GLENROY FC -STRONG EDFL DIV 2 Team have had a late pull out and are very keen for a Practise match this weekend. Contact Senior coach Brett Jefferies on 0438056088 will organize.

The battle to climb from Division 2 to Division 1 will, again, be an interesting tussle. Can Bayswater go one better? Can Lilydale rally after relegation? And what of the challenge from Doncaster East and Montrose? Today, the combatants tell CONOR RYAN wh

BAYSWATER
Coach: Bernie Dinneen
Last year: 14-4 ( runners-up) Ins: Jesse Baker ( South Croydon), Garry Davies, Patrick Iellamo, Billy O’Loughlin, Adam Waterhouse ( VAFA), Jarrod Gardam ( Norwood), Paul Harper ( Coldstream), Wayne Mcinerney ( Vermont), Benjamin Mitchell ( The Basin), Samuel Nevins ( Picola and District Football Netball League), Steven Stallion ( Southern Football League ( SA)).
Outs: Rodney Church ( Boronia), Kyle Emley ( Vermont), Jesse Field ( VFL & TAC CUP), Benn Fischer ( South Croydon), Bradley Harbinson ( Doncaster East), Dylan Mclaren ( Ellinbank & District Football League), Jayden Murphy ( Eastern Lions), Leigh Murphy ( Eastern Lions).
Coach’s comments: ‘‘ Definitely, on paper, we’ve got a stronger list than last year. For us, anything less than a premiership is a failure. That doesn’t mean we won’t fail. Right here and right now, that’s our goal. If we don’t win it, it’s a failure.’’
DONCASTER EAST
Coach: Jason Hardwick
Last year: 10-8 ( fourth) Ins: Daniel Gordon ( Coldstream), Adrian Fancellu, Ben Lowson, Jai Hardwick ( Donvale), John Laver ( Sydney AFL), Joel Pirotta ( Blackburn), Justin Van Unen ( AFL Queensland), James Wigg ( Forest Hill).
Outs: Alex Rowell ( Northern Territory Football League), Daniel Tzemis ( VAFA).
Coach’s comments: ‘‘ We’re going to be very young again. I’d be disappointed if we didn’t aim at improvement on last year. I’d like to think we could progress. We’ve just got to make sure we’ve covered all the bases.’’
DONVALE
Coach: Brendan McCormack ( new)
Last year: 5-12-1 ( ninth) Ins: Peter Ancona ( VAFA), Travis Brown ( Gippsland League), Duirmus Celik ( EDFL), Braeden Cross ( Mitcham), Nick Lannen ( VAFA), Andrew Pettigrove ( Murray Football League), Travis Schwennesen ( Tallangatta & District Football League).
Outs: Marcus Boyd ( MPNFL), Adrian Fancellu, Jai Hardwick, Ben Lowson, Daniel Mead ( Doncaster East), Thomas Hall, David Withers ( VAFA), Nicholas Harbeck, Rory Harbeck, Stuart Ross ( North Ringwood), Owen Mcclean ( Doncaster), Adam Watson ( Doncaster).
Coach’s comments: ‘‘ Things have turned around here; certainly, there’s a positive vibe. We think we’ve put together a pretty competitive list. I’d think our team will be better than last year. It needed to be.’’
LILYDALE
Coach: Simon Rourke Last year: 3-14-1 ( relegated from division one)
Ins: Ross Ansaldi ( Warrandyte), Tim Bakey, Jamie Cruickshank, Stephen Cruickshank, David Jackson, Adam Mowat ( Coldstream), Joshua Barrett ( North Ringwood), Corey Berntsen ( Kilsyth), Tom Fitzmaurice ( NFL), David Hill, Grant Hill, Joshua Hill, Mitchell Jacobs ( Croydon), Luke Mowat, Matthew Wright ( YVMDFL), Mitchell Needham, Jay Pumpa ( VAFA), Nathan O’Keefe ( VFL & TAC CUP), Benjamin Power ( Ringwood), Daniel Severino ( North Ringwood).
Outs: Luke Armstrong ( SFL), Keiran Brumby, Braeden Chivers, Luke Chivers, Cameron Linford ( Mooroolbark), Joel Crowther, Nicholas Mende, Caillin Porter, Matthew Thurkle, Lachlan Curren ( YVMDFL), Mathew Cunningham ( AFL Cairns), Mark Haynes ( VAFA), Marcus Hottes ( West Australian Football League), Mark Pasini ( Montrose), Jarrod Rowe, Matt Tesoriero ( Silvan).
Coach’s comments: ‘‘ There’s no doubt it’ll take time for our new players to get to know each other. It’ll be a few games in before we see the best of them. I’ll certainly be looking at finals. It’s a bit hard to predict further than that. Coming back a division we’re not sure what we’re in for.’’
MONTROSE
Coach: Troy Simmonds
Last year: 11-7 ( third) Ins: Ashley Boyd ( SFL), Tim Costigan, Darcy Moreland, Jake White ( YVMDFL), Benjamin Hicks ( East Ringwood), Joel King ( VAFA), Mark Pasini ( Lilydale), Fraser Pope ( VFL & TAC CUP), Benjamin Simpson ( West Perth DFDC), Alan Stride ( Ringwood).

