Essential Albums...

Hi guys, I'm looking to add to my music collection with some really groundbreaking/essential albums.

Please don't feel they have to be mainstream either.

I've got a fairly good spread of modern music already, so looking to expand the experience!

Any genre goes; as what point is there in expanding musical tastes if you limit it!?!

A couple that I'll throw up;

Jeff Buckley - Grace
Ramones - Ramones
The Velvet Underground and Nico - TVU
The Clash - London Calling

Would appreciate some help.

Ween - Chocolate and Cheese
Stooges - Fun House
Underground Lovers - Dream it Down.
Sonic Youth - Goo
Boris - Pink
Butthole Surfers - Locust Abortion Technician.

Get back to me when you have your head around those ones old mate.

Agree with Paul's Boutique and Physical Graffiti, amongst others.

Would add:

Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet
The Beatles - White Album
NIN - The Downward Spiral
Tool - Lateralus

The first for a lesson in what rap can be lyrically.
The second for a pop song writing lesson from the best songwriters in the business.
The last two for how to make a coherent album linked by an overarching theme while not forgetting to write individually brilliant songs

Van Morrison - Moondance
Supertramp - Breakfast in America
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
