Geelong post a $3 million loss

Would Geelong fans be happy with 9 KP games then when you play Collingwood & Hawthorn it is at the MCG? Or would you prefer 11 KP games? Just curious, because wouldn't the players want play on the MCG for the big dance (if you make it of course)

Almost as funny as the three club presidents who joined the AFL on their "fact finding mission" to the US on revenue sharing suddenly being the three clubs that got a cap on the amount of funds they give up
You make it sound like they engineered a special deal for their clubs only, as opposed to being the three clubs who contribute the most towards the equalisation fund and have rightfully put a cap on the total amount that any club can be taxed.

I can't believe that anyone would whinge about that and keep a straight face. Why should any club have to pay an equalisation tax? The whole thing is a goddamned rort. My club is in competition with 17 others. Why should we be penalised for our success? Why should we be directly responsible for propping up the paupers with an "equalisation tax" ?

My club has been the best in the AFL at maximising their supporter to member ratio and maximising their their corporate sponsorship. We've planned for the future and managed our affairs better than other clubs with equal (or bigger) fanbases. Everyone laughed at us when we announced our 4 game Tassie sponsorship, but now our jealous rivals whinge about it. We're now being penalised for our good management by the AFL. Yeah, that seems fair… That's great incentive for clubs to show initiative and succeed without any help from the AFL.

None of our rivals helped us out back in 1996 when we were millions of dollars in debt and being railroaded by the AFL into a merger/takeover by Melbourne. We helped ourselves. We didn't stick our hands out and beg from anyone else.

Seems Geelong are getting Etihad games to compensate for other sides trying to get out. I don't blame the clubs though. Their contracts expire and they are entitled to look for a better deal but the AFL have locked themselves into such a high amount of games there, they refuse to ratify any further attempt to give up Etihad games. They could maybe promise to give more high drawing away teams to Etihad but they won't.

Teams like North, Dogs and Saints are trapped at Etihad even if they want to leave so any ground related equalisation funds shouldn't be waved in their faces. Of course this doesn't mean the G wants new tenants either. Problem of reducing 9 teams into 2 stadiums.
See this is why it gets annoying. We're expected to help pick up the slack of other clubs wanting to better themselves financially to our detriment, which the afl must surely realise it robbing Peter to pay Paul, I digress, we pick up the slack at a financial hit to our bottom line, despite not even being a Melbourne club and then at the end of the year "oh now we need your equalisation tax thanks!"

The afl signing this Etihad deal is proof enough that chimps could run this game more professionally. So amateurish this league in many ways.

Don't forget Peter Gordon attended. He was the token poor club rep and was probably grateful for their scraps so yeah no surprises this tax favours the pies and Hawks most. Amateurish this league.

Geelong will never play 11 home games at KP. I heard Cook speak at an MCC function recently, he said it would limit the size of his club if they did so.

He said it's imperative that they play 2/3 home games in Melbourne as an increasing number of the membership base is from Melbourne or has moved to Melbourne for employment.

If your supporters don't go it's because your supporters don't give a stuff and are lightweights. It's two suburbs over. Not a whole city away. For a geelong fan its a whole day outing to go to the football in Melbourne.

its 40 minutes to an hour away
Not all melbourne supporters live in the CBD, so yeah its still a journey for them to get there

So its 40 mins to an hour versus 50 mins to an hour and 10. And this is asuming all Melbourne supporters live on the east side, which they dont. A 10 minute difference doesnt change things like and extra 70 minutes does.

Hmm credible if it wasn't said at an MCC function.

You're assuming all our fans live in Geelong. Many are down the surfcoast which extends that travel time past the 1 hour (each way). Doesn't seem worth it for a "home" game.

Renovating a stadium atm

They needed the upgrade. The biggest game was the Qualifying Final vs Freo. Lyon is having his presser in a toilet block. Listen to 1:23 into the video. This is also the presser where Lyon gives it to the "Quite Brilliant Shane".:thumbsu:

So they can get to the MCG but can't get to Eddiehad. It's around 4kms away from the MCG.

Its not about Melbourne though and Im done arguing with you guys because clearly Geelong has it tougher than everyone else

All the other sides who lose home games , well you know * them because they arent geelong

You cant win because moving a game two suburbs over is a hell of a lot different to moving it to a different city. A fact you keep ignoring.

Geelong is the only side lucky enough to get a home stadium in Victoria, all other clubs supporters travel from all over the state
Deal with it

People don't travel to Ethiad because the MCG is a better stadium, is easier to get to, has a better precinct around it and the access points are far easier.

I'd be happy with 9 and 2, not sure it should always be the Hawks as the second though.

But from a team success perspective 11 at KP for sure. That will be limiting if club memberships continue to grow across the league though.

Anyone know how many Cats fans live in Greater Melbourne?

Can you please explain how Collngwood and Hawthorn are "favoured" by paying the MOST TAX ?

That's the most insane thing I've ever heard…

The only "amateurish" thing about this league is that we have half a dozen clubs who are living hand-to-mouth. If you want to point the finger at anyone, then blame the AFL. They're the ones who are raking in billions; doling out the scraps to the shareholder clubs; playing their usual game of "divide and conquer" and wasting millions on their northern franchises.

Don't point the finger at the AFL's two best-run Victorian clubs who can stand on their own two feet and make their own money.

To be fair given what Ross talks most of the time it was the ideal place for him to do a presser
