EPL Matchday 32

Allen makes it 2-0, reacting quickest to volley in the knock down in the area. Been a pretty comfortable performance minus the few standard brainfarts from Lovren. Coutinho having yet another fine game.

Anfield crowd giving a standing ovation to Gutierrez as he comes on, his 2nd appearance after recovering from testicular cancer which metastasized and required extensive chemo. Great story.

Moussa Sissoko sent off for a 2nd yellow, no arguments from him. The resulting freekick is whipped in by Henderson straight on to Sterling's toes who somehow misses a 2nd tap in from 6 yards. He had a fantastic finish for the 1st goal but missed the easy ones, really should've have 2 or 3 tonight!

Edit: probably should've been a straight red in hindsight..

Pretty comfortable win in the end. Newcastle should've had a penalty in the 1st half (one of several decisions missed by Lee Mason) but rarely threatened aside from that. Liverpool in control for the vast majority of the game and if Sterling had his shooting boots on it might've been more comfortable.

Still, 3 points and a clean sheet is all we can ask for. It was important that we kept the pressure on a stuttering Man City going into the final 6 games and we've done just that.

MNF just showing some of Coutinho's touches, he is an absolute pleasure to watch. Another MOTM performance from the Brazilian.

Great stuff from the Anfield faithful! Believe that would actually be his 4th appearance since his recovery. Also, read somewhere it was his 200th club appearance for us. Great servant to the toon.

Sissoko will hopefully piss off in the summer. Clear as day he doesn't want to be there. When you are already missing senior players in Colo and Cisse from suspension, its just plain dumb for the stand in captain to get sent off. He barely broke a sweat in the derby too. Maybe just trying to keep fit for the upcoming shop window...

2-0. Better than I expected at least!

Pleased with that. Lovren was brainfarting a lot so we were lucky to keep a clean sheet. Newcastle should have had a pen in the first half. Sterling though should have had a hatty.

Coutinho is sexy as hell. Some of the stuff he was doing in that game was outrageous.

Happy to keep a clean sheet. Two wins on the bounce now. We've ramped up the pressure on City and we can look forward to a day out at Wembley and hopefully get into the FA Cup final!

Maybe Lovren gets the slightest of touches on the ball? Either way, when you're down and out, decisions like this normally go against you.

Would have been nice if Perez could have ended his goal drought.

It's funny how some of the most blatant penalties are missed like that, but the faint nudge or the grazing of someone's shoe laces tend to be picked up. We had one with Joe Allen (I think in the game against Blackburn last week?) where the defender went straight through the back of him and ended up basically sitting him. Didn't get anywhere near the ball, ref was perfectly positioned to call it and I can only assume that he was so shocked by how obvious it was that he swallowed the whistle.
