That's a very unexpected favourite album and top 5 songs. Not saying you're wrong or anything because it is an opinion thread, just that picking those three from Americana, and not picking anything from Conspiracy of One or Rise and Fall. Just unexpected.

Not a huge fan of Rise and Fall, was thinking maybe Dammit I Changed Again or Million Miles Away but Americana is one of the first albums I ever bought so it has that nostalgia quality to it I guess. They're all pretty even in my eyes anyways.

What? Are you telling me that The Who are a bad band? o_O

There are poor tracks on all of their albums. Which ones are so bad on Black Ice? Very underrated IMO.

For mine Black Ice, Back in Black and Let There Be Rock are ACDC's top three. At the time I did the list I just decided Black Ice was the best so it could have gone either way.

The Rolling Stones

I hate the attitude of "If you like a bands popular songs you're not a real fan". Ever stopped to consider there's a reason they're popular?

Actually I have all their albums.

Same for me, but for The Who. I think he's just in the mindset that 'hits are too mainstream'.

There's a reason why the songs I chose were hits: because they were bloody good songs and a lot of people bought the singles.

EDIT:

Whoa. Eerily similar posts only minutes apart.

Come on fellas, someone had to get some discussion going in here. Forgive me if I was brash.

What? Are you telling me that The Who are a bad band? o_O

Quite the opposite, they are incredible. Your song selection struck me as the kind of stuff that gets radio play, that's all.

Actually I have all their albums.

Sweet. Favourite album cuts? I hate Angie, and GOOMC was a terrible choice as their opening song on their tour this year. I'll give you Beast of Burden though, beautiful song, probably the best song Keith ever wrote after Gimme Shelter.

Songs like Big Jack, Anything Goes, Wheels, Spoilin' for the Fight are just embarrassing IMO. I didn't know it was possible for Angus and Mal to write even worse lyrics than what as on the previous two albums (normally I wouldn't care, but the production and vocals are too polished to get away with s**t lyrics). It's a shame because stuff like Stormy May Day, Money Made, Rocking All the Way, and the title track are the best they've done in decades. SMD and MM are in their top 10 IMO.

Their best albums IMO are Powerage, For Those About to Rock, and Flick of the Switch. If I had to pick five songs they'd be: Sin City, Night Prowler, Shoot to Thrill, Evil Walks, Nervous Shakedown.

The Who doesn't get a whole lot radio play down here in Tassie.
There's about three radio stations: Triple J and two others that only plays songs created in the last 10 minutes. ;)

I can understand your view that they're probably very generic The Who songs to chose, though.

I disagree with your assessments of those songs. I rate albums by listenability rather than number of good songs anyway, for example Houses of the Holy is my number one Led Zeppelin album because from start to finish IMO it is their best listening album. However, I didn't put any tracks from that album in my top five Zeppelin songs. It's a similar deal with Black Ice which I really enjoy from start to finish. The title track, Black Ice, only just snuck into my top five though.
