested in Liam Jones from Western Bulldogs (Blues supporter possibly here only to tell us, because Pelchen rejected Carlton)
  • Shack, awe, dismay, anger, vomiting, threats of use of firearms and membership card microwaving with thought of Liam Jones joining us
  • Manimal produces mock up of Liam Jones in Saints jumper. Image creates eye burning with acid, more anger, ridicule, checking if we are being punked, more vomiting and chest beating that lowland gorillas would surely recognise
  • LWP comes out to say he is for the recruitment of Jones. Stunned silence as posters stop to think if he has been drinking, or has joined with Ashton Kutcher in punking us. Shortly after Uncle issues a graphics RED CARD for LWP's support of Jones
  • Could Corey Ellis at our pick 21 be the new Nick Del Santo (well the Nick before North maybe)
  • Speculation on how many draft picks we will use & if any more players need to be delisted
  • Discussion degenerates into a discussion of the toughness of Uncles mother
  • Discussion on how Pelchen is going to get the extra pick between 1 and 21
  • General ridicule of Goddard's position at a club with ethics that he defends
  • Liam Jones comments back, more vomiting mentioned
  • The party bus from the Essendon court case arrived. Obvious that they are in high spirits and very pleased with their day out. Who would of thought that the law was so exciting
  • The bus had driven past the Essendon board on the way back from court. Thankfully no vomiting there, but massive delusional behaviour and amnesia. Agreed they may have to do something about that
  • Paddy Ryder hopped on one of the other party buses and was last seen leaving court driving to Qld
  • Question posed, is it better to have Swan forwards or Port mids. Anguish that we can't have both. Consensus is get Petracca with Pick 1
  • Sydney forward Tim Membrey yet to sign & may be looking for new home
  • Party bus does a few more laps around the thread shouting anti bombers comments and mocking Hird as they go

Saturday September 20th
  • Discussion on who to give what #, comments that Billings was indeed #15 at Scotch and probably won't move out of it.
  • Luke Parker is a very, very good footballer.
  • More discussion on Essendon, posters do NOT want to force Saints players to Essendon because, well, Essendon.
  • Reports that Jon Ralph said on SEN that STKFC will draft Petracca, look to trade for a pick in the teens and draft another big bodied midfielder (unclear whether we will draft another big bodied midfielder with that pick in the teens or a later pick).

  • Lots of discussion around which big-bodied midfielder we will select, with Neal-Bullen (reports we are into him) the main name thrown about.
There's some strong mail that we are very keen on Neal-Bullen.
  • Manimal drops a hint that we will move on Rhys Stanley for a 2nd round pick, then combine that with another pick to get a Saints selection in between our current 1st and 2nd round selections. Some speculation before this post around how we will get more picks.
  • Supporters agree that Liam Jones is shite.
  • Melbourne supporter wants us to pass on Petracca. We want Melbourne supporter to pass on that we will select Petracca.
  • Clarification that Gwilt and Jones are still on our list and must be signed by opposition clubs as unrestricted Free Agents, not Delisted Free Agents.
  • Much more conversation on Petracca, all posters agree that he is a beast.
  • Strong word that Blake Acres will move into #8.
  • Joke about Sydney and COLA. Posters make comments on how Petracca is like Boak/Wines and NOT Robbie Gray.
  • Uncle Barrels goes crazy with photos, funnily enough none are of Reece McKenzie :p
  • More Liam Jones discussion, he is only 98kgs.

Sunday September 21st

  • (page 570) North supporter hang around like a drug dealer, trying to get anyone walking into the room to take Jacobs. Maybe too many hangovers, but his offer was refused
  • You can see that trading is getting close, as we are in the midst of wild speculations. What if we trade Hickey, Longer, Stanley, Armitage or any combination there of. If all speculations are taken we will trade out three ruck men, inside mid and a forward/ruck
  • Arguments put why all, or each one is vital for our structure and going forward in the list rebuild. Arguments why none of them are
  • North supporter offering to throw in free medical equipment with Jacob. Seems as though North may be clearing a drug debt by selling Jacob
  • Uncle has decision to make, does he watch Reece McKenzie on Channel 9, or go with his wife to the hospital for the birth of their first child. Wife wins
  • McKenzie on CI Channel discussing being stalked. Uncle not named in media release prior to show being aired
  • Agreed Longer is a mongrel. Some believe he may be reincarnation of Val Vidovic
  • Like a character from a horror film the Liam Jones trade to St Kilda rears its head again. No vomiting, or claims of personal self harm this time though
  • Agreed if Jones was any good as a forward prospect, the Dogs wouldn't be letting him go
  • Liam Jones kicks 5 in the VFL Grand Final and is now believed by many to be the missing forward link in our charge for premiership glory. Jones could be our saviour
  • Jones only 23 and athletic, think he is worth a risk. Jones coming in allows Pelchen to trade Stanley out for a first round pick
  • Agreed that if Stanley is to be traded, we have a Eddie Fisher / Boris Spassky like chess move underway to allow us to dominate the trade, then the draft
  • Common sense viewpoint that this is only one game and that you can't judge Jones based on that. Lots of nodding. Jones is crap again.
  • Radical proposal put forward, where we keep our current better players and draft picks that we have and go to the draft with those. Haven't they read the previous 570 pages? This will not happen, there are 20,000 posts that say otherwise.
  • Mmmmmmm Boyd Mmmmmmmm Boyd Mmmmmmmmm Boyd
  • Another radical theory put forward, in that Saints supporters may overrate our players and underrate those from opposition teams. Can't see that one getting any support on here
  • Billings signing a worry. Ahhhh no its not. A brief 30 seconds of panic
  • Seen that best thing is to keep Stanley, as he is the devil we know. Does that mean that we should also keep TDL?
  • Lots of love shown for Armo. But lets trade him if the offer is good enough

