List Mgmt. Draft Discussion 2016

Just noticed there isn't technically a drafting thread for this year. Note that the Mods don't want the kind of mega-thread we've had over the last few years, as it can become unmanageable, both for us and for them. As such, they've already set up a Trade and FA thread to discuss potential players we could get that are ALREADY in the system. Therefore, THIS thread is only about young guys, those in the TAC, AIS and other junior competitions, as well as the work done by Trout & Co in assessing those kids.

heres some stuff on petrosvki setton (spelling?) WA's best prospect:
he was amazing as a 17 year old last year. was pretty much WAs best player. if he went in the draft, he would have been taken before ah chee, probably wouldnt have gone past melbourne or essendons pick. he is tipped to go pick 1 in the upcoming draft, which given how early it is we all know how that can change

more importantly for those so vocal about how great the acadamies are, its quite probable, that he would have ended up in a zone that will be announced soon, given he comes from far up north at halls creek. do people really think its a good idea that a player tipping to go pick 1, who would otherwise be successfully developed by the WAFC at the Claremont Tigers and WA state squad, should be going to Freo and WCE with a 25% discount. it absolutely stinks

and this is the issue we are about to face moving fwd in 3-4 years time when the players start coming through this academies and are eligible for the draft

this kid has been tipped to go pick 1, since the age of 15/16:
Halls Creek midfielder Sam Petrevski-Seton could develop into a footballer unlike any other, according to WAFL talent manager Raff Guadagnino.

Petrevski-Seton, 16, yesterday was awarded the Kevin Sheehan Medal for best player of the AFL under-16 championships.

The Claremont colts player, described as an inside midfielder who can play forward, averaged 21 disposals and five clearances and kicked seven goals in his three games for WA.

It was the second championships in a row he was named player of his division after dominating for WA North-West as a bottom-aged player in the third division last year.

League sources were glowing in their assessment of the teenager yesterday, declaring him the early favourite to be the No.1 pick in the 2016 AFL draft.

Guadagnino said it was hard to compare Petrevski-Seton, listed at 182cm and 72kg, with other footballers when they were the same age but said those behind the State program were excited about watching him grow when he steps up to under-18 level.

"I think he's a diamond in the rough," Guadagnino said.
"He's an inside mid who can play up forward as well, a roving type. He covers a lot of ground, is a fierce tackler, great team player and he gets his players involved in the game.
"He's different. He has the make-up of a number of players I've seen over the years but he's his own player."

WA's Sam Petrevski-Seton was awarded the Kevin Sheehan Medal as Division One's best and fairest player at the conclusion of the NAB AFL National 16s Championships on the Gold Coast today.

heres a good channel 7 sport piece on him from the other day:

this kid is so good, i would give up our first and 2nd rounder for him right now. i wouldnt even think twice about it

he's someone we could chuck on the flank or the wing and just know he will be the difference

HORSHAM Saints and North Ballarat Rebels young gun Jarrod Berry has been highlighted as the next big AFL Draft chance off the back of Darcy Tucker’s selection by Fremantle on Tuesday night.

Berry was a bottom-age Rebels player in 2015 and will step up next year as he looks to continue to impress scouts and club recuiters.

Berry was part of the under-17 AFL Academy in 2015 and earned All-Australian selection after a strong year on-field.

Average-size (around 182cms) indigenous prospect seen as one of the best players in the draft and already high on people's lists is Jy Simpkin.

Versatile player who could play in the midfield or forward. All class, no real weaknesses and rises to big occasions.

From the tiny bit I've seen of Berry, I'm not caught up in the hype. I wasn't a fan of his kicking action - sounds picky but would need a lot of work to succeed in the big time. Its unconventional and high ball drop.

Petrevski Seaton is supposedly a much better prospect than both Jack Martin and Jeager O'Meara at junior level. They were outstanding juniors but are meant to be a step down from SPS. I can't wait to see how good he must be. We still haven't seen Jack martin because of injury but some said he was the best kid ever out of WA.

He is absolutely unreal.

A mix of Cyril Rioli and our own Jack Billings. So so SO smooth.

Could someone with the knowledge do a rough top 20?

Is the top end mids or kpp's?
The top end may well be mostly mids this year. Here's ten players Cal Twomey reckons will feature prominently in this year's draft:

Ben Ainsworth
178cm/73kg
DOB: 10/2/98
Gippsland Power/Vic Country
Small forward

Ainsworth would have been a very early selection at this year's draft had he been eligible. His form this season was terrific as a small forward for Gippsland Power and he booted 15 goals for Vic Country to win All Australian selection. The teenager is brilliant and smart in the air, an accurate kick and has a nice dose of flair around goal. He looks set to be one of the most exciting prospects of next season.

Jarrod Berry
191cm/80kg
DOB: 5/2/98
North Ballarat Rebels/Vic Country
Tall defender

With great dash and physicality, Berry has some special skills as a running tall defender. Because of his range of traits, he can be played on the wing and across half-forward as well, and spent stages of this season in different spots. Berry is tough and hard at the ball, and showed that across Vic Country's carnival as a bottom-ager, when he was awarded All Australian honours. His season was cut short by shoulder surgery.