Coach’s comments: ‘‘ I think everyone’s committed to what we want to implement this year. We’ll have some times where it doesn’t work really well. I haven’t put too much expectation on where we’ll be at the end of the year. I just want them to play their roles.’’
MOOROOLBARK
Coach: Bernie Ryan
Last year: 7-11 ( seventh) Ins: Keiran Brumby, Braeden Chivers, Luke Chivers, Cameron Linford ( Lilydale), Dean Leary, Darren Spence ( YVMDFL), Adam Miles ( Bayswater), Christopher Nayna ( East Burwood), Sam Ward ( Mitcham).
Outs: Mehmed Bektas ( Eastern Lions), Ric Hardy, James Mcmanus, Thomas Price ( YVMDFL), Brett Hartman ( Silvan), Bradley Olson ( SFL), Alex Wadsworth ( NFL).
Coach’s comments: ‘‘ We’d like to make finals. Last year was a learning curve for us. We had a lot of injuries, but we’ve learnt about the division and we’d like to think we can take the next step. It’s definitely our aim this year to push up the ladder.’’
ROWVILLE
Coach: Paul Mynott ( new)
Last year: 9-9 ( fifth) Ins: Malith Amarasekera ( Noble Park), Kris Barlow ( Blackburn), Marc Hardy, Nathan Hicks, David Mathers, Jonathan Roberts, Christopher Toth ( Scoresby), Andrew Medland ( VAFA).
Outs: Joseph Beech ( VAFA), Hayden Crozier, Paul Seedsman ( VFL & TAC CUP), Matthew Pierce ( Ellinbank & District Football League), Jake Rowe ( Canterbury), Callum Rutherford ( MPNFL), Cameron Smith ( South Belgrave).
Coach’s comments: ‘‘ I still believe we’re a genuine finals threat. My personal belief is that, in second division, anyone can win. If we can get on a roll, then we can win enough games to make finals. We can certainly figure in the end of the season.’’
UPPER FERNTREE GULLY
Coach: Andy Hayman
Last year: 14-4 ( premiers division three) Ins: Michael Barnes ( East Ringwood), Giles Blewitt ( Blackburn), Sean Currey ( Knox), James Gautrey ( AFL Queensland), Jack Mazurek, Christopher Michaliades ( Knox), Jonti Rowe ( AFL Riverina), Cory Tuckey ( Scoresby). Outs: Jackson Seamer ( YVMDFL).
Coach’s comments: ‘‘ It’s going to be a step up for our guys. They’ll need to play the game-plan well all the time. We’re going to have periods of inconsistency. We just need to get off to a reasonable start. I think we’ll be competitive in the division.’’
WANTIRNA SOUTH
Coach: Matt Clark
Last year: 6-12 ( eighth) Ins: Samuel Kenny ( Ferntree Gully Eagles), James O’Reilly ( YVMDFL), Callum Ransom ( MPNFL), Jack Stow ( VAFA).
Outs: Lachlan Bain ( Scoresby), Shaun Crow ( Eastern Lions), Mark Emmerson ( Mitcham), Anthony Papa ( VFL & TAC CUP), Luke Smith ( Alberton Football League), Peter Spence ( NFL), Liam Swain ( Forest Hill), Sean Williams ( Glen Waverley Hawks), Aaron Young ( SANFL), Adem Yusuf ( Eastern Lions).
Coach’s comments: ‘‘ The group’s going really well. They’re as fit as I could get them at the moment. Most of our development will come from our younger players; I expect us to improve. Hopefully, our fitness work will pay dividends in the long run. General feeling around the place is of confidence.’’
WAVERLEY BLUES
Coach: Scott Hunter
Last year: 7-10-1 ( sixth) Ins: Cameron Adam, Charlie Ampt ( AFL Capricornia), Tom Allen, Glenn Garland, Luke Johnson, Hamish Leahy ( Blackburn), Jayden Bradley ( Subiaco DFDC), Troy Fairbairn, Alex Mullucks ( VAFA), Russell Hardacre( AFL Queensland), Tas Hronopoulos ( Forest Hill), Samuel Johnson ( EDFL), Benjamin Smith ( Whitehorse Pioneers).
Outs: Mitchell Hayes ( VFL & TAC CUP), Dean Hislop ( AFL Cairns), Tom Miles ( East Burwood), Rohan Nolan ( Loddon Valley Football League).