Monday September 22nd
  • (page 577) Armo to the Gold Coast for Suns first pick & we select Weller with it
  • If not Suns with Armo, then Richmond for pick 11/12 & select Liam Duggan
  • Whilst Essendon continue to break every rule, Hawthorn like bullet dodging Neo from The Matrix, has McEvoy play VFL best on ground preliminary final, for game he is not eligible. And then have Rioli play VFL Grand Final, in which sits out last quarter leaving Box Hill short, as he dreams of another AFL Grand Final
  • Thought that Port desperately need forward / ruck man, but that they are rare. List produced of Forward / Ruck men and seems they are prolific, even if some resemble a baby giraffe
  • Speculated that Stanley & Saints pick 39, for Ports Pick 15
  • If Stanley out, part of larger plan to talk up Petracca, then swap pick 1, for pick 4 and another pick. Then Saints pick Wright as upgraded Forward / Ruck. Pelchen getting very little sleep as he dreams up rocket scientist like trade scenarios
  • Schneider in wings, as time at Saints dependent on who we trade, draft, or just need his spot in the list
  • Our abundance of rucks will allow us to trade them out for high draft picks in the future. Seems that keeping a development garden of rucks growing, is a great pick generator in the future
  • Sin committed of saying we traded Pick 13 for Lee when we didn't. Slap given
  • Talk again of moving Roo further up the ground, or off the ground, to see what we are like without him. Shudders throughout thread, as we realise that won't be pleasant
  • Would you trade Curren? If so what's he worth. We really do have the garage sale sign out
  • Shock that Bulldogs thread is at 811 pages, until realised they are still using the 2013 thread. Sneaky move Dogs, but you have to get up early in the trade to sneak that one by us
  • So many trade numbers and options given for Stanley, that it was thought to be Saturday night lotto numbers time and people started checking their tickets
  • SANFL player Matt Panos shown some love. Coincidentally Panos becomes the 300th player linked to us in this thread. Guarantee one of these selections will be right
  • Seems Stanley has high centre of gravity. Explains why he keeps lurching forward and falling out of chairs
  • Seems Armo is not natural leader, but his leadership group position is Pelchens way of improving his draft value
  • A circle is formed, where all in the thread, have to give a trade of an Armo scenario
  • New members Crasha & Stclowney are attracted by the chanting of Armo Armo Armo Trade Trade Trade and sit down and join the circle
  • Dangerfield perfect. Dangerfield too old. Dangerfield age fine. Get Petracca as 15 year Dangerfield
  • Maybe not Dangerfield, as we need to be really crap for another season yet. Oh joy
  • Geelong moderator sniffing around. Offered Armo for his trouble
  • De Goey band wagon pushed out into traffic on the freeway to see how it performs
  • Priddis good win, but ruined financial fortune for many punters

Starting at Page 584
  • De Goey fan club makes another appearance, bandwagon growing more than the Heat fan base post-decision.
  • Poster makes a Priddis trade joke and like a hat in December, straight over other posters' heads.
  • Trade suggestion made where Saints lose Armitage, gain Tom Mitchell while the Swans get the Suns' Pick 14.
  • Unc makes disturbing Reece McKenzie remarks, nothing to see here.
  • Like a cork in the ocean the Geelong moderator keeps bobbing up for discussion. More said on Wells' recruiting and the accuracy of first, second and third round picks.
  • Melbourne bid for Priority Pick rejected, AFL applauded until it's realised that Melbourne will more likely than not get Pick 3 for Frawley
  • More Armitage trade talk, this time to Melbourne. All just hypotheticals, not based on any "insider knowledge" or reports from the media.
  • GOP = Good Ordinary Player. We have too many of these on our list.
  • Big discussion surrounding class, kicking ability, its importance and where Jack Billings would go in the 2014 Draft.
  • The Age reports that we are interested in O'Rourke AND Jaksch (http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-ne...ue-begins-20140923-10l1t24.html#ixzz3E8QO4hAI)
  • More trade hypotheticals involving Stanley, O'Shea and pick swaps.

  • (page 584) De Goey at second pick would be sensational pick up for some
  • Joop admits that a comment on Dangerfield being too old, should have had a smiley face and saved those who were hysterically laughing and others who were questioning his sanity
  • Seems to be lots of draft cards being played and Stanley seems to be a popular card in most of them
  • Gwilt interest from GWS and Adelaide. Didn't Melbourne also have an interest as well?
  • Ahhhhh my god Joop has done it again. He speculated that we swap Pick 1 for Priddis and he did so without the safety net of the smiley face. Doesn't he realise the consequences of this?
  • Armo steps in to say that Joop was only joking. Must have wanted to make the point for all, as he posted it twice. Joop inspired unrest now quelled.
  • Trading week getting closer with scenarios flying. Mitchell is desired, more first round draft picks are desired, Stanley & Armo are talked of being sacrificed for the greater good of the club
  • Agreed that if Jaksch goes to Carlton we have dodged a bullet as he must be a dick head. If however he chooses us, obviously a guy of high morals, strong ethics and signs of outstanding leadership qualities
  • Bampton a money ball pick. Agreed no thanks, not with our money
  • Dewah07 puts up list of possible secondary trading targets. Some think it better that we develop our own duds, rather than recruit other clubs
  • Melbourne refused Priority Pick. Agreed this is probably AFL way of then giving them compensation pick 3 for Frawley leaving
  • Can we get Goddard back now and trade him again in a few weeks, to get Pick 2 Compensation?
  • Mowman continues his solo vigil inside the thread, reminding everyone, every three pages that Jones at the Bulldogs is a dud and not to be drafted. Appears that he has made a little hut out of cardboard boxes, as he has settled in for the duration to keep this anti Jones crusade going
  • In Pelchen rush to acquire an extra round 1 pick, thought that only by trading Armo, Stanley or Steven will get that for us
  • Movement forming to keep Stanley, as incredibly hard position to fill and players for this take years to develop
  • What does GOP stand for? Good hOnest Player. Good Ordinary Player (Jack Dyer quote, win a prize Mowman). Other suggestions including Grand Old Opry, Girls Orgies Parties, Get Off Park and Get Out Pronto
  • Speculated that Siposs, Roberton, Gilbert, Armitage, Ray, Simpkin and Milera are all on trade, give away, garage sale table at the moment
  • Tommy Wiggs would like more tickets to the dance. Thinks the number of Rookies that are playing off in the Grand Final is a plus. Believed that Saints should look for players who can dance to make Rookies, as this may be a key indicator of future success
  • Rors agrees that with 15 out of 44 players for the Grand Final originally being Rookies, we should recruit talent we can spend time and develop. Doesn't mention looking for dancing skills, or dance tickets, but that may be a given
  • Thought that Petracca will tear up the combine with times, speeds, endurance that will set the whole recruiting world alight. Is Pelchen behind this, with great results further enhancing our picks & players that we will receive for trading pick 1
  • Rumoured that St Kilda and Hawthorn are both very interested in GWS former pick 2, O'Rourke. Not mentioned that Carlton or Freo are interested in him, but those clubs bid on everyone and anything. Its a reflex action for both of those clubs, as clearly no one wants to go there, but hell lets keep asking someone will eventually say yes
  • For what we would get for Joey, trading away, he is too valuable to the club, so we must keep. Now club need to reassure Joey that we were never going to trade him and all of those rumours (Goddard, Dal, Mac like rumours) that had us trading him away were not right at all
  • Big Monty not so interested in dance tickets, but rather that we won't be seeing any rabbits pulled from hats. Is this to happen at the dance too?

