The Dutch can't even make the Euros with 24 teams qualifying (Scotland vs Netherlands anyone?)
A great time to be Belgan.

Congratulations to the following who have qualified:

Let's also have a warm Euro welcome to North Ireland, Iceland, Wales, Slovakia, and Albania for making their first ever Euros tourney!

In fact, just for those that claim that we'll have a weak Euro, I've even highlighted those that would've qualified if the Euros still had 16 places. Green is the autos, light green for those that qualified as the best 2nd placed teams, yellow for those in the playoffs, and red for those that are eliminated. So well done to both North Ireland and Iceland for securing qualification regardless of places!

Alright, what the current play off situation looks like for the last 4 spots:

The green teams will be drawn against one of the red teams as they will play off for one of the spots in a two legged tie.

If the draw was made after the qualifying round:

France will always be in Group A as the top seed (Italy miss out due to France being the hosts). There will be 6 groups of 4.

Note that none of these coefficients will change since coefficient points are earned only during tournaments and qualifying, not in the playoffs or in friendlies between Euro nations.

It should be noted that even if you get Italy in your group, the 4 best 3rd placed teams in the group will move on to the knockouts (come on, 16 out of 24, plenty of chances!)

That's how things stand.

Kompany reminded everyone after the match that at some stage he played in a side that was ranked 80th. Must have been 6-7 years ago or something.

No matter how inaccurate this FIFA ranking is and how clearly Belgium isn't the best team in the world, this is an extremely proud moment in our history. In '02 our best players played for Schalke, Marseille and Hertha Berlin. And from there it went downhill. Now we've got EPL players of the season and backup players who play for Dortmund, Valencia, Liverpool, Atletico and Spurs. The contrast is amazing.

And you know what, all of this is being done with a coach who thrives on camaraderie, enthusiasm and his players' individual class & physical strength. I think the best is yet to come if we can get a tactically capable coach in front of this group.

You forgot Albania who, along with Iceland, have qualified for their first major tournament finishing ahead of Denmark. As always though, a great read.

24 teams is too many for the euros. UEFA has 53 members of which about 15-20 have useless national teams.

Now far too easy for average teams to qualify.

(Unless you're Scottish )

That leaves 33 teams by my Maths that are half-decent and should have a shot at playing in a comp.

Look at how excited Wales are. It's great for those mid-tier nations.