Coach’s comments: ‘‘ This is our third year in second division and, like everyone, we want to play finals. That’s a minimum expectation. It’s a matter of who works hard. We’re aiming for finals and we’ll be working hard to achieve that

Brendan McCormack: Back to the beginning
29 Mar, 2011 01:12 PM
FOR retired AFL player Brendan ‘‘Billy’’ McCormack, the decision to return to Donvale Football Club as coach was a no-brainer. The former Fitzroy and Brisbane Bears midfielder left the spotlight in 1994 after 56 games and later played footy “on and off” for Donvale. This year marks his debut as coach of both the senior and under 13 teams.
McCormack is thrilled to be back where it all started. “I played junior footy at Donvale and was coached by senior guys 15 years

older than me,” he says. “Now, I play golf with them.”

Although McCormack says the highlight of his career was playing professionally, returning to grassroots family-oriented football at Donvale is where his passion lies.

Goady, I'm surprised a number of EFL scribes have Donvale down for relegation in 2011. With a forward line already boasting Purcell, they've recruited big Ben Torney from Warrandyte and Blake Kelly from Winchelsea. Cramp returns to the fold as well and that's a handy forward line. Probably won't challenge Montrose and other top teams but will kick enough goals to stay in Div 2. My 2 bob for what it's worth.
Big watch on Blake Kelly - the boy can seriously play!

Almost as good as a win

A DRAW can often be a deflating result for both teams involved, but Donvale is buzzing after it held EFL Division 2 premiership-fancy Montrose to a stalemate in their Round 1 clash at Donvale Reserve on Saturday.

The reinvigorated Magpies, who narrowly-avoided relegation last year, took it up to the 2010 preliminary finalists, taking a 19-point lead in to half-time.

Montrose closed that gap to 10 points at the final change before a wild last quarter, in which the teams shared 13 goals, with Donvale kicking six-straight to the Demons' 7.4

Yeah I expected them to improve with their forward inclusions but didn't expect them to get close to Montrose. A few things went their way when 17 points down with 5 minutes to go. Wind changed around to their end, Kane Johnson didn't play the final quarter (hammy or calf by the look of it) and big Simmonds didn't play at all.
Credit to the club for recruiting well. They were down on their knees at the completion of last season and many didn't expect them to survive at all. One small issue - the records were sold out by half time of the ressies. Not sure if this was a league problem or club but it made it difficult to see who was who at the start of a new season.
Two standouts - Number 50 for Montrose was everywhere and #29 for Donvale down back.

An extremely impressive rally by Donvale men of the past will see Donvale through. Consider the colts lucky to have a bloke such as Kevin Collins to Guide young men through to the seniors.
Box Hill premiership player. 170 VFA games- Box Hill, Oakleigh, and Port Melbourne. Coached EFL side South Croydon to premierships in 1990-91 and 93.
Coached Donvale to the 94 and 96 premierships.
Kevin has also coached de la salle in the VAFA, and the Victorian womens team to a national premiership.
Kevin has been the Box Hill Hawks assistant coach during the last three seasons.

It's shame someone of his caliber isn't taking the U19 coaching job at Donvale seriously this year.

Barks two wins away from Division One. Rowville out in straight sets from first this week, and a Derby Grand Final against Montrose next week which would be a cracker.

How good of a ground is Jubilee Park, much better than some of the other grounds I've been to this season :p

In great nick. Particularly compared to Heights reserve - worst condition it's ever been in and that's saying something.

Jubilee just too bloody big. Those wings are 3/4 the size of Heights in total!

Yeah that's one of the things i noticed when I arrived there last week, massive wings. Ground in a fairly good condition, good venue for the finals too I think.

Who'd you go see Dan?

U19 UFG(3rd) v Donvale(4th)

Donvale got smacked, never looked like winning the game. Disappointing considering they beat UFG earlier in the season.

Cost me $13 to get in and I had to have my boot opened for inspection so that I wasn't sneaking anyone else or alcohol into the venue

Yeah caught the end of that one.

They are red hot on sneaking booze into the finals - they make an absolute mint.

Thought i would bump this page to see who if anyone out there from Div 2..

Waverley Blues back in training for 2 weeks now under new Coach Brett Davidson. Seems to be a new lease on life around the place. Few new faces around also which is good!