Wednesday September 24th
  • (page 588) Thought by some that it may not just be Free Agency and compo pick for Gwilt but some sort of pick swap, that could suit both Saints and other club
  • Seems like O'Rourkes hamstrings are seen as fine and fragile. He may play like a Stradivarius Violin, but like a Stradivarius the strings are fine and delicate
  • Now with Melbourne probably getting Pick 3, Saints should throw the sink at Melbourne to get the pick. Sink could include Stanley, Montagna and anyone else we want to throw on the Melbourne player development bonfire
  • Talk turns to Wright. Would he be an upgrade on Stanley provide us with a 2 metre key forward, allowing us to trade pick 1 away for picks and players?
  • Other years pick 1 was easy. Our year, seems there is a draft merry go round of up to three players we rotate through the thread, Petracca, Wright and McCartin
  • tbarker sat behind Paul Roos in cafe today and seems he bores his wife as much as he does most of us. Encouraging news that its not just us
  • http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-09-24/no1-up-for-grabs Pelchen confirms that Pick 1 is still on the table, but no firm offers have been made yet. But if we keep Pick 1 we will select the best, rated on ability, not what positional player we most require. Seems Petracca may be ours if other clubs don't wow, wax lyrical, dine us and shower us with many trinkets
  • Like a bone left out the sun, we have all sniffing around. A Weagles supporter politely inquiring as to what is needed for our pick 1 and Petracca. Also politely told that cost would be far too high, that he may get a nose bleed just considering what we would want
  • Pelchen on SEN scoffed at rumours of him going to Carlton. He said it politely, but clear to all he meant, "you are surely joking, going to work with Malthouse and the soft list that he has there. That is laughable"
  • The daily Cameron is coming to the Saints at the end of 2015 comments. Just checked and same comment is appearing daily on 16 other clubs draft threads too.
  • Tough gig trying to convince Crows to take Milera. They are not buying that he is a champion and was only left out of the team as Pelchen was desperate for us to get last and secure Pick 1. More the pity they have seen him play too
  • Only one previous example of trading pick 1 and that was from Freo and that didn't end well
  • Some love shown for West Coast Pick 10 & Darling to Saints for Pick 1
  • With frenzy of trading down pick 1, then trading down pick 4, we may have to delist a few more to fit in the multiple teen draft picks the club would have
  • Queries on List Management with the upgrading of all 4 Rookies. Is this too big a risk? Are we cutting off options, or is there still more fat to trim?
  • Beams requesting move to Qld team. Eddies head explosion imminent. Can Saints benefit or get involved in this to our advantage? Is Collingwood starting on tanking early for 2015 wooden spoon and first draft pick
  • Gerard Wheatley quoted as saying GWS will do whatever it takes to get Petracca. Yes we are the team to exploit them for their lust of our player. Don't you love a good auction
  • Brett Anderson believes Saints Pick 1 for GWS Pick 4 and 14 (no idea yet how they get 14) He is now suggesting we get Pick 4, Shiel and another player. Isn't this fun. Remember some of the big beltings during the season, so sit back and soak up the fun that we missed then and make the most of it now
  • Speculations galore including Swans, GWS and Suns on trading picks and players
  • VDS ends with giving parent and marital advice to first time father Uncle. This thread has it all

Thursday September 25th
  • (page 601) Seen that with the trading period close, fans will need to make an extra hour a day, just to keep up with the posts, speculation, trolls and volume of trade scenarios ahead
  • High expectations for trading Pick 1, thought that Pick 4 and Jaksch, or Pick 4 and O'Rourke would not get it done, or probably wouldn't either with Pick 1 and both of them
  • Pages and pages of West Coast Eagles supporter saying that all of our scenarios and demands for pick 1 are outlandish, unreasonable and not based in the real world. Surely that is not news to any of us, who have been through over 600 pages so far on this thread
  • Weagles supporter can't get that the trading away of Pick 1 does not have to be fair. We have it, lots want it and to dislodge it from us, it will need to be earth shatteringly unfair. GWS best of all clubs knows this, as they played by the exact same rules
  • Scenarios put forward where Collingwood end up with pick 1 from us, absolute distaste and disgust from most, that would rather have us ritually burn number 1 and dance around a fire with that pick burning, than give it to Collingwood
  • Armo a leader, Armo personal problems, Armo association with friends with poor behaviour queried, Armo a leader, Armo solid body, Armo lets trade/keep him
  • Seems a number of potential draftees have many parents posting on Saints forum, with many posters naming them in posts as "my boy"
  • Melbourne getting pick 3 for Frawley, could complicate Saints dealings, especially if Melbourne trade it, or both 2 and 3 away. Would they do this, they are Melbourne and trading and drafting is not their strength?
  • Rahul goes gooey over De Goey His star is rising and may be a surprise higher pick than first thought
  • Thought Petracca must be relieved that in all trade scenarios, he doesn't end up at Melbourne, a graveyard for high picks and development
  • AFL 360 speculation that Saints are in discussions with Sydney and GWS for trading pick 1 for picks, players, tours of harbour, lunch at Doyles etc
  • Knightmare (BF Draft God) quoted that Pick 1 for Shiel and Pick 4 is fair. That pleases many, various descriptions of what pleasure this trade will bring. Not all PG
  • Thought that if we do trade down to Pick 4, we will still get either Wright or McCartin
  • Posters tiring, fresh Saints posters brought off the bench, but Weagles supporter keeps on going. Does this bugger not eat, drink or go to the toilet?
  • A run of anti Eddie, filth are evil and then finally pins in Collingwood voodoo dolls, with the thought of Collingwood even getting a pick, let alone Pick 1
  • Yesterday we were wanting tickets to the dance, seems today we have changed tack and are instead shaking the tree for possible trades
  • Weagles supporter sensible post. Ahhh his wife must be home from work and she is posting while he naps. He's back. Wow that was a very short power nap
  • An information session run on perceived value and its place in the economy & football trading. It seems that all we have at St Kilda we perceive highly. We just need several other clubs to also drink the kool aid and perceive as highly as well
  • IanW from GWS brings excitement to the thread when he suggests that Saints do what GWS did to Sydney with Lamb last year and take Jaksch, or Frost in PSD.
  • But that is only entree to IanW's banquet of trading suggestions, with one that GWS send #19, Jaksch and Frost to Carlton for #7. GWS send Giles and #23 to Geelong for #16 and GWS then send #4, #7 and #16 to St Kilda for #1
  • Thread starts to groan and smoke clearly coming from it, with the thought that we could trade Pick 1 and get 4, 7 and 16. And more to the point he clearly explains how this is to the benefit of all parties, especially GWS, who lose no core players and upgrade the core with Petracca. Cant see how this scenario would be topped unless the world truly is going mad