Jack Bowes
187cm/76kg
DOB: 26/1/98
Surfers Paradise/Queensland
Midfielder

Bowes has the size and temperament to play in a number of spots. The rangey midfielder can be used in an inside role, but also on the wing or across half-forward, where his overhead marking comes to the fore. Bowes has great evasive skills in traffic and although not being exceptionally quick, he finds a way out of trouble whenever he's in it. Bowes is a member of the Gold Coast academy and looks likely to be the Suns' first top-line academy product.

Will Brodie
187cm/80kg
DOB: 23/8/98
Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country
Midfielder

Brodie was a consistent member of Vic Country's title-winning midfield at the championships this year and will be a prospect who will keep improving his game next season. The hard and tough midfielder is great at the stoppages, works his way into the contest through sheer running power, and has the height to outbody opponents around the ball.

Harrison Macreadie
195cm/82kg
DOB: 11/4/98
Henty/NSW-ACT
Tall defender

Macreadie looks to be one of the best tall prospects in next year's group. He has the size to hold down centre-half back and the athleticism to play on the wing. Macreadie uses the ball cleanly, can take marks overhead and isn't afraid to tuck the ball under his arm and go for it. He is a member of the Greater Western Sydney academy zone. Get ready for the debate to rage again about the Giants' access to the Riverina region.

Brandon Parfitt
177cm/72kg
DOB: 27/8/98
Nightcliff/North Adelaide/NT
Midfielder

A courageous and tough small midfielder who attacks the ball ferociously. Parfitt is precise by hand and foot, and clever around goal as well. He showed those traits for the Northern Territory at this year's division two championships. He was named his team's MVP for the carnival and was also selected in the All Australian team on the interchange. Has been playing in South Australia this year after relocating from the NT.

Sam Petrevski-Seton
179cm/70kg
DOB: 19/2/98
Claremont/WA
Midfielder

There won't be many players with more class in the 2016 draft crop than Petrevski-Seton. The smooth-moving West Australian is crisp and deft on both feet, and smart with his hands as well. He is an early candidate as one of the first couple of players picked next season due to his speed, finishing skills and game sense. He mixes his skill with a hard attack on the ball and some flashiness in the air, and was named an All Australian this year.

Jonty Scharenberg
185cm/77kg
DOB: 28/8/98
Glenelg/South Australia
Midfielder

The younger brother of Collingwood defender Matt Scharenberg, the South Australian midfielder is classy with the ball and impressed this year at senior level in the SANFL. He's shorter than his brother and plays in a different way, but is strong over the contest and wins plenty of his own touches. He's able to combine that with good ball use and he also likes to float forward and hit the scoreboard when he can.

Jy Simpkin
181cm/73kg
DOB: 5/3/98
Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country
Small forward

Simpkin had some electric moments for Vic Country at under-18 level this year and will be expecting to have even more in 2016. The half-forward has pace and smarts, and is deadly around goal, snapping some brilliant shots throughout the year. He will be aiming to push up the ground a little more next year but is always dangerous when in possession and is damaging by foot.

Alex Witherden
185cm/77kg
DOB: 10/9/98
Geelong Falcons
Half-back

A composed and attacking half-back, Witherden's draft hopes grew towards the end of this season as he started to control games for the Geelong Falcons. His class and penetrating kicking was valuable at TAC Cup level, and he won selection in the NAB AFL Academy level two squad. Witherden has a good mix of toughness and skill, and will be a player to watch develop throughout 2016.

Allison will be in top 10

Unfortunately will be Brisbane bound.

Disappointingly yes. Also Jack Bowes is tied to Brisbane and Harrison Macreadie to GWS.

According to Twomey, another worth keeping an eye on is Jack Scrimshaw of the Sandy Dragons. Interestingly he's been playing as a tall defender, but he apparently has the evasive moves and poise to play as a tall midfielder. He's already 193cms.

Pretty strong year in my opinion. And we will have to make the right choice with our first pick, seeing as we won't have a 2nd rounder (unless we trade).
My favs for our pick would be (Hoping to be around pick 8 or 9);

1. Will Brodie
2. Sam Petrevski-Seton
3. Jy Simpkin
4. Jonty Sharenberg
5. Jarrod Berry

Try to hunt down the WA game they played in Geelong last year. He is a freak!

Im with Defacto. If there is any chance we can get him, take it.

It's likely to need us to trade for number 1 pick with Essendon. Fat chance.

I think we've got more chance of trading into the first with a mixture of picks and fringe players. Try and get 2 first rounders - Brodie and simpkin are best mates so I'd be aiming to snag both.

Jack Bowes is actually Gold Coast but knew what you meant Queensland bound.

Agree with Barrels Will Brodie.

However there 4 other players in all I really like as well.

Noah Hura

Josh Battle

Sam Powell -Pepper

And if we do trade a ruckman Jeremy Goddard.

Have to feel sorry for GWS ...they have 5 academy kids

Maccreadie Probably their 1st pick then
Zach Sproule
Connor Byrne
Kobe Mutch
William Setterfield

Going to be some movement on GWS list at end of the year.

If we're still keen on a ruck/fwd at the end of the season, get on this kid...

Luke Strnadica - 199cm 88kg - ruckman/key forward.
Genuine developing tall. Agile and athletic with clean hands below his knees. Kicks with both feet and has displayed very good goal sense.

image.jpeg

Kicked 33.12 in 12 Colts games last year as a 17yr old.

Or, and not just for the name, another WA prospect, Claremont's 202cm 97kg Jeremy Goddard.

image.jpeg

He's big and aggressive, though at this stage he's definitely more of a ruckman than a key position type.
