Who is leading the race to lead the Lions next year? Would have to be the most appealing job going in the GDFL by a mile. As the Belmont statement said they already have a great young list who work well together as a team. Probably just need someone with a little bit more tactical nous plus a tough inside mid to feed the runners.
 
As a first timer on this sort of forum, find some of the conversations interesting and hilarious! Would love to know who is who and which teams they actually follow! Does anyone wish to say if they actually played footy in this league, and if so, for who and when and how many games. Seems to be a lot of experts out there with opinions on anyone and everyone!

BELMONT LIONS SPORTS CLUB – SENIOR FOOTBALL COACH 2016

The pride of the GDFL, established in 1965 is seeking applications (playing – non playing) for the Senior Coaching role for 2016 and beyond. With a strong playing list, a successful junior program, great facilities and a healthy club culture this is a great opportunity. With both the seniors and reserves playing finals this year you will have a great base to work with. You will also receive the full support and guidance of the committee and be remunerated accordingly.

You will need to demonstrate the following:

- The ability to understand, embrace and develop the culture of the football club and to develop and implement a style of play and team plan.

- Exceptional communication skills both on and off the field.

- Strong emphasis on player development, especially with junior players.

- Bring a fresh, energetic and positive attitude along with being organised and structured.

A minimum of Level 1 AFL coaching accreditation is required.

Also seeking applications for Colts, 16s, 14s, 12s, 10s.

If you are interested in these positions, please provide a covering letter with your application to President Scott Fort by Friday 16th of October at scott.fort@westpointford.com.au

Not the greatest time to sack a coach. Belmont would be 2 months behind the other GDFL clubs looking for a coach.

East Geelong had Sam stavenuiter high on their list but Sam took the lorne coaching position.

David, you should pull your head in when it comes to Belmont, always negative, either concentrate on whoever you do follow or put in for the job yourself?

David McKiernan made his decision in the best interests of himself, his job, his family, the club and the players at Belmont.
 
As with all scenarios like the Belmont one, it is in both the club and the coaches best interest to word the departure that way. A coach would never want to be sacked for his own future coaching interests, nor would the club publicly come out and say they have sacked someone and further hinder their chance at securing a coach for the future! This way all parties involved can move forward with little or no ramifications.

My source said that Belmont don't have anywhere near 25 applications just like banno didn't have 28 applications for the coaching position.

Oh hello David, your f...ing lucky you deleted your last post, don't worry I saw it but didn't bother to waste any time replying.

You have NO source so don't comment on anything to do with Belmont just because you don't like the club, your obviously a past disgruntled player or sponsor or someone at Belmont has pissed you off.

We have not had 25 applicants Voice, but have had alot with Friday 16th closing date - and some of them are pretty exciting high quality people, having said that I think with the rotating draw we cop North, Werribbee, BPH and Inverleigh in the first 4 rounds .......... so might need Mick Malthouse.

Punchy all Belmont did this season was talk themselves up from pre season to finals time and they made a elimination final that they should have won.

Belmont sacked the coach TRUE. Belmont don't have 25+ applications TRUE.

Not many good football coaches spend time applying for coaching positions they are head hunted by clubs.

Interesting to see on today's Geelong Advertiser website that the points and salary caps have been set for all 3 leagues.
All leagues capped at 40 points per team and the salary caps as:

GFL $150k
BFL $100k
GDFL $ 70k

Would imagine it will be hard to monitor and govern the salary cap given players are paid in cash and at times "under the table".

Will make it even harder for clubs with little or no junior system to make inroads on the rest of the competitions, as teams already have to pay over and above what market value is for players.

GDFL is actually 80k.
It wouldnt be too hard to monitor but it would be very reactive. Each club reports on player payments/financial situation at their AGM and AFL barwon would simply need to get an independent auditor such as PWC to go over the books if needed and any anomalies would soon be uncovered.
....unless a player receives cash directly from a sponsor and not the club itself.
I'm sure they'll have measures in place to tackle the issue.

How stupid are the GDFL executive AFL Barwon got what they wanted, how they excepted a less salary cap than the BFL is crazy. How will the league ever compete with the Bellarine, 20k more is a lot of money. The 3divisons may not be in name but certainly is in principle
