The Friday night game is interesting. It's usually one of the QF's to kick off the finals, however with the top 4 all playing on Saturday in round 23, it's unlikely the AFL would send Hawthorn or Sydney to Perth on a Friday night off a 6 day break, right?

So North versus either Richmond (who both play on the Fri night in round 23) or Bulldogs (who play Lions at Gabba on Sat night in round 23) seems the likely scenario for the Friday night.

they will probably have to play a qf friday, they arent going to have 2 games in perth on the 1 day, and i cant see them playing one sunday

If it was a non-Vic team, the AFL would send them to Victoria with a 6 day break. Nothing different here.

Also if both QFs are in perth, they can't play both on Saturday. And a Sunday QF would be inherently unfair.

So QF should be Friday and Saturday as normal

They have to play the QF's on the Friday night and Sat day, so those in the top 4 get the longer break leading into the SFs.

So looks like it will be

Fremantle vs. Sydney (QF)
West Coast vs. Hawthorn (QF)
Bulldogs vs. North (EF)
Richmond vs. Adelaide (EF)

I always thought it had to be 2nd play Friday so that in the cross overs 1st got Friday prelim weekend. Giving them the longer break before GF

Yeah that's what makes sense, although some years they've played 1 v 4 on Friday.

In 2012 west coast played a Friday night semi off a 5 day break against the pies off 7 days. Hopefully those days are behind the afl.

It was 6 and 8 days not 5 and 7.

With Round 22 almost done I will be very surprised if the top 4 is anything but

Fremantle vs Sydney - Subiaco
West Coast vs Hawthorn - Subiaco

The only real question, and real possibility of a change there is West Coast and Hawthorn swapping positions and then it will be played at the MCG. Even that scenario is unlikely.

North are a bogey time for the Tigers, plus it's at Etihad. Reckon it'll be Dockers/Swans, Eagles/Hawks, Crows/Tigers and Dogs/North in week 1. Cats could roll the Crows and send off some champs next week, too, potentially creating a Tigers/Dogs vs. Crows EF at the MCG.

This. Same every year isn't it?

Last year Hawks were f'd over because the AFL force us to play finals at stadium Australia. Rugby League had the ground booked for the time the AFL required us to play and they (the AFL) refused to let us use the SCG. From 2017 we will only play at the SCG :)