And in a highly motivated, Saints Trading Thread, personal address to all players on the forum Kilroy gave a rousing speech, having all of the team motivated and ready to run back on to the forum for the next days play tomorrow:

Wowee.
What a day on this forum. Guess that's why it's gone quiet all of a sudden.
Posts went through the roof as Fred (the mod) allowed a renegade poster to ruffle our feathers with a little reality check. Those who were game to go tete-a-tete found themselves up against a formidable torrent of keystrokes with at least a modicum of intellect and heart to back it up.
Even the big boys laid low as they digested the arguments and decided whether to give him more air.
Must admit I was out of my league, with little appetite for a stoush. Had been feeling for a while that reality was not what we really wanted to hear as much as that Santa had a big sack of presents coming our way.
Seriously hope that our recruiters understand that despite our passion for the Sainters to strike a rich vein of talent and success, we know that Rome wasn't built in a day.
Solid performances from Rahul with some gut-running, Dopey BJ (and others) for "shakin' the tree", and Manimal_Dunstan and Uncle Barrels for some light-hearted look-away handballs.
Well done to Joop who took on a tagging role and ended up shaking hands with his opponent after the game.
AussieRulesRules, TheLastEmperor and Rors showed we can be realistic if we try.
Great to affirm in the end that all seemed to rate St Kilda's list management approach very highly.
May the force be with us as well.

  • (page 614) St_Laz reminded us of 2009 when Port offered Melbourne Picks 8 & 9 for Pick 2. Shows great currency of high picks & that Pick 1 is probably worth Picks 3 and 5,6 or OR 7
  • IanW (GWS) a very fair and reasonable presence on thread. Seems their supporters are as easy to work and trade with as their club
  • Put forward that it won't be picks that will shake GWS stars loose but $$$$$ and lots of it. Wonder if the same thought has occurred to Pelchen, Bains & Co who are prepaying years ahead at the moment, freeing up lots of space for a sensational shopping trip in coming years?
  • Tickets to the dance gone, shaking the tree is now out, as today its throwing bucket loads of cash
  • Speculated that Pick 1 is much much more attractive to GWS, because of the player they will receive at Pick 4 and how he would fit in with their current list
  • Rightly said that the pressure is on other clubs to make trade scenarios for pick 1, not for us. We are in the box seat to either accept great trade deal, or keep pick 1
  • Thought that if Petracca goes at Pick 1, Melbourne will take Brayshaw at Pick 2
  • Lots want to see Carlton, or Bulldogs ask for Moore, so Collingwood have to take him as father / son at Pick 8. Still no love for Collingwood on thread
  • Ahern very highly regarded. Confirmed by Brett Anderson that he is even a smoky for Pick 1. What was he smoking say that?
  • Option of trading Joey to Essendon shot down. Best summed up by TheLastEmperor who said "I wouldn't send any of our players to that pharmaceutical jab farm let alone a champ of our club" Mood on thread is that it is player cruelty, to send players to either Essendon, or Melbourne
  • Options given on how we can involve ourselves in Beams to Brisbane trade and end up with Picks 24 & 28 and lose Armo for this
  • No joy in the trading of Joey, especially if scenario is simply a few point improvement in one draft pick. Far greater value keeping at Saints and for him to stay a life long Saints player
  • Discussion if 3 first round picks by the club is set in stone, clay, sand or jelly. These picks were not every year, but over a few years to get the yearly average of 3 a year?
  • Schneider put forward as a possible addition to any GWS trade, but felt that Schneider is on his last legs and that those wobbly legs, will only be at St Kilda, or retired. Maybe he will also go up to Bendigo with Milne, Baker and Lenny. This local club could be our country retirement home, to send old players to graze out their days
  • Reality of Schneiders failing body, was his toe poke against Gold Coast. Age has caught up with him & he will never be the player he was, or that we need him to be
  • Mowman posted sensational stat of make up of Swans Grand Final Team - 7 players from Swans Rookie List (two of which are All Australian), 4 from other clubs (one of whom was a Rookie there), 5 players who were drafted at Pick 30 or higher and only 5 players that were first round draft picks. That shows both sensational drafting and trading, but a development program that is the envy of every other club in the league
  • Stewart66 posted a very good quote from Pelchen from SEN interview showing light on drafting: "Looking to draft the best player when they can with their picks. e.g. Petracca. This 3 First Rounders stuff is starting to annoy me, because it is the long haul, not a quick fix. Saints need class midfielders & forwards. That is where the game is going. Port Adelaide are a completely different side with Wingard & Wines, but they also picked up guys like Hombsch cheap."
  • And just in case you thought it slipped by and didn't happen today, there was still lots of drooling, lusting, longing and man love for Jeremy Cameron
  • As an aside from trading, Rors wants the players making less videos and having more kicks of footballs into rubbish bins. Not sure if rubbish kicking is improved by introducing rubbish bins, but development of kicking is seen as a priority
  • Contentment & self satisfaction that Liam Jones is not coming to St Kilda, but Carlton. Content & self satisfaction that Liam Jones is going to Carlton
  • Petracca seen as more athletic than Ricciuto Do hope that Petracca is not reading this thread, as will have god like complex soon
  • Late night love shown for Jack Crisp from Brisbane

