Given the bans that the EU has handed out to Russian nationals as a punitive action against Russia, it is funny to see how they reacted. The list does seem arbitrary, but so is the EU one to a certain extent as well.

Putin's style towards the West has been to use their own strategies back at them. That way when they do start whinging they can't say much because they did it first, and nastier too generally. Think Kosovo vs crimea/Donbass Sanctions versus food import ban, targeted sanctions Tit for Tat. He is pretty ruthless and possibly even tyrannical but the arrogance of the US foreign policy to think that they can do whatever they want and not make dangerous enemies along the way is either incredibly naive or diabolically destructive.

There is an argument that the EU are intentionally trying to get the Greeks to default so as to serve a warning to others.

In theory if they leave the EURO then they get thrown out of the EU as well.

He is apparently worth around $80 mill, no big fish, he gives speeches for $100 000 a pop each, not much to see there.
