Roots century was the difference between the sides...he brings an incredible amount of confidence to the batting unit. if he starts losing form then I would be really worried. Him and stokes seem to have nice batting partnerships, they always look busy...great to watching from a batting purist standpoint.

I really don't think they need much change and their team looks pretty settled, one big concern is the openers, who have really struggled to see off the new ball exposing Balance and Bell too early. If Cook and Lyth can start to get settled and be able to get through the first hour and build say a 50 run partnership in most innings then they will win. This would mean that Ballance is no longer exposed to the new ball, thus neither is Bell, this happens and they'll score 400+ most times.

The pace attack is good and set, 3 strike bowlers proven in English conditions and Stokes who is very handy as well. The weakness is Moeen Ali, but if we don't change our tactics to him then he'll continue to takes wickets. Just because the strategy of going after Swann worked last Ashes in Australia doesn't mean it will work again against Ali, it definitely didn't in the 1st innings with both Smith and Clarke giving away their wickets to stupid premeditated dances down the wicket that we down so early Ali could change his delivery and bring about their downfall.

Ballance has been dropped and Bairstow called up. Bairstow is killing it in first class cricket. Be interesting to see how he faces up to Johnson if MJ keeps his form.

can't help but think james taylor may not be far away. scored 291 in county cricket last game. hasn't done much else this season but it'd be pretty hard to ignore that kind of score should they lose the next test too

Fail to see how Ballance gets dropped for Bairstow yet Lyth continues to get picked, if there is ever a player who looks totally out of place in test cricket its Adam Lyth. He has 1 century, 6 total failures and a 37 in his career. I would rather Shane Watson!

Then there is Ding Dong, who has had a worse series than Ballance as well! Sure Ballance hasn't looked the greatest against good bowling, but * he still has a reasonable record and has at least had a good innings this series. Bell has 1 as well in the least pressured innings of the series but his form recently is disgraceful.

Never wanted that useless New South Welshmen as coach and it seems his job is to come in and sabotage England!

Root is like Ponting. Is very shaky early, and this is when you have to get him. Once he gets in it's very hard to get him out.