Saturday September 27th
  • VDS suggests that we shouldn't add any average players to our list, board agrees.
  • IanW posts a link to the contract status of all GWS players, here http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/gws-players-contract-status.1008964/
  • Lots of discussion surrounding SANFL tall midfielder Matt Panos and that he could be the next Barlow. No rumours of where he could be next year.
  • Thunda breaks news that we are currently leading the race for Dylan Shiel
Dylan Shiel wants out & will be traded this year whilst he has currency. It's fight between us and Dees with us in box seat as it stands right now.
  • Half Back Pocket states that we have the golden ticket in Christian Petracca, or Chris Pelchen, but probably Christian Petracca.
  • Tom Lynch from GCS suggested, very little response as that word brings memories of a spud that used to run around in RW&B, traded for very little then became very good. Suns' Lynch is basically untouchable.
  • 1 for 2 +3 or 1 for Shiel + 4? 2 + 3 too much to pay for Pick 1.
  • Suggestion that if we do manage to grab Shiel we should trade Armitage for another pick.
  • GWS poster asks that we put money on the table, re-link to Finnis saying we will overpay for talent from the expansion clubs. Excitement from the posters regarding Shiel.
  • Suggestion that we grab a forward next draft, unfortunately next year's draft is mid-loaded, with Weitering, Schache, Weideman the main talls at this point.
  • Sam Reid is a spud.
  • Poster suggests Jack Steven at Collingwood, no-one wants to see that happen, regardless of the pick.
  • Brian suggests we try to hit 1000 pages of the thread before draft day. If we draft McKenzie, Uncle Barrels may get us there himself!
  • Report that we are into Hannebery from a poster.
Was told that he is the one that Robbo was talking about on AFL360, that we're targeting with #1.

Sunday September 29, 2014

Wow, about 20 pages in one day! Looks like we’re back in business.
  • (page 628) A bit more talk about O’Shea and whether we want him... not so much about how we’d get him. Given that a lot of our tall back flankers are actually getting old or injured, might not be so bad.
  • Lots of talk about trades with either GWS, the Swans, or mixes of both.
  • Of the GWS players, most talk was around Shiel, Cameron, Boyd, Whitfield – mostly Shiel and Whitfield. Usually these were associated with a downgraded pick, so: gun-Giant (or two, if we’re greedy) + #4 for #1, that kind of thing.
  • Note that Whitfield and Shiel are both from near Seaford, as is Jordan Kelly from the Hawks. VERY strong talk that Shiel is leaving, one way or another.
  • With Sydney, most of the talk was around Hannebury or Parker, with someone like Mitchell being a sweetener. Given how late Sydney’s first pick is and that they have to use that on an Academy player, these would be straight swaps: player for #1. Some love this option, some think it’s a bad idea. Talk that we’re asking around at Parker, and that the Swans fans blame him for the loss. Some concern that they only play well in good teams.
  • Patton is discussed as a separate trade here and there, given his value has dropped because of his knee. Not very enthusiastic responses.
  • Talk of a three-way trade: GWS, Sydney, and us – all in a dizzying array of combinations. Basically, we get a player from Sydney and/or GWS, Swans get pick #4, and Giants get #1.
  • A little talk around Milera for Butcher or O’Shea.
  • More about Danger leaving... but we won’t be in for that, you’d think.
  • Opposition fans come and make life complicated. IanW decides to make this thread a discussion of how great the Giants are, and how much we suck. Asks why we don’t want Giles – fuel to the fire.
  • Joffa puts us in our place, basically reminding us that we have the power, because #1 is such a precious commodity.
  • News in media that GWS is desperate to get #1, and will give whatever it takes to get it.
  • Bit more talk about, well, if Tracs is so wanted by GWS, why don’t we just keep him?! Tracs is a damn fine player.
  • Jaksch is still deciding whether to join us or the Blues. Most likely the Blues.
  • Manimal pranks us that Shiel has officially become a Saint with a fake link to the Saints website. Cruel. Brilliant.
  • Alex Fasalo rumoured to have requested a trade. Most aren’t interested.

Monday 30 September

ANOTHER 20 pages yesterday!
  • Jarrad Lyons looks to be coming to us. First rumours (link here) said it was for #21 :(, but then it sounds like it might be for Milera :) . Sheeza spoke to his mum, and he wants to come to us if he can. Lyons is a good player who isn’t getting enough opportunity at Crows seniors, but is killing it at the SANFL.
  • Paul Connors said on Trade Radio (TR), that Shiel won’t be leaving GWS. Some don’t believe Connors (a shifty agent, who knew?), that he’s just trying to raise offers... Even so, leaves Cameron or Whitfield as preferred options.
  • Paul Connors also said Dangerfield was happy... wait for that one...
  • Talk that if we get Jordan Kelly from Hawks (mega cheap), then his mate Shiel and his cousin Whitfield will come, too.
  • 12Chill did a multicoloured, dizzying dream trade... that then got panned (poor fella, after all that hard work... :( )
  • Jay Clark officially announces JOR wants out of GWS, and they want a first rounder for him. No chance. Brett Anderson reckons he’ll come to us.
  • Distraction – Alex Fasalo is staying at another club, so who cares?
  • Great news! AFL announces that all FA draft adjustments will be informed immediately, not at end of period. That’ll make the trade period go much more smoothly.
  • Yet again, GWILT is a FREE AGENT, but has NOT been delisted yet, and thus can get us an FA compo. Question is, will a bidding war erupt for him and bump up his compo?! Unlikely, but we dream.
  • Still looks like we’d be getting Wright or McCartin with #4 if we downgrade to there.
  • Thought Ameet Bains was on TR, turned out to be MATT Bain, but he’s handy too, manager to JOR and Jaksh. Jaksh is choosing between us and Carlton, whoever offers the best trade for Giants. Most don’t WANT them to nominate us, because they will water down our #1 trade with GWS! Jaxons from SS (good source) says the Saints don’t want JOR anyway.
  • Paige Cordona tweeted that we’re going to do a big trade. Most respect Paige for her TAC knowledge, but don’t trust her trade insider qualifications.
  • Brian says the Saints don’t want Shiel anyway.
  • BIG NEWS! Demons have offered picks #2 and #3 for Dangerfield to the Crows!
  • Six clubs are into SANFL Norwood star, Panos... and we’re not one of them.
  • Trout playing a straight bat about the Combine (link here)
  • Defacto’s back! :D Chimes in with a very helpful post summarising all the draft predictors’ #4-10. link here
  • (page 264) Emphatic descriptions of why we don’t want to give #1 for #4 Joaksh and JOR – we have the box seat, they have to ditch those players anyway, they would be list cloggers, etc.

  • TUESDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER

Lots of posts about value of Pick 1 and wanting a best 22 player.
  • Posters discuss whether they would like Greenwood at the club.
  • O'Rourke wanted by Hawks and Saints
  • If we get Pick 4, great possibility that McCartin is still there.
  • How reliable is Jaxons from Saintsational? Via TheLastEmperor, "He said all along we would end up with 3 picks inside 20 and picked the Longer, Bruce and McEvoy deals...to the picks."
  • IanW comes back, ass handed to him by Joffaboy.
  • Jack Steele and Patrick McCartin test well in the reflex test. McCartin praised as "anti-Kosi".
  • Brett Anderson (SEN) has very good Saints sources and thinks we are likely to get both Jaksch and O'Rourke. He also thinks we are keen on Cam O'Shea.
  • Murraj thinks we should recruit our own talent, trading Pick 1 for the picks that O'Rourke and Jaksch are traded on for.
  • Do we want Ash Smith? Probably not.
  • Pelchen wants 3 top 20 talents, maybe not 3 top 20 picks, each year.
  • Brayshaw, Wright, McCartin won't do physical tests at Combine, Lever will only do straight line testing.

Wednesday October 1st

  • (Page 681) For acquiring more round picks, best case scenario may be, Jaksch to Carlton for Pick 7 (change back), JOR to Hawthorn for Pick 19, Pick 1 to GWS, Picks 4, 7 and 19 to Saints. Spread our risk and have three picks inside 20, just from Pick 1
  • Standard Vertical Jump - 4th Petracca, 7th McKenzie
  • Pelch confirms on Trade Radio that we want Jaksch and O'Rourke at Saints. Club has spoken to both players
  • Also said that Pick 1 for Pick 4, Jaksch and O'Rourke is the kind of trade we want. Pelch also said we are happy to go the draft with Pick 1. He is the master of giving the appearance that all options are on the table and could happen
  • Siposs back training already. Pelchen not concerned about Billings. Said "watch this space" Sounds like Billings next or soon in our resigning program
  • Spoke to Saads manager & he is still an option. Pelchen spoke glowingly of Montagna & his & Roos influence with youth. Not going anywhere
  • Pechen interview at https://soundcloud.com/nabtraderadi...ndcloud&utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=twitter
  • GWS flogs on thread replaced by Carlton ones. Fred to investigate whether they may be too closely related. GWS flogs out of bed now & chatty
  • Terry Wallace suggesting Pick 1 for Sydneys Mitchell and Reid. The guy is an idiot
  • St Kilda CEO Matt Finnis said Armo not on trade table, or being shopped around (not sure if that means he will get sold tomorrow though) Finnis also came out & said Pick 3 is way too much for compensation for Frawley. With Montagna & Armo apparently safe, not a lot of options to trade for more round 1 picks
  • Ameet Bains on Saints Pick 1 http://www.saints.com.au/video/2014-10-01/ameet-bains-on-pick-1
  • Reece McKenzie ran a 2.92 (blinder) for 20 metre sprint. This is ELITE for all heights, let alone a big guy
  • Jaxons from SS is adamant, promised & guaranteed that Saints WILL NOT trade Pick 1 for Pick 4, Jaksch and JOR
  • Baynham - 198 cm American runs an amazing 2.81 for 20 metre sprint
  • Past AFL Draft Camp Results http://www.topendsports.com/sport/afl/testing-draft-results.htm
  • Petracca's 7.96 is 12th fastest in past 14 years of camps. He definitely has elite speed
  • Matt Finnis on SEN said that Saints are talking with potential Free Agents, 12 months out from their contract expiring. The GWS contract date list surely taped to the back of his, Pelchens and Bains doors
  • Brett Anderson thinks we are looking at Sydneys Membrey
  • Revealed that McKenzie is former Carlton player Warren McKenzie's son. Now much more interest in selecting him, for him to succeed and give Blues something to bitch about as well as losing Goddard to us
  • Finey (Radio DJ) rant that we won't be trading Pick 1 and getting trade involving JOR & Jaksch. Says you don't give up elite to get 2 players who are not even best 22 at GWS
  • Now in twilight zone, proposed we bring Kelly over from Hawthorn & O'Hanlon from Tigers, as some sort of petting zoo animals, to encourage their mates (Shiel & Whitfield) from GWS to come to the Saints. With these comments we have now officially suspended all reality and reason
  • Jaksch started following Saints on Twitter today. Flurry of excitement until found he also is following Carlton
  • Small interlude while we all laugh at Essendon & Hird. Ahhhh that feels better now
  • Night ends with alcohol, Dunstan winning the Brownlow and Stanley winning the Coleman
  • Beam me up Scotty

