Ben.

Seriously though, I would think neither Doran or McDermott have been recruited as keepers. They've got the worst batting line up in the shield and gone out to try and improve it.
McDermott is a good keeper. I'd have him keep ahead of Paine personally.

Is he good enough?

Looking at our options at the moment I would suggest he is, we've got a shocking batting line up as it is. If we went with six bats and a 'keeper, you could line up something like this -

Silk
Paine/Dunk
Doolan*
Bailey/Webster
Doran
Webster/Dunk
McDermott+

At this stage, we don't even have the options to consider depth options. We realistically have 4/5 locks, and that's with praying that Bailey and Doolan won't tour internationally.

Dunk is only just 28, big call to say his first class career is over

I think both will be with someone next year
28 with a mediocre record in FC cricket and not particularly good as a keeper either.

well he's not really good enough with the gloves to hold a spot in a shield side as a keeper and his batting is very overrated.

60 metre leg side heaves get you double centuries at North Sydney but don't do too much anywhere else.

I think Dunk will play a few games here and there but won't make the grade.

Agree with both of you, What i was saying is i think he will have a contract somewhere next year. I don't expect him to be in Tasmania's first 11 at 4 day level.

I know he's had a lot of time, but I'm surprised they didn't keep Wells. Looked to have finally broken through last summer.

Didn't see anywhere else to post this.

Australia under 19's are playing England under 19's again today. Australia all out for 219 with Doran (82) the only batsman making over 30 for the Aussies

Not going to get a game back in his home state Victoria ahead of Ahmed and Holland you'd think - good T20 bowler still, but hey at least he has a baggygreen!

Beer, Simmonds, J.Rogers, Duffield not offered contracts for WACA.

Didn't even know Simmons held a State Contract. lol.

Just couldn't stand watching Rogers. Saw him in a few Shield matches early on but his Ryobi Campaign in 2013 was shocking, though to be fair I'm not sure if he's a natural No. 3.

Wasn't Duffield meant to be the next best thing?

Not happy with (most) of those changes.

Beer is a good spinner and would have kept him just in case Agar is called up to national duty at some point in the next few years. I guess Beer may not have been willing to stay here as a 2nd in command. A good bowler who should get plucked by another state.

Duffield has a decent FC record and bowls with pace and aggression. I would have kept him as bowling depth. Should get picked up as well.

Simmons should have been retained to play in the Ryobi...if he doesn't move, perhaps he still may?

Rogers was a good call, he's a terrible player.

I think the states have realised that most keepers in this country are very good batsmen.
It sort of is the new trend over the past 3-5 years to play a keeper as a specialist bat, and Australia probably should have done it with Nevill or Wade over the past year or so.

There is a big chance they might do it in the Windies or the Ashes though, heres hoping.

Simmonds never held a state contract at the start of the season, but due to playing x amount of ODD games he was automatically upgraded. If it's a tournament style format next season the same thing will probably happen again.

You would think he would be happy enough to be depth considering he didn't play a shield game and only one 50 over game?

I agree with you, I would have kept him as insurance
