The GF Eve public holiday is the exact return of Show Day. Next thing the RMS can do is lower the entry prices.

Wut? The show goes from 19 to 29 September. The new public holiday is on 2 October. A good name for it is WTF day.

Jane.

Here are the unfortunate facts of what is going on.
:D
In the 1990's, for whatever reason,

For whatever reason?

Let's try the following:

The State of Victoria was bankrupt Pazza. :D
The State bank of Victoria where ordinary Victorians had kept their savings since 1842 had gone bust Pazza.:D
Victorians were fleeing the state every year and moving to Queensland Pazza.:D

That is, Pazza, Victoria had been turned by the Cain and Kirner governments into a rust bucket state.:(:(:(

Exactly where Victoria today is headed under the CFMEU premier, Pazza.

Next?

Are Victorian's used to not needing to stand on trains? Not that I ever thought it was ideal but the local train line in Perth is the only one considered to pay for itself and that's packed like sardines at peak times.
Nah, standing is normal. I imagine the people complaining are pointing out that the standing part of the journey is happening further out from the destination that before. V/Line released stats suggesting they are moving more people than before, and I had heard that the RRL was about changing the travel situation for Metro and Regional around peak hour (rather than making for quicker travel overall), but you would've hoped that they didn't need time to work out kinks after spending that sort of cash.

FORMER deputy prime minister Tim Fischer says Geelong train commuters have been “massively short-changed” with the new line and timetable to Melbourne.

He said a rail flyover was originally planned on the Regional Rail Link project at Deer Park, but the decision not to include it had created “Choke Point Charlie on the line”, slowing trains to a maximum speed of 65km/h.

He said poor timetabling was also a problem, with the lack of a true express service to Melbourne in the morning peak period jeopardising patronage.

Meh who gives a s**t about people commuting to Melbourne CBD from Geelong. Hopefully they were short changed for the Ballarat and Bendigo commuters. The only other 2 cities in this state worthy of recognition other than Melbourne.

:D:D

Mr Fischer, a passionate rail advocate and former federal Nationals leader, said it should have been there from the start.

“The real problem underlying the upgrade is the fact the world’s newest broad-gauge railway junction at Deer Park West was put in with no overhead rail flyover and with turnout points restricted to 65km/h for trains that would otherwise travel at up to 160km/h,” he said.

“The result is that every train from Geelong, especially in the morning peaks, can block every train going to Ballarat.”

Rust bucketry at its finest. Roll on the Metro rail link and the demolished level crossings.:D:D

Can't remember Jane posting so much on Victorian politics since Andrews became Premier.

Where was she when the do nothing Libs were in Government?

She was in an ecstatic state telling herself that the Napthine Government knew how to be tough on building workers, single mothers, bludgers, cue jumping refos and people that don't live in the Golden Triangle #nogazebonocitizen

Reading this thread and seeing a post from her reminds me of Dicky Knee on Hey Hey its Saturday.

And here's the bit Lester and GJ didn't quote:
The decision not to build the flyover was endorsed by previous governments, but the door has been left ajar to include it down the track.
They might also tempter their criticism if they realised that Baillieu reviewed the project before construction went ahead, so Fischer's criticism is bi-partisan.

Of course the major difference between the Cain government and the CFMEU Premier's rustbucket is that John Cain was not taken hostage by the Left and the feral wing of the union movement until half way through its third term when the Left, the unions and the Labor lawyers (like Cntra) combined to destroy the Labor government and make it unelectable.
By contrast, today's Labor premier was already hostage to the CFMEU by the time he was elected, as is the new premier in Qld and the Federal Opposition Leader who may become the first CFMEU prime minister.

Every time I see you post in this thread you make me laugh.
I really would see someone about your fixation on CFMEU.
I thought Shorten would have been owned by AWU?

Let's be fair to Guru - if repeating yourself over and over again didn't work politically, Steve Bracks would never have become premier.
Nor Abbott Prime Minister.

She was doing nothing; inspired by the example set by Baileu and Napthine :)

That matthew guy is saying the government should just get on with implementing clearways on punt road.

First thing th bailleu govt did on being elected ? Removed clearways
That was a little different. The clear ways they removed were in Toorak and Armidale. Didn't want to impact the businesses of their dinner party friends .

So it was the show day holiday that sent Victoria broke? * me. I knew all along it wasn't big business lending money to people that couldn't afford to pay it back. Bloody workers; always putting time with their family ahead of the country.

Bullshit and you know it.

Victoria's woes started with the lack of respect Sir Henry Bolte had for those on the western and northern side of the Yarra...we out here are still struggling to catch up to the malaise left behind by Bolte, Hamer and Thompson. Had these men and Kennett actually gave these areas what they desperately needed from 1960 to 1983 and from 1993 to 1999, then things like the RRL wouldn't have needed to be built in recent years, as it would have already been in place.

The only reason why Victorians were leaving had nothing to do with Labor...it had everything to do with Sir Joh's horrifically low taxes, which have hamstrung QLD for nearly 50 years.

The Victorian economy is actually in a pretty good place right now.