Thursday October 2nd
  • (page 698) Trade Winds on afl.com.au reports that Armitage is being linked to the Tigers. Lots being linked to Richmond, so who knows
  • Love for Carlton to take pick 6 for Jaksch - firstly that they would overpay and second we would then want that pick from GWS
  • Nakia Cockatoo (NT) results at combine catching lots of attention
  • Sydney forward Tim Membrey asks for trade http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/dep...y-requests-trade/story-fna8vsun-1227077570836 Would need extensive work if he was to come to St Kilda. Principally on removing his tattoos that look they were done by a drunk Hawaiian 10 year old. Late in day Sydney list Saints as most likely to make deal with
  • Swapping picks 1 and 22 to GWS for Picks 3, 6, 20 a popular trade to more picks, if we do trade Pick 1
  • Frawley nominates Hawthorn as his chosen club. Seems to be for a lower amount that either Fremantle or Geelong. Greedy bugger wants to win games after not having that feeling at Melbourne. Seems more unlikely as each day passes that Melbourne will get compensation Pick 3, but rather at the end of Round 1 Much dancing and joy at that one, except on Melbourne board, where their tales of woe and misery have attracted the attention of Lifeline
  • Manimal shows mock up of Membrey in Saints jumper. Has it ever been done where a club makes a player wear a jumper with only one long sleeve to cover their arm graffiti?
  • Taylor Hunt (Geelong) to Saints, speculated, mocked, jeered, admired, mocked some more, queried and then ignored
  • Richo: It would have to be a pretty attractive deal to let the number one pick go - like something we can't refuse. Good news we are not giving away Pick 1 to any stray club wandering by
  • Lots of discussion on various results of those at Draft Combine
  • Agreed that Membrey tattoo is worse, than even that of US serial killer, Charles Manson
  • Saad super impressive on trade radio. Has spoken with Saints on a regular basis. Hoping to get picked up. All want him to get another chance, either with us or someone else
  • Paul Roos and Alan Richardson both slam Free Agency as top clubs are attracting all of the talent, not Melbourne, Saints, Bulldogs etc http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-10-02/roos-richo-slam-free-agency Well all top clubs except Freo & who would go there unless they are made too?
  • Looks possible that Hawks will give up pick 19 for JOR We now lust after the pick 19 that GWS will have. Seems Hawks will never die wondering, they are willing to trade and take a risk. With two flags the results of this approach are there. Comment that they had made a few misses in last couple of drafts. Fred commented that they are wiping their tears away with their flags.
  • Lots of fringe players being linked to the Saints. But this is not consistent with Saints plan outlined by Pelchen. More likely a combination of lazy journalists picking the bottom clubs to include in list and player managers doing similar to try and bolster trade talks with clubs. We are not a dumping ground for rejects, but rather a home of the elite
  • Bulldogs want to upgrade their Pick 5 to either Pick 2 or 3 from Melbourne. Bulldogs doing this could complicate Saints trading down, as they may be after the player, we think would slide and would have picked up with our downgraded pick. Mmmm last time we speculated on letting someone slide and picking up a couple of picks later was Judd, who went to West Coast. We want them, we will pick them, not wait and hope
  • Some sniping of Brett Anderson & his inside info. Lots to his defence & agreed he is the best source of trade news going around. Not always right, but what is right at this moment, isn't necessarily so in a few more, with new deals, other shiny toys available etc
  • Tommy Walsh delisted at Sydney. Saints received Markworth and Maister for him going to the Harbour City for more opportunity
  • Seems that the club will keep Maverick Weller on the Rookie List. Surprise to many as he was in best 22 last year. Probably to do with tightness of list and having to either upgrade or delist two other Rookies
  • Comment on what a nice change it is to have no scandals and no coach being sacked time of the year. We can sit back with youth re-signings being rolled out each day, sending to a message to all potential draftees and those wanting trades, that we have it together and we are a future power side, that you should long to be at
  • Lots of further self congratulations on how many posts, pages, insightful comments, brilliant trades etc etc we have done this year. Records to be broken, new uncharted volumes of posts to be explored. Heady days for those who love to speculate, plot, plan, devise and analyse

FRIDAY OCTOBER 3RD (PAGE 716-735)
  • AFL.com.au links St Kilda to O'Rourke (unlikely), Jaksch and Taylor Hunt.
  • James Gwilt could be off to GWS.
  • Left_Billings sums up AIS-AFL vs Collingwood VFL game featuring the best prospects in the country here.
  • Taylor Hunt? Schoey? Membrey? Why the fringe players?
  • Christian Petracca goes on Trade Radio, very impressive speaker for an 18yo.
  • Unsure as to how Carlton will secure services of Kristian Jaksch, as they don't want to trade Pick 6 but their 2nd round pick isn't good enough.
  • Bains confirms that we are interested in trading Pick 1 and discussions have started.
  • Christian Petracca pulls out of Time Trial. He has an awkward running style. Alex Neal-Bullen, who Defacto believes we are into, runs a very respectable 9:55. Tom Lamb, grandson of the BOG in the 1966 Grand Final for the Saints, runs an elite time of 9:45 to back up a level 15 beep test.
  • Jack Hiscox (yes Jack Hiscox, not a typo, pronounced as said, Hiscox) breaks Combine record for 3 kilometre time trial with a time of 9:17. Is Academy eligible. Tears of every non-Swan.
  • Nathan Drummond runs 9:59 for 3km time trial to round out a fantastic Combine. Scored top 10 in vertical jump, sprints, beep test, kicking and clean hands. 19 year old was overlooked in the Draft in 2013.
  • Great insight to Saints recruiting: http://www.saints.com.au/video/2014-10-03/recruiters-meeting-exclusive-access
  • Tim Membrey again linked to the Saints, rumour that he will be offered a 3 year deal. A 3rd tall, strong mark, very good kick for goal, no opposition to comment that he would be better than Siposs.
  • Daily Pick 1 discussion, posters warming to the idea we should trade it for Pick 3 and 6 (GWS trade O'Rourke and Jaksch to obtain Pick 6).
  • Nakia Cockatoo, who a few days ago was spoken of by some as a smokey for our 2nd pick, is now likely to go in the teens.
  • Caleb Daniel for a late pick? Why not?

SATURDAY 4TH OCTOBER:

(Page 736)

* felsty starts us off for the day mentioning how the Herald Sun are reporting James Frawley will be on $600k for 5 years which looks like Melb will get pick 3. Uncle Barrels thinks it is travesty while TheLastEmperor thinks it is likely the dogs trade up to pick 3 and grab a tall.

* Uncle Barrels does a few draft orders with some players at different clubs.

* FlyingSledghamer mentions Jarryd Lyons and if the rumour is real or not. Wasn't many responses so who knows!

* Bit of talk about Caleb Daniel being a small forward for us or if he isn't what we want.

* saint sational mentions how the saints posted about Tom Lamb a bit over the combine.

*
Posters are open to the idea of adding Tim Membrey to the list while Dylan Roberton was mentioned as "deadwood" before Uncle Barrels and Armo 20 have a agree to disagree discussion on that.

* Bit of academy talk hits the thread.

* Bit more discussion on the dogs trading up with a scenario being posted "
Pick 1 to GWS for pick 4 and mid teens
Then pick 4 to dogs for pick 5 and ??"

* krk004 posts an article from theroar about Jack Steven not being among the futurefest. Some mention how they would entertain a trade while others are full on against the idea of trading Stevo. Few trade scenarios thrown up mainly involving Melbourne.

* BrianSpeaking comes in and gives us the following
" Okay lads, after a week at the draft combine here it is for all of you.......The Raging Bull is our man at pick one and it will have to take some EXTRAORDINARY to prise pick one away from us.
Play on......."

"Ollie Wines would be extraordinary...hint hint hint...."

* AaronSCHQ finally joins bigfooty with a great first post. http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threa...ft-free-agency.1047381/page-739#post-35489023

* TheLastEmperor almost scares Aaron away by mentioning every new poster but have Brendon Goddard in a bombers uniform as their picture for the first month! With Aaron saying he'd rather close down his account!

* Defacto posts a video of the Heritier Lumumba speach from the pies best and fairest and it sparks a bit of discussion of how funny but also stupid it is.

* Uncle Barrels posts about Hugh Beasley 20m sprint time of 2.88.

* Plugger35 heard on 6pr this morning that we're looking at trading pick 1 to GWS for two top 17 picks and Defacto mentions that Adam White also said this on ABC Grand stand.

* Question is asked would we trade pick 1 for pick 4 & 7? some agree and like the idea while Rahul posted a bit of information on the success rate between players taken at pick 1 and pick 4 + 7 in drafts.

* Smoke_Me_AKipper mentions that people need to remember the Jack Steven of 2 years ago when he won the B&F not the injury riddled 2013 Jack Steven.

* Article about Christian Petracca and other prospects is posted: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/christ...draft-pick-20141004-10q7wt.html#ixzz3F9azZ7Xy

* AaronSCHQ is back again with another good post this time about Tim Membrey after Left_Billings wanted to know why some of us think Tim would be a good inclusion. View that here: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threa...ft-free-agency.1047381/page-744#post-35494167

* L_W_P Questions the news about Membrey after we took White, Wright, Murdoch and Saunders before him in the national draft before BrianSpeaking later posts that the club rated Membrey but Scott Watters was more keen on TDL.

* Herald Sun finally linking us with Tim Membrey (bit slow guys we already knew!) - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...o-levi-greenwood/story-fni5f986-1227079983193

* BlacreJacks also joins bigfooty and starts with a bang! great first post: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threa...ft-free-agency.1047381/page-745#post-35495149

* Post from daid222 about Superfooty saying the following: "likely to pursue fringe Geelong midfielder Taylor Hunt." - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...ncy-draft-period/story-fnp04d70-1227074447591

Sunday October 5th
  • (Page 747) Consensus that retaining Pick 1 and drafting Petracca will gain Saints membership, sponsors hope for the still dark, dark days ahead
  • Apparently Saints have rejected from GWS Pick 4 & Jaksch, & Pick 4, Jaksch & O'Rourke (Brett Anderson first of these)
  • Going on supporters posts we will keep Pick 1, as we want the sky for a trade and clubs are only proposing table scraps. Welcome to Saints Petracca
  • Dogs want McCartin http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...eded-key-forward/story-fni5fazt-1227079437357
  • Periphery posted an interesting table evaluating value of trades An interesting way of looking at trade scenarios http://hurlingpeoplenow.tumblr.com/post/98964610922/hpn-draft-pick-trade-value-chart-v1
  • Seems high likelihood now that Saints player Tim Membrey is St Kilda bound Possibly Round 3 pick onwards given up
  • Discussion that further players will need to be delisted or traded, if we land those who want to come or that we are interested in. Highly likely Schneider will be delisted, Simpkin / Siposs traded. Some hard decisions to be made over the coming fortnight
  • Discussion and analysis of trading pick 1, with names of previous pick 1's against Pick 4 & 7's from previous years. Safer to keep, higher risk to trade Pcik 1
  • Noticeable improvement with Sunday morning postings from new Saints forum members that don't have hangovers. Can we put them on long term contracts
  • Lengthy discussions on trading of Jack Steven. Brought to the fore, as he hasn't signed past the end of the 2015 season yet. Does he want to stay? Should we trade him now whilst he still has value? Is he simply surfing at Lorne and too busy with that to sign contract extensions etc? Is Pelchen running him on that contract to the end of 2015 and then out of contract, free agent, get up a high high pick next year. Too many options, opinion divided
  • Rahul posted video of Petracca in lunch time basketball slam dunk contest at Whitefriars College. This kid can jump and is very impressive.
  • Agreed that some of the press missed the point of the recent signings, that they are all of young players who have just come to the club, not older, more established players - hence its name, FutureFest
  • Saints remain keen on Jaksch & O'Rourke, but don't want Pick 1 to be involved in these trades. Maybe Armo, in swap, or Armo via third party to secure them both (source AFL.com.au)
  • Carlton won't trade Pick 6 for Jaksch and are trying to involve a 3rd party in making this happen http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/trade-panel-20141005-10qjvz.html#ixzz3FFbCkIGE
  • Agreed that North's Greenwood (3rd in their B&F) is a very good player, but cost too much in picks and cash for where we are now. Pass
  • Ahhhh the ritual drooling of Jeremy Cameron to Saints. This time of the day reserved for the religious and those who believe in miracles
  • O'Rourke less likely for Saints, as appears may be going to Hawthorn. Yes like Sydney they seem to have room for everyone
  • Late rally of interest in Greenwood, if he comes to us for nothing, via PSD - yes we love a free, very good player acquisition scenario
  • Some confusion of the road to 2018. Some see it as a highway there, whilst others think we are taking the dirt track to get there
  • http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-10-03/a-nobody-every-team-wants Swans academy draftee Isaac Heeney had three drafting interview appointments, Swans (who will take him), Saints (who want to make contact to pick him up in the future) and Carlton (who cancelled at the last moment, as they couldn't be bothered)
  • Seems that Saints will bid on Melbourne father / son Billy Stretch and GWS academy player Jack Steele, making both clubs have to use their second picks. Why? Because we can
  • Port Adelaide's O'Shea is wanted, but surprise, surprise, we want him cheap
  • Carlton not getting any level of compensation pick for Waite, has stopped them from using that pick to secure Jaksch from GWS. Mild smirking, laughter at Carlton's misfortune with this
  • adambrown posted that Saints currently linked to: Membrey 188cm 90 kg forward, O'Shea 194cm 90kg defender, Jaksch 195cm 85kg defender and O'Rourke 188cm 75kg midfielder
  • MiamiTwice posted excellent videos on O'Shea St Kilda 2014 - Trade / Draft / Free Agency
  • Trade Week / Trade Fortnight / Trade Eternity starting today. Could this be the start of more twists, turns, revelations, shocks, disgust and delight? All will be revealed soon
